Welcome back to the architecture+design community, on this occasion I will explain a little about one of the most iconic buildings in my province, namely Aceh Indonesia, this building is the Baiturrahman Mosque in Banda Aceh, so this is one of the proud Acehnese mosques that has been built hundreds of years ago, in addition to being a place for religious activities, this mosque was also the basis for the struggle of the people, Aceh during the colonial period, and became a cultural symbol, this mosque has a very long history because in the colonial period this was the basis of the struggle of the Acehnese people and, This mosque was once burned by the colonials, after being burned this mosque was rebuilt by the king and the colonial party, the architect of the rebuilding of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh was a Dutch person Gerrit Bruins, and after hundreds of years later in 2015 the underground room was built, when the Aceh government built parking space under the front yard of the Baiturra Grand Mosque hman, now the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque has an underground parking lot. This is one of the modern breakthroughs of the entire Baiturrahman Grand Mosque building.
Under this mosque there is an access alley leading to the upper courtyard of the Baiturrahman mosque in Banda Aceh, in this hallway there is a carving which in Acehnese society is called the Aceh Pinto carving, this carving is very typical of the Acehnese indigenous people, has a pride with the Aceh Pinto carving, and in this hallway is equipped with tiled floors, and escalators and ordinary stairs.
In the courtyard of the mosque there is a giant umbrella, the umbrella pole is equipped with a fan, because if the sun is shining, the courtyard of this mosque will feel hot, so these giant umbrellas will be opened when the weather is hot, and the fan is turned on, because every day many visitors, both religious tourism visitors and visitors who want to take a closer look at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, these giant umbrellas imitate the characteristics of the Prophet's mosque in Medina Saudi Arabia, these umbrellas were not previously found in the courtyard of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, but In 2015 these umbrellas were installed, marble was installed on the floor of the courtyard of the mosque, imported directly from China, with the best quality, and in the middle of the mosque's courtyard there is a pool, this also enhances the appearance of the mosque's courtyard.
This mosque has seven black domes, the shape of these domes imitates the characteristics of Indian mughal architecture, and also on the sides of the dome has a saddle hole as a presentation of the tropical climate in Aceh, this dome is designed in the form of fins, using hard wood taken from Aceh forest wood.
The Baiturrahman Mosque in Banda Aceh has three main doors, and there are many other doors both from the right and left sides, with such a gigantic shape, and on these doors there are many ornaments that add to the artistic value of a building including this Baiturrahman mosque, a characteristic feature of the mosque. the ornament of this door symbolizes Aceh's customs which are thick with religious values, when entering the main building of the mosque, there is a staircase made of marble.
In front of this mosque there is a towering tower, this is the tallest building among other buildings in the Baiturrahman mosque complex, above this tower there is also a dome similar to the main dome at the top of the mosque, in terms of architecture this tower also imitates architectural characteristics Indian mugal, with a height of 53 meters, this dome is also one of the iconic buildings in the Baiturrahman mosque complex in Banda Aceh.
The interior of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh has a luxurious impression, inside there are many pillars, which also have reliefs on the pillars and walls. These have a mugal characteristic that symbolizes thick Islam, the floor is made of marble imported from China, there are also large bronze decorative lights, from the left and right sides, also in the middle of the building, glass windows imported from Belgium, the building stones from this mosque were imported from the Netherlands, because the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque building is the pride of the Acehnese people. since the days of the kingdom, so it is very appropriate that the building materials have good quality.
