Blessed day my reader friends, I hope this week that is just beginning is of blessing and productivity for all. In this publication I want to share with you a walk to one of my favorite places in the city of Lima. It is the Plaza Mayor or Plaza de Armas as it is better known. In my opinion, this is a magical place, as it takes us to another era. I am passionate about all the architecture and ancient art, I am delighted to visit this place.
For someone who is visiting the city, the Plaza de Armas and the entire historic center are a must-see. Since my mother was visiting Lima, we could not miss the opportunity to take her on a walk to this wonderful place. We decided to go for a walk as a family, throughout the historic center of the city and as a final stop we visited the Plaza de Armas.
Our tour started at the Plaza San Martin, a very busy place for locals and tourists. We could see many people that day in the square, in the afternoon there was a large crowd because they were there to start a protest, so we had to leave the place. This square is surrounded by imposing buildings, with varied architectural styles but the vast majority, dating from the time of the viceroyalty of Spain in Lima.
En una de esas calles se encuentran los restaurantes, heladerías y franquicias de comida, donde puedes degustar platos nacionales e internacionales, así como helados artesanales con sabores de las frutas propias de la región.
Then we continued walking through the busiest streets of the whole center, the place where you can find stores where you can buy souvenirs of your visit to Peru. As well as clothing and footwear stores. In this area abounded artists and artisans, including tattoo artists who were very visited by tourists.
In one of these streets you can find restaurants, ice cream parlors and food franchises, where you can taste national and international dishes, as well as homemade ice cream with flavors of the fruits of the region.
The stores maintain their facades in the classic style, taking care and preserving all the historical heritage that these buildings represent for the city. What I admire most about these old houses and buildings are the beautiful and inspiring balconies, there are in various styles and architectural designs. I couldn't help but take pictures of some of them. The pictures are not very well taken because there were a lot of people and we had to move fast due to the riots in San Martin square.
After a pleasant walk and some delicious ice cream, we finally arrived at our point of arrival: the Plaza Mayor. This time the access was closed, but it was possible to access through a beautiful old carriage pulled by a strong and serene horse. This ride was quite an experience, just like traveling back in time to the independence era.
Around the Plaza Mayor are several important and significant buildings of Lima's history. Among these buildings is the Cathedral of Lima. The Cathedral of Lima is one of the oldest buildings in the city. In one of my publications for the architectural community, I expose in more detail this piece of colonial times. Read it here
For my mother it was a nice experience to know these incredible places in the company of her daughters and granddaughters, it was a very nice afternoon for everyone. For me it has been a pleasure to share with you a little of this trip to the Plaza de Armas in Lima. Thank you for reading, greetings and blessings.
