Today I greet the architecture and design community of Hive! with great excitement, because I didn't think there was such a beautiful and special place close to home. This catholic church that I visited on Holy Tuesday is located a few blocks from my home and quickly placed in my top 3 of the most beautiful catholic churches in the city of Caracas. It is the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, located in La Hoyada, being part of the many temples that are in the center, a place where I have passed by several times, but where I had never dared to enter. I also share above a video for you to appreciate a little more of its facilities.
Hoy saludo con mucha emoción a la comunidad de la arquitectura y el diseño de Hive!, y es que no pensé que había un lugar tan hermoso y especial cerca de casa. Esta iglesia católica que visité el Martes Santo se encuentra a unas cuadras de mi hogar y rápidamente se colocó en mi top 3 de templos católicos más hermosos en la ciudad de Caracas. Se trata de la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, ubicada en La Hoyada, siendo parte de los muchos templos que se encuentran en el centro, un lugar por el cual he pasado varias veces a su lado, pero donde nunca me había atrevido a entrar. Its façade had never caught my attention before. It did seem strange to see a church in such a strange location, next to a busy avenue, in one of the most disturbing areas of downtown, especially for informal trade and in conjunction with high government buildings and businesses that sell clothes at very cheap prices. It is not a normal church in front of a striking square, and as soon as I entered I discovered the magic and elegance of the baroque style in every corner of this place, in fact there were musicians playing the most beautiful melodies you can imagine. I felt the power of this imposing place from the moment I entered and I had to sit for a while to enjoy every detail.
Su fachada nunca me había llamado la atención. Vaya que sí me parecía extraño ver una iglesia en una ubicación tan extraña, al lado de una avenida muy concurrida, en una de las zonas más desquiciantes del centro de la ciudad, especialmente por el comercio informal y en conjunto con altos edificios del gobierno y negocios que venden ropa a precios muy económicos. No es una iglesia normal frente a una llamativa plaza, y a penas entré descubrí la magia y la elegancia del estilo barroco en cada rincón de este lugar, de hecho habían músicos tocando las melodías más hermosas que te puedes imaginar. Sentí el poder de este imponente lugar desde el instante en que entré y tuve que sentarme un rato a disfrutar de cada detalle.
There are many aspects to highlight here, starting with the colors. The church has white walls and ceiling but its columns and window frames are painted in gold, one of my favorite combinations. The floor is pure magic, the ceramics are earth-colored and in the shape of crosses that run through all the aisles in an orderly fashion. The seats to sit are very dark, a wood color almost reaching the wine and the lamps on top are numerous, with small candle-shaped bulbs that illuminate upwards, the only bad thing is the central white bulb, it is very vulgar and not worthy of such beauty, but it is what it is for the moment...
Hay muchos aspectos que destacar aquí, comenzando con los colores. La iglesia es de paredes y techo blanco pero sus columnas y los marcos de las ventanas están pintados en color dorado, una de mis combinaciones preferidas. El suelo es magia pura, las cerámicas sonde colores tierras y con formas de cruces que recorren todos los pasillos ordenadamente. Los asientos para sentarse son muy oscuros, un color madera casi llegando al vino y las lámparas en lo alto son numerosas, con pequeños bombillos en forma de vela que alumbran hacia arriba, lo único malo es el bombillo blanco central, es muy vulgar y no es digno de tanta belleza, pero es lo que hay por el momento...
The colorful glass windows with religious images are one of the most special attractions of this catholic church. As you can see in the pictures, in the left aisle they look a little dark, because as I said before there is a government building next door and does not allow light to enter through the glass, but on the right side, and especially in the evening hours the effect of sunlight on the images is a delight. Another aspect to highlight is the altar, just like the name of this church, in the center is the heart of Jesus and behind it an image of the resurrected Jesus, it does not focus on the Jesus on the cross that we usually see in churches, it is something very distinctive, besides having other sculptures at the back of the altar in white color that are illuminated with lights within the same spaces, it is pure architectural magic and a pleasure for the eyes..
Las coloridas ventanas de vidrio con imágenes religiosas son uno d elos atractivos más especiales de este iglesia católica. Como pueden ver en las fotografías, en el pasillo izquierdo se ven un poco oscuras, ya que como dije antes hay un edificio del gobierno al lado y no permite que entre la luz a través del vidrio, pero del lado derecho, y especialmente en horas del atardecer el efecto de luz solar sobre las imágenes es una delicia. Otro aspecto a destacar es el altar, tal como el nombre de esta iglesia, en todo el centro está el corazón de Jesús y detrás de el una imagen de Jesús resucitado, no se enfoca en el Jesús en la cruz que generalmente apreciamos en las iglesias, es algo muy distintivo, además de tener otras esculturas al fondo del altar en color blanco que son alumbradas con luces dentro de los mismos espacios, es magia pura arquitectónica y un placer para los ojos...
Without a doubt I am happy to have known this place. The first time I went alone, but a couple of days later, on Good Friday I returned with my wife, she could not miss this show, and neither could you.
