My wife's parents, Octavia Maita and Luis Beltrán Jiménez, are from the eastern Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mrs. Octavia from Barcelona, Anzoátegui State and Mr. Luis de San Antonio de Capayacuar, Monagas State. As good Orientals, they baptized my wife with the name of Mercedes del Valle in honor of the Virgin of the same name, patron saint of eastern Venezuela. The Virgin of the Valley, also known as Our Lady of the Valley of the Holy Spirit or affectionately Vallita, is an invocation of the Virgin Mary originated in the State of Nueva Esparta, on the Island of Margarita, Venezuela. When Mercedes and I got engaged, I told her that I did not know Margarita Island, she promised me that one day we would go together to visit the sanctuary of the patron saint of all eastern Venezuela, the Virgin of her devotion, the Virgin. from the valley. At the time, the first thing we did was keep the promise. I confess that I loved the place, a place of prayer and recollection, which is filled with parishioners every September 8, the date on which its patronal feast is celebrated. Note: This temple was originally a small church, several times it has been modified and even restored, one of them, coordinated by Father Phelipe Martínez, was in 1733 and since February 1925 it has the style that looks Neo-Gothic that can be see today. It was declared a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
It is a small temple framed in a Neo-Gothic style, whose floor plan in the shape of a Latin Cross ends in two small ones. It has a main access framed on each side by projections, its towers are made up of four bodies with entrances and projections. The interior space of the Basilica is divided by pointed arches with small attached columns. The central nave is separated from the presbytery by a dome on pendentives, throughout the entire nave there are ogival-shaped stained glass windows, where its main access leads to a two-level choir.

Los padres de mi esposa, Octavia Maita y Luis Beltrán Jiménez, son oriundos del oriente de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, la Señora Octavia de Barcelona, Estado Anzoátegui y el Señor Luis de San Antonio de Capayacuar, Estado Monagas. Como buenos orientales bautizaron a mi esposa con el nombre de Mercedes del Valle en honor a la Virgen homónima, patrona del oriente de Venezuela. La Virgen del Valle, conocida también como Nuestra Señora del Valle del Espíritu Santo o cariñosamente Vallita, es una advocación de la Virgen María originada en el Estado de Nueva Esparta, en la Isla de Margarita, Venezuela. Cuando Mercedes y yo nos hicimos novios le manifesté que yo no conocía la Isla de Margarita, ella me prometió que algún día íbamos a ir juntos a visitar el santuario de la patrona de todo el oriente de Venezuela, la Virgen de su devoción, la Virgen del Valle. LLegado el momento lo primero que hicimos fue cumplir la promesa. Les confieso que me encantó el lugar, sitio de oración y de recogimiento, el cual se llena de feligreses cada 8 de septiembre, fecha en la cual se celebra su fiesta patronal. Nota: Este templo, originalmente fue una pequeña iglesia, varias veces ha sido modificada e incluso restaurada, una de ellas, coordinada por el Padre Phelipe Martínez, fue en 1733 y desde febrero del año 1925 tiene el estilo que se ve Neogótico que se puede ver en la actualidad. Fue declarada Basílica Menor por el Papa Juan Pablo II, en 1995.
Es un templo pequeño enmarcado en un estilo Neogótico, cuya planta en forma de Cruz Latina remata en dos pequeñas. Posee un acceso principal enmarcado a cada lado por unos salientes, sus torres están compuestas por cuatro cuerpos con entradas y salientes. El espacio interior de la Basílica está dividido por arcos ojivales con pequeñas columnas adosadas. La nave central está separada del presbiterio por una cúpula sobre pechinas, a lo largo de toda la nave se destacan vitrales en forma ojival, donde su acceso principal nos conduce a un coro de dos niveles.
