Good morning to all my friends of this Architecture & Design community, wishing you all a good day. Today I want to show you a place that, although its best treasure is the use it is given for the spectacular collections of paintings and sculptures it has, it still has an interesting design and architecture The National Museum of Fine Arts. This has been a recurring place for me, I like to walk through its rooms and enjoy everything in it, this time I made this tour accompanied by my son and his girlfriend, we had a special day.
This museum occupies a whole block and has three floors, the main entrance is on Trocado Street between Agramonte Street and Bélgica Avenue, in front of the Granma Memorial, in one of the most central areas of Havana, a few blocks from the Capitol.
Buenos días a todos mis amigos de esta comunidad de Arquitectura & Diseño, deseándoles a todos un buen día. Hoy quiero mostrarles un lugar que, aunque su mejor tesoro es el uso que se le da por las espectaculares colecciones de pinturas y esculturas que tiene, no deja de tener un interesante diseño y arquitectura El Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. Este ha sido un lugar recurrente para mí, me gusta recorrer sus salas y disfrutar de todo lo que hay en él, esta vez hice este recorrido acompañado de mi hijo y su novia, tuvimos un día especial.
El museo ocupa toda una manzana y tiene tres plantas, la entrada principal está en la calle Trocado entre la calle Agramonte y la avenida Bélgica, frente al Memorial Granma, en una de las zonas más céntricas de La Habana, a pocas cuadras del Capitolio.
This place has an imposing structure and despite being surrounded by beautiful old buildings with great style and having a much more modern design, it stands out at sight for its elegance, it has large side walls and the center of the entrance lined with marble, others of Jaimanite stone and many glass panels that when you are inside and walk through the corridors you can not help but see the streets of Havana, however, when you are outside you only see mirrors.
As I was able to research in the pages I point out at the end of the publication, it was designed by architect Alfonso Rodriguez Pichardo in 1950 and was inaugurated in 1954. In its design he took into account the placement of movable panels in the interior to be able to adapt the spaces according to the different exhibitions. Also as you will observe in the tour the building in spite of being more modern of the architecture of the locality in which it is located some elements of the colonial architecture were maintained as it is the central patio and the high props, as it is detailed in the bibliography, but that in addition I could appreciate.
Este lugar tiene una estructura imponente y a pesar de estar rodeado de hermosos edificios antiguos con gran estilo y tener un diseño mucho más moderno, resalta a la vista por su elegancia, tiene grandes paredes laterales y el centro de la entrada forrado de mármol, otras de piedra jaimanita y muchos paneles de cristal que cuando estás dentro de él y caminas por los pasillos no puedes dejar de ver las calles de La Habana, sin embargo, cuando estás afuera solo ves espejos.
Según pude investigar en las páginas que señalo al final de la publicación, fue diseñado por el arquitecto Alfonso Rodríguez Pichardo en 1950 y fue inaugurado en 1954. En su diseño tuvo en cuenta la colocación de paneles móviles en el interior para poder adaptar los espacios según las diferentes exposiciones. También como observarás en el recorrido el edificio a pesar de ser más moderno de la arquitectura de la localidad en la que se encuentra se mantuvieron algunos elementos de la arquitectura colonial como es el patio central y los puntales altos, segun se detalla en la bibliografia , pero que ademas pude apreciar.
At the entrance there is a small staircase of 6 steps covered with cobblestone as the entire exterior of the museum, there is an aluminum railing in the center of the short but wide staircase, the walls are high and the entire center of the entrance where the main door is covered with mirror effect glass panels, on both sides there is an arch veneered in Jaimanite stone giving that colonial touch to the design. Above the entrance door, at the foot of the staircase, as well as on the side walls there are sculptures that I was able to document in my research that correspond to Cuban artists, including Rita Longa (the two in front), Mateo Torriente, Juan José Sicre, Eugenio Rodríguez.
En la entrada hay una pequeña escalinata de 6 peldaños revestida de adoquín como todo el exterior del museo, hay una barandilla de aluminio en el centro de la corta pero amplia escalera, las paredes son altas y todo el centro de la entrada donde está la puerta principal está revestido con paneles de vidrio efecto espejo, a ambos lados hay un arco enchapado en piedra jaimanita dando ese toque colonial al diseño. Sobre la puerta de entrada, al pie de la escalera, así como en las paredes laterales hay esculturas que pude documentar en mi investigación que corresponden a artistas cubanos, entre ellas Rita Longa (las dos de enfrente), Mateo Torriente, Juan José Sicre, Eugenio Rodríguez.
As we passed the entrance we found ourselves in the reception of the museum, when we turned around we could appreciate a large mural over the glass entrance with great color, made of small mosaics, it is really very beautiful. In different marble walls you can see different works on them, they were placing a piece in the center of the reception, but they had not finished, there was still scaffolding.
Al pasar la entrada nos encontramos en la recepción del museo, al voltear pudimos apreciar un gran mural sobre la entrada de cristal con gran colorido, hecho de pequeños mosaicos, es realmente muy hermoso. En diferentes paredes de mármol se pueden ver diferentes obras en ellas, estaban colocando una pieza en el centro de la recepción, pero no habían terminado, todavía había andamios.
We continue through a side corridor from which you can see the large central courtyard, in which there are different sculptures, this can be seen throughout the museum. From the courtyard you can see the different floors of the museum and maintains the same design as the exterior, large glass panels with mirror effect and walls veneered in jaimanite stone. From the central courtyard you can see that the interior walls of the third floor have a stone relief work that embellishes and enhances the design. In the courtyard there are two small round tanks connected by a ditch, in one there is only water and in the other there are plants and a sculpture. In the center there is a path that crosses the courtyard.
Continuamos por un pasillo lateral desde el que se ve el gran patio central, en el que hay diferentes esculturas, esto se puede apreciar en todo el museo. Desde el patio se pueden ver las diferentes plantas del museo y mantiene el mismo diseño que el exterior, grandes paneles de cristal con efecto espejo y paredes enchapadas en piedra jaimanita. Desde el patio central se puede ver que las paredes interiores de la tercera planta tienen un trabajo de relieve en piedra que embellece y realza el diseño. En el patio hay dos pequeños tanques redondos conectados por una zanja, en uno sólo hay agua y en el otro hay plantas y una escultura. En el centro hay un camino que atraviesa el patio.
All around the central courtyard are corridors lined with columns leading to a zigzagging side ramp that leads to the third floor of the building to start visiting the exhibition rooms and down the stairs to return to the second floor. The building is very solid, with large square concrete columns and mostly white walls and mirror effect glass inside. The edges of the ramp are made of marble and the floors of flagstones, it has a very elegant look.
Alrededor de todo el patio central hay pasillos bordeados de columnas que conducen a una rampa lateral zigzagueante que lleva a la tercera planta del edificio para empezar a visitar las salas de exposición y bajar las escaleras para volver a la primera planta. El edificio es muy sólido, con grandes columnas cuadradas de hormigón y en su interior paredes principalmente blancas y cristales con efecto espejos. Los bordes de la rampa son de mármol y los suelos de losas, tiene un aspecto muy elegante.
The painting exhibitions are divided into large adjoining rooms according to the different artists, have very good lighting in most of the rooms, as well as the air conditioning system, something that is much appreciated by the high temperatures of these summer months.
All the exhibited works have attached the information of the painter or sculptor, the name of the work and the year it was made, it is really very well organized, at the entrances of each room there is a card of the artists of the room, being so large and containing so many rooms there are everywhere polished wooden benches for visitors to sit and take a break. It is a very quiet environment, where each visitor is immersed in the world of Cuban art from antiquity to contemporary, therefore, is quite quiet, all rooms have specialists and guards, you can arrange guided tours or free which was what we did, but if any doubt arises or any explanation is required specialists in each room, explain without problems.
Las exposiciones de pintura están divididas por grandes salas contiguas en función de los diferentes artistas, tienen muy buena iluminación en la mayoría de las salas, así como el sistema de climatización, algo que se agradece mucho por las altas temperaturas de estos meses de verano.
Todas las obras expuestas tienen adjunta la información del pintor o escultor, el nombre de la obra y el año en que fue realizada, está realmente muy bien organizado, en las entradas de cada sala hay una ficha de los artistas de la sala, al ser tan grande y contener tantas salas hay por todas partes bancos de madera pulida para que los visitantes se sienten y tomen un descanso. Es un ambiente muy tranquilo, donde cada visitante se sumerge en el mundo de las arte de cubanas desde la antiguedad hasta la contemporánea, por lo tanto, es bastante silencioso, todas las salas tienen especialistas y guardias, se pueden concertar visitas guiadas o libres que fue lo que hicimos, pero si surge alguna duda o se requiere alguna explicación los especialistas de cada sala, explican sin problemas.
Most of the walls of the rooms are painted white, but so that there is no monotony, the columns, some entrances and panels are painted in bright colors adding beauty to the place, but believe me it is a place to visit if you want to appreciate good Cuban art.
La mayoría de las paredes de las salas están pintadas de blanco, pero para que no haya monotonía, las columnas, algunas entradas y paneles están pintados en colores vivos añadiendo belleza al lugar, pero créanme que es un lugar para visitar si quieren apreciar el buen arte cubano.
On the sides are the stairs by which you descend to the same floor surrounded by metal railings and glass panels from where you can see the streets.
En los laterales se encuentran las escaleras por las que se desciende al mismo piso rodeado de barandillas metálicas y paneles de cristal desde donde se pueden ver las calles.
The second floor has a very nice foyer in which are displayed transparent quadrants full of dried leaves of different autochthonous plants and a national coat of arms made with dried tree branches, and on both sides there are large exhibition rooms. On this floor there is also a Didactic Room where they explained to us that there were workshops for children, where some of their drawings are exhibited, I found the connection with the children very nice. There is also a room of artists exponents of Cuban folklore.
La segunda planta tiene un vestíbulo muy bonito en el cual se exponen unos cuadrantes transparentes llenos de hojas de plantas secas de diferentes plantas autoctonas y un escudo nacional hecho con ramas de árboles secas y a ambos lados hay grandes salas de exposición. En esta planta tambien hay una Sala Didáctica donde nos explicaron que había talleres para niños, en la misma se exponen algunos de sus dibujos, me pareció muy bonita la conexión con los niños. También hay una sala de artistas exponentes del folclore cubano.
Arriving back to the second floor just next to the stairs there is a cafeteria where they sell fast food, in which we sat down to have a snack, the place is really inviting, it is open and simple, but very clean, it has a good service. The tables and chairs are simple wooden and are arranged in three rows. They have a row of lamps in the center, although they were not necessary because the place is very well lit, at least at that time of the day, with alternating ceiling fans because this floor has no air conditioning, but it felt very cool, the ceiling has some quadrants that give the idea of being suspended. To the left of the cafeteria are the windows facing outside and to the right a row of columns facing the large central courtyard.
Llegando de nuevo a la primera planta justo al lado de la escalera hay una cafetería donde venden comida rápida, en la cual nos sentamos a tomar un refrigerio, realmente el lugar invita, es abierto y sencillo, pero muy limpio, tiene un buen servicio. Las mesas y sillas son sencillas de madera y están dispuestas en tres filas. Tienen una hilera de lámparas al centro, aunque no eran necesarias porque el lugar está muy iluminado, al menos a esa hora del día, con ventiladores de techo alternados porque esta planta no tiene aire acondicionado, pero se sentía muy fresco, el techo tiene unos cuadrantes que dan la idea de estar suspendidos. A la izquierda de la cafetería están los ventanales que dan al exterior y a la derecha una fila de columnas que dan al gran patio central.
