Recently the poet Rafael Cadenas received the Cervantes Award. Being the first Venezuelan to receive this recognition, what a pride!
And in that magical gear of life, a dear friend, who is a pianist, was called to be part of a tribute that the BOD Cultural Center (Banco Occidental de Descuento), made to this poet days before receiving, in Spain, his recognition.
As is well known, invitations are made among friends, so she warmly invited me and I did the same with my friends, so we got together as a group and went to listen to the declamations in tribute to this poet. I can't let this opportunity pass and I will leave you a short poem that I found:
"THE ARGUMENT*
In the morning
we read anesthetized
the news
of war (any war),
a headline
well worth a few fights;
each side
wants to prove that God is on
is on their side
with the definitive argument;
our eyes run over the pages
the pages
-we seek further confirmation
of our defeat
And the paper brings what we hope to find."*
But I am not going to talk about Rafael Cadenas, it is impossible to do so in an architectural publication, or is it possible? However, architecture, society and man merge into one and I cannot talk about the place without first talking about the honoree, which I have done in the previous paragraphs.
Returning to our topic, the BOD Theater is located in the basement of the Torre Financiera BOD, in front of Plaza La Castellana, between Blandin and Los Chaguaramos Avenues, La Castellana, Caracas.
Upon entering the space, the first thing we find is a glass door and then a large open space, concrete ceiling with recessed lights and parquet floor, very elegant. In this space they hold exhibitions and fairs.
At both ends of this room are two doors, each leading to one side of the theater room. The entrance is at the top or back of the room and from there we go down the stairs to our seats.
The room has recessed lighting and spotlights around the perimeter, as well as lights at the entrance to allow visibility. At the back of the room is the stage, with the instruments, the artists' seats and a large screen showing images of the honoree.
The walls are made of concrete covered with wood, with geometric designs, which gives an artistic and elegant air to the place. By the way, the hall has a square shape, with the stage at the vertex of both halls, and has a capacity for about 450 people.
The venue was totally appropriate for the tribute. The use of the tools, music, selected poems and sounds immersed us in the world of the poem itself, I could almost feel the emotion with which each poem was written, some heartbreaking and others full of strength and vitality, like life itself.

Hace poco el poeta Rafael Cadenas recibió el Premio Cervantes. Siendo el primer venezolano en recibir este reconocimiento, ¡que orgullo!
Y en ese mágico engranaje de la vida, una querida amiga, quien es pianista, fue convocada para ser parte de un homenaje que el Centro Cultural BOD (Banco Occidental de Descuento), le hizo a este poeta días antes de recibir, en España, su reconocimiento.
Como bien es sabido, entre amigos se hacen invitaciones, pues ella con gran cariño me invitó y yo hice lo mismo con mis amigos, así que nos reunimos un grupo y nos fuimos a escuchar las declamaciones en homenaje a este poeta. No puedo dejar pasar la oportunidad y te voy a dejar un poema bien cortito que encontré:
“EL ARGUMENTO
Por la mañana
leemos anestesiados
las noticias
de la guerra (cualquier guerra),
un titular
bien merece algunos combates;
cada bando
desea demostrar que Dios
está de su parte
con el argumento definitivo;
nuestros ojos recorren
las páginas
-buscamos más confirmaciones
de nuestra derrota
y el periódico trae lo que esperamos encontrar."
Pero no les voy a hablar de Rafael Cadenas, imposible hacerlo en una publicación de arquitectura, o ¿sí se puede? Sin embargo, la arquitectura, la sociedad y el hombre se funden en uno solo y no puedo hablar del lugar sin primero hablar del homenajeado, cosa que he hecho en los párrafos anteriores.
Volviendo a nuestro tema, el Teatro del BOD está ubicado en el sótano de la Torre Financiera BOD, frente a la Plaza La Castellana, entre las Avenidas Blandin y Los Chaguaramos, La Castellana, Caracas.
Al entrar a los espacios, lo primero que nos encontramos es con una puerta de vidrio y luego gran espacio abierto, techo de concreto con luces empotradas y piso de parquet, muy elegante. En este espacio hacen exposiciones y ferias.
A ambos extremos de esta sala se encuentran dos puertas, cada una lleva a un lado de la sala del teatro. La entrada está en la parte superior o trasera de la sala y desde allí bajamos las escaleras para ubicarnos en nuestros asientos.
La sala tiene en su perímetro luces empotradas y reflectores, así como en la entrada luces para permitir la visibilidad. Al fondo se aprecia el escenario, con los instrumentos, asientos de los artistas y una gran pantalla donde mostraron imágenes del homenajeado.
Las paredes son de concretos revestidos de madera, con diseños geométricos, lo que le da un aire artístico y elegante al lugar. Por cierto, la sala tiene forma de escuadra, con el escenario en el vértice de ambas salas y tiene capacidad para unas 450 personas.
El lugar fue totalmente apropiado para el homenaje. El uso de las herramientas, música, poemas seleccionados y sonidos nos sumió en el mundo mismo del poema, casi que podía sentir la emoción con la que fue escrito cada poema, algunos desgarradores y otros llenos de fuerza y vitalidad, como la vida misma.
