War, poverty, power struggles and stories of wounds are things that cannot be separated from history. I remember what R.A Kartini, a hero of women's emancipation from my country said, that we must learn to live in harmony so that history does not repeat itself.
Exploring Turkey is like walking into a classroom having a history lesson. Surprisingly, for someone who did not like history lessons during school, a trip to Turkey actually made my yearning about history turbulent. I suddenly became the most diligent student who listened to our tour guide explaining every tourist spot we visited. Our schedule today is to visit the city of Bursa which was the first capital in the heyday of the Ottoman Empire. Also called the green city because of its beautiful place and there are still many lush trees, Bursa City has an iconic place that is always crowded with tourists.
Hexagonal Green Tomb
In addition to the city which is still beautiful, the tomb of the fifth Sultan of the Ottoman Empire is also bluish-green. Therefore, the tomb of Sultan Mehmet 1 is also called the Green Tomb.
Green Tomb is on a small hill in the yesil village of Bursa town. right next to the green mosque. To get to the Green Tomb, we can go through the stairs marked with the #BURSA signage.
After passing the stairs, we can immediately find the tombs that are outside. This is the tomb of the sultan Mehmet 1's family.
From the tomb outside, there is another staircase to the main green tomb building. The tall hexagonal-shaped building with a bluish-green color is in sight.
Seen from the outside, the walls are lined with green to blue ceramics, and right near the entrance there is the inscription Sultan Mehmet 1.
The front view at the entrance is in the form of an arch with green ornaments. As soon as we enter by passing a few steps, we will immediately meet the tomb of Sultan Mehmet 1 which is very beautiful and looks magnificent.
The tomb of the sultan Mehmet 1 is placed on a green pulpit, and the body of the tomb also has the same color with gold calligraphy writing ornaments.
Beside the tomb of Sultan Mehmet 1 there is the tomb of his wife and children. Surrounded by a golden fence, the arrangement of the tomb is very neat.
This hexagonal building has several windows in the form of green niches covered with wooden ornaments, adding to the classic impression of the hundreds-year-old building.
There is also a kind of pulpit on one side which is green with a combination of gold. This pulpit is very impressive because of the gold color used for calligraphy.
The dome of this building is a white hemi-sphere on the outside, and a hint of red and blue on the inside.
The red and slightly blue colors on the dome ornament match the pomegranate candelier that hangs beautifully right in the middle of the tomb.
For additional information, my Tourguide told me that this building was designed by the son of Sultan Mehmet 1 named Murad II assisted by an architect named Hachi Ivaz Pasha.
