Hello friends in Architecture+Design Community, Today, Saturday 17 September, my family and I are on an excursion to Berastagi City, One of our tourist destinations is Vihara Dharma Shanti which is a place of worship for Buddhists. According to the inscription in front of the monastery, this monastery was inaugurated by the Regent of Tanah Karo in 2004.The luxurious architecture of the building can be seen from afar, the overall design is so beautiful that it seems to blend with the natural surroundings.
This monastery is located in Hamlet IX Sempaya Village, Berastagi, Karo District Indonesia. Beautiful gardens and neatly arranged surround the luxurious temple building. This is the perfect design for modern/city style architecture in the countryside.
When entering the monastery area, there is a garden on the left and right of the temple entrance, this park has a very beautiful design with decorative lights that fill the garden.
We started to enter the magnificent temple building, we and some visitors could not enter the monastery room, because the monastery was closed. According to the temple keeper, the monastery will be very crowded on the 1st and 15th of every month. Buddhists from various Indonesia and even Malaysia will be busy visiting the Vihara Dharma Shanti.
The architecture of the Vihara is very grand with a modern design. The Vihara keeper said that the temple building was designed by an architect from Malaysia.
In front of the entrance of the monastery there is a booth to receive visitors. Because today the monastery is closed, there is no one to guard the booth.
The architecture of the building looks so sturdy, it is equipped with support poles that have a design that looks luxurious and majestic. In front of the entrance of the monastery there is a staircase leading to the 2nd floor. The stairs are made of a mixture of marble and Spanish stone.
In front of the temple entrance there are also many beautiful bonsai.
The design in front of the temple entrance is also amazing, there are many decorative Buddha-themed statues.
The window glass on the 2nd floor has a luxurious design, with a large shape and framed by pillars that add to the solid impression of the building on the 2nd floor.
On the balcony on the 2nd floor there are beautiful decorations, the decorative designs on the 2nd floor can be seen surrounding the building.
Around the temple building there is a resting place that seems comfortable because it is made of wood which is designed minimalist and makes visitors feel at home for a long time in this monastery.
Vihara Dharma Shanti is always crowded with tourists, because visitors can also pick various vegetables in the garden owned by the Vihara. There are chilies, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli and various other vegetables.
It doesn't feel like time has passed for so long, the comfortable and cool atmosphere makes us forget the time. when we were outside the monastery, we just realized right in front of the monastery building there is an inn and restaurant specifically for Vegans. The architecture of the building is dominated by wood, making this inn so amazing, we are made to feel like staying in the middle of the forest. The inn at this location, is designed for visitors and pilgrims who visit the monastery every 1st and 15th of every month.
In my opinion, this monastery has a luxurious architecture and an amazing design surrounded by typical hilly views and a cool climate. Modern design with an impressive style but located in the countryside, so it is very luxurious because the surrounding buildings are still in traditional style.
Because the monastery is closed today, so I can't provide photos of the inside of the temple🙏
