The materials around us matters. They owns a huge part of our lives since the very beginning of the mankind. Just living in material world and owning a keen sight for observing the importance are two aspects, Only few people can fulfil both of them. So, let's gear up for the journey of selected few from bunch of amazing materials in the world.
Glass- The one that goes with everything!
Glass has been the most fascinating material for me by far. it is multipurpose, one can use it in exterior, interior, furniture and what not ? I guess this is one of the most extensively used materials in the world. From tinted to plain and transparent to opaque there lies varied varieties for glass in the market. One can customise it as well.
That's metro's corridor
The art on the wall has glass over it which makes it luscious, imagine if that won't be with glass, how dull it would have looked. it is more resistant and dimensionally stable building material, odour-neutral, hygienic and easy to maintain. The glass with innovative technology brings so much of additions to its already useful structure such as low-E and infrared coatings are used. They make it possible for glass to only absorb certain colour spectra from light. In combination with shadow and ventilation systems, glass facades are extremely efficient in the winter and provide pleasant shadows in the summer.
That's an artistic piece of chandelier
I clicked this picture in a store and that screams Glass is mesmerizing and so are the skills of humans to mould it into such a lovely art.
Marvellous Marble!
Sangemarmar in Hindi. This material is widely used and depicts class, luxury and strength.
Breath-taking
Do you know, during the process of extracting marble each level of under processed marble is eventually used. Large parts are used for bigger, more expressive projects, while surplus pieces can be used in the formulation of paving blocks or for the manufacture of granitites .Even marble powder can be used to increase the physical properties of structural blocks. Isn't that cool? a complete sustainable material, NO WASTAGE!
Apart from that it owns prominent shades including white, gray, pink, green, and black, marble continues to impress today and is used in civil construction for interior coverings, floors, benches and some facades and used as Raw, Polished, Tumbled and brushed.
Okay, most people cannot distinguish between granite and marble, here let me throw some light on this- marble has veins, granite sports a more grainy appearance. Another important difference is that marble is a more porous material, absorbing more moisture.
And it's prices varies according to how rare and how common is that particular piece.
HPL- The contemporary superhero!
High pressure laminate or HPL is a contemporary architecture's hero, as it's extensive usage is a evidence why I called it so.
Let's know in simple word how it's made- actually overlapping paper sheets filled with thermosetting resins, and joined by the simultaneous application of heat and pressure.
Being flame-retardant and their surface resistant to light. they are also extremely weather-resistant. Thus, these panels combine high protection with a variety of textures and finishes, as well as functionality and thermal comfort and appreciating their textures, colours availability and customisations.
Whenever I see some new construction, the facade always have these cladding of hpl. these are super popular and why not, they are extremely good material for cladding purposes and more.
I am immensely mesmerised from these materials, these are nicest of the bunch for me, although I like the rest ones as well. but if I was asked to mention a few so I would write a blog on them as I just did, you can showcase your interest for your favourite ones and be creative by participating in the Contest held by
Above mentioned pictures are mine, and which are not mine They will have a link below them, feel free to check them out.
