Changing the Hallway Floor / Cambiando el Piso del Corredor

Hello colleagues, today with great pride I come to show you the new advances in the process of remodeling and reconditioning of all the spaces that make up my mom's house, several weeks ago I showed you how with much effort and dedication as we managed to place terracotta to the entire surface of the floor of the kitchen and living room, but by that time a major work was pending, which was the removal of the old floor to the corridor, so we could place it again and improve all the imperfections that existed on it.

Hola compañeros, hoy con mucho orgullo vengo a mostrarles los nuevos avances en el proceso de remodelación y reacondicionamiento de todos los espacios que componen la casita de mi mamá, hace varias semanas les mostraba como con mucho esfuerzo y dedicación como logramos colocarle terracotas a toda la superficie del piso de la cocina y la sala, pero para ese momento quedaba pendiente un mayor trabajo, el cual consistía en la remoción del viejo piso al corredor, para así poderlo colocar de nuevo y mejorar todas las imperfecciones que sobre él existían.

The materials requested for this work consisted of several sacks of cement, half a meter of sand and a kilo of red oxide, the same workers who have been in charge of the construction of my house were hired to perform this work, but before they arrived I had to have everything ready, so I proceeded to buy the sand in advance and with the help of my father I began to pile it on the side of the sidewalk to prevent any rain from dragging it with it. When the weekend arrived, the workers arrived at my mother's house very early, to begin to peck and knock down a good part of the old floor, which was broken, with severe unevenness and in general terms in quite deplorable conditions, therefore, to intervene and remove it almost completely was a more than necessary task.

Los materiales solicitados para este trabajo consistían en varios sacos de cemento, medio metro de arena y un kilo de óxido rojo, los mismos obreros que han estado a cargo de la construcción de mi casa fueron los contratados para realizar esta labor, pero antes de que ellos llegaran yo debía tener todo listo, es así como procedí a comprar la arena con anticipación y con ayuda de mi padre comencé a apilarla a un lado de la acera para evitar que alguna lluvia la arrastrara consigo. Llegado el fin de semana los obreros arribaron a casa de mi mamá muy temprano, para comenzar a picotear y tumbar buena parte del piso viejo, el cual se encontraba partido, con severos desniveles y en términos generales en condiciones bastante deplorables, por lo tanto, intervenirlo y retirarlo casi por completo fue una labor más que necesaria.

Practically, on the original floor slab, the cement with the sand and water would begin to be mixed, to gradually begin to assemble the new surface, which by my mother's requirements had to maintain a considerable unevenness that would allow the floor to drain quickly and efficiently, Almost by the natural action of the force of gravity, little by little the gaps and unevenness continued to be covered and we began to appreciate a more elegant, smooth and even finish which undoubtedly was filling our hearts with joy, since it was a goal that was about to be achieved.

Prácticamente, sobre la losa piso original se comenzaría a mezclar el cemento con la arena y el agua, para poco a poco ir empezando a armar la nueva superficie, la cual por requerimientos de mi madre debía mantener un desnivel considerable que permitiera escurrir el piso de una manera rápida y eficaz, casi que por acción natural de la fuerza de gravedad, poco a poco siguen tapando los huecos y desniveles y comenzaba a apreciar un acabado más elegante, liso y parejo el cual sin duda alguna iba llenando de alegría en nuestros corazones, ya que se trataba de una meta que estaba a punto de ser alcanzada.

Once a good part of the cement floor was in place, the work of painting it began, using a mixture of cement plus a red powder, which I do not know the brand, but I was informed that it was a product imported from Germany and that it was much better than the one I had used on the floor of my house, to tell the truth I was surprised from the beginning by the results of this powder, since with just a touch the cement acquired an intense red color, which was certainly much easier to work, this because it covered the entire surface in a better way.

Una vez que buena parte del piso de cemento estaba colocado se comenzó con la labor de pintarlo, utiliza una mezcla de cemento más un polvo de color rojo, el cual desconozco la marca, pero me informaron que se trataba de un producto importado desde Alemania y que por lo cual era mucho mejor que el que yo había usado en el piso de mi casa, a decir verdad me sorprendió desde un inicio los resultados de este polvo, ya que con solo un toque el cemento adquiría un color rojo intenso, el cual sin duda alguna era mucho más fácil de trabajar, esto debido a que cubría de mejor manera toda la superficie.

Throughout the afternoon we continued matching, polishing and painting the entire surface of the floor, always with the delicacy that everything was the best possible, to tell the truth the materials performed quite well and the weather played in our favor, as it was sunny and the rain for that afternoon dissipated naturally, allowing a perfect finish and a fairly fast drying. By the next morning the result of the work done was more than tangible, the floor acquired a nice color and the surface was very even, therefore, will not require much work to polish it, also the idea is that it is a little porous to prevent my mom suffers an accident while moving on it.

Durante toda la tarde se siguió emparejando, puliendo y pintando toda la superficie del piso, siempre con la delicadeza de que todo quedara lo mejor posible, a decir verdad los materiales rindieron bastante y el tiempo nos jugó a nuestro favor, ya que hizo buen sol y la lluvia para esa tarde se disipó de forma natural, permitiendo un acabado perfecto y un secado bastante rápido. Ya para la mañana siguiente el resultado del trabajo realizado era más que tangible, el piso adquirió un color bien bonito y la superficie quedó muy pareja, por lo tanto, no requerirá tanto trabajo para pulirla, además la idea es que quede un poquito poroso para evitar que mi mamá sufra algún accidente mientras se desplaza sobre él.

To prevent the floor from being stained and at the same time to remove any imperfection of cement and begin to shine it is necessary to apply a few coats of diesel oil, which are then removed with plenty of water and blue soap, this is a technique that may be little known in other latitudes, but here is more than demonstrated that it is the perfect way to cure the floors and then make them shine in an economical and efficient way.

Para evitar que el piso quede Manchado y al mismo tiempo para retirar cualquier imperfección de cemento y comenzar a sacarle brillo es necesario aplicarle algunas capas de gasoil, las cuales posteriormente son retiradas con abundante agua y jabón azul, esta es una técnica que tal vez es poco conocida en otras latitudes, pero acá está más que demostrado que resulta ser la manera perfecta de poder curar los pisos y posteriormente hacerlos brillar de una forma económica y eficiente.

Es de esta manera como ya lo he limpiado en varias ocasiones y poco a poco veo cómo los cambios se van haciendo realidad, con cada lampaceada los poros se van sellando y poco a poco con la ayuda de diferentes tipos de cera se va intensificando su color y el mismo tiempo va adquiriendo ese brillo tan característico de los pisos de cemento pulido, además aprovechamos la oportunidad para colocarle a las escaleras de acceso principal a la casa una superficie cubierta por terracotas, con lo cual interesante con el piso del corredor y el mismo tiempo se convierte en el preludio ideal para lo que nos encontraremos en la sala y la cocina.

Undoubtedly to be able to give this gift to my mother is a great satisfaction for me, because for years this has been a very humble house, which I have not received major interventions over the years, this because my mother always prioritized the education and welfare of their children and resources were not enough to improve their home, but now that we are all adults is our duty to provide all our support to have a nice and dignified place where you can live to the fullest, full of joy and peace.

Sin duda alguna que poderle dar este regalo a mi madre me resulta en una satisfacción enorme, pues durante años esta ha sido una casa muy humilde, la cual no he recibido grandes intervenciones durante años, esto debido a que mi madre siempre priorizó la educación y el bienestar de sus hijos y los recursos no le alcanzaban para ir mejorando su casa, pero ahora que ya todos somos adultos es nuestro deber proporcionarle todo nuestro apoyo para que tenga un lugar digno y lindo en donde pueda vivir a plenitud, llena de alegría mucha paz.
