Hello travelers,
Budapest! ❤️
Did you ever visit Budapest? It's such a beautiful city, full of history! The Danube crossing Budapest adds a lot in for travel addicts simply because it offers an unique vibe and spectacular landscapes.
In the last few years, I've become passionate about big churches and their architecture. I love to admire the most famous and beautiful cathedrals of the big cities.
So, here I am in Budapest, visiting The Church of the Assumption of the Buda Castle.
Matthias Church ⛪️
I'm not an expert when it comes to architecture and buildings, but I guess it comes natural or easy to see a beautiful building and jusy say "wow".
You can't take your eyes off from such an Imposing Building like this one.
I felt in love with it the moment I started to do my research on what to visit in Budapest.
Lucky us, we had a great day in Budapest. A sunny bright day with the blue sky up high, which helped to and create a perfect contrast with the church and I've been able to take some nice photos!
So what do you think?
I personally believe this is a beautiful church with a fantastic architecture and an imposing design!
The cathedral is situated right in the middle of Buda Castle and Fisherman's Bastion.
I know so little about Matthias Church I'll just have to add some sourced info about it.
I'll share here the basics but you can read more about it on internet if you want!
The Church of the Assumption of the Buda Castle (Hungarian: Nagyboldogasszony-templom), more commonly known as the Matthias Church (Hungarian: Mátyás-templom), more rarely the Coronation Church of Buda, is a Roman Catholic church located in the Holy Trinity Square, Budapest, Hungary, in front of the Fisherman's Bastion at the heart of Buda's Castle District.
According to church tradition, it was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015, although few references exist. The current building was constructed in the florid late Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century and was extensively restored in the late 19th century.
It was the second largest church of medieval Buda and the seventh largest church of the medieval Hungarian Kingdom.
It is a historic building with an important history. Two Kings of Hungary were crowned within its walls: Franz Joseph I of Hungary and Elisabeth, and Charles IV of Hungary and Zita of Bourbon-Parma.

Originally named after the Virgin Mary, taking names such as "The Church of Mary" and "The Church of Our Lady," since the 19th century the church has been referred to as Matthias Church, after King Matthias
Today the church has 7 bells. Six of them are located in the bell tower and the last damaged bell hangs in the cavalry tower. Three of the tower's bells are historic bells (from years 1723, 1724 and 1891). The church got four new bells in 2010, then the Szt. Károly bell sound correction took place.
