Greetings to all the hivers in this community. I have always been fascinated by architectural designs and constructions whether new or old. Today for the first time I am posting in this community and I bring you a church that has accompanied me for a little more than 10 years.
It is the Corazón de Jesús Church
Located in the center of Caracas - Venezuela. The facade of the church is right in front of my bedroom window, so it is the first thing I see when I wake up and the last thing I see at the end of the day.
The neo-gothic style church has always caught my attention, especially on those stormy days, when the cumulus clouds land on its cross and I'm not sure whether to ask forgiveness for my sins or to put the clothes I have put out to dry.
The history of this church begins when in 1903 the Dominican religious took possession of the "Corazón de Jesús" chapel that had been founded by Bishop Gregorio Rodríguez Obregón. In 1916 they commissioned the expansion of the chapel to Luis Muñoz Tebar, civil engineer and architect, who decided to give it a neo-gothic style, that is to say, an interpretation of the majestic medieval constructions of the 12th century.
The church has imposing high ceilings, painted in white and gold. Its central columns in gilt are fascinating. The terminations of the arches and windows are ogee-shaped, a predominant style in its details.
The walls have striking stained glass windows. In the upper part of the façade, as well as in the altar, there is a stained glass window in the form of a rose window with many colors and details. The finishes of the church are luxurious and ornate decorations.
In all the lateral wall of the church there are several marble altars with images related to saints, virgins and Christs, just above each altar there is a stained glass window. Between the central nave and the lateral ones there is a row of hanging lamps that give majesty to the place.
Just above the entrance of the church there is a second floor, where the members of the religious congregation attend religious services.
The roof is flat in its lateral naves, I could say that it is a concrete casting, but the central nave is gabled, covered with red tiles. One day I went up to the roof of the building where I live and managed to take this picture.
Through this roof the church is joined to the parish house located on its north side. This church is one of the most visited churches during Holy Week, and there is a long queue to get in.
In 1918 the right nave was completed, in 1922 the central nave was completed and in 1923 the left nave was completed. Here we would think that the church would remain like this, but no, it turns out that in 1956 the urban advances of the city and the construction of an important avenue called Fuerzas Armadas, forced to demolish 8 meters of its facade. The new facade was completed in 1963, maintaining the neo-Gothic style, as originally designed by its architect Luis Muñoz Tebar.

Saludos a todos los hivers de esta comunidad. Siempre he sentido fascinación por los diseños arquitectónicos y construcciones ya sean nuevas o antiguas. Hoy por primera vez publico en esta comunidad y les traigo una iglesia que me ha acompañado desde hace poco más de 10 años.
Se trata de la Iglesia Corazón de Jesús
Ubicada en el Centro de Caracas – Venezuela. La fachada de la iglesia está justo al frente de la ventana de mi habitación, así que es lo primero que veo al despertar y lo último que veo al finalizar el día.
La iglesia de estilo neogótico siempre ha llamado mi atención, sobre todo esos días de tormentas, cuando los cúmulos nimbos se posan sobre su cruz y no estoy segura si pedir perdón por mis pecados o meter la ropa que he puesto a secar.
La historia de esta iglesia inicia cuando en el año 1903 los religiosos dominicos tomaron posesión de la capilla “Corazón de Jesús” que había sido fundada por el obispo Gregorio Rodríguez Obregón. En 1916 encargaron la ampliación de la capilla a Luis Muñoz Tebar, ingeniero civil y arquitecto, quien decidió imprimirle un estilo neogótico, es decir, una interpretación de las majestuosas construcciones medievales del siglo XII.
La iglesia tiene altos techos imponentes, pintados de blanco y dorado. Sus columnas centrales en dorado son fascinantes. Las terminaciones de los arcos y ventanales tienen forma de ovija, estilo predominante en sus detalles.
Las paredes tienen vitrales impactantes. En la parte superior de la fachada, así como en el altar hay un vitral en forma de rosetón con muchos colores y detalles. Los acabados de la iglesia son decoraciones lujosas y ornamentadas.
En toda la pared lateral de la iglesia hay varios altares de mármol con imágenes relacionadas a santos, vírgenes y cristos, justo sobre cada altar hay un vitral. Entre la nave central y las laterales hay una fila de lámparas colgantes que dan majestuosidad al lugar.
Justo sobre la entrada de la iglesia hay un segundo piso, donde entiendo atienen los oficios religiosos los miembros de la congregación religiosa.
El techo es plano en sus naves laterales, podría decir que es un vaciado de concreto, pero la nave central es a dos aguas, cubierta con tejas rojas. Un día que subí a la azotea del edificio donde resido logré tomar esta foto.
A través de este techo se une la iglesia a la casa parroquial ubicada en su lindero norte. Esta iglesia es una de las iglesias más visitadas durante la semana santa, de por sí, se hace cola para entrar.
En 1918 se culminó la nave derecha, en 1922 se culminó la nave central y en 1923 se culminó la nave izquierda. Aquí pensaríamos que la iglesia quedaría así, pero no, resulta que en 1956 los avances urbanísticos de la ciudad y la construcción de una importante avenida llamada Fuerzas Armadas, obligaron a demoler 8 metros de su fachada. La nueva fachada fue culminada en 1963, manteniendo el estilo neogótico, como originalmente lo diseño su arquitecto Luis Muñoz Tebar.
