Today I want to introduce you to another of Venezuela's emblematic bridges, located over the Orinoco River in the Guayana region of Venezuela. This bridge is located 5 kilometers from Ciudad Bolivar and joins the states of Anzoategui and Bolivar.
The Angostura Bridge was built in order to encourage the development of the Guayana region and allow the passage of vehicles between the south of Venezuela and other states, which was previously done with barges and ferries which had to struggle with the strong currents of the river.
The construction of this structure began in December 1962 and was completed in 1967, inaugurated by the President of that time Raul Leoni, it is said that its approximate cost at that time was about 177 million bolivars. At that time it was the largest suspension bridge in South America and the ninth largest in the world.

In 2006, the Government initiated a project to revitalize this work in order to recover the main structures, the electrical system and the accesses, extending its life for at least approximately 50 years.

Hoy quiero darles a conocer otro de los puentes emblemáticos de Venezuela, ubicado sobre el Rio Orinoco en la región de Guayana en Venezuela. Este puente se encuentra ubicado a 5 kilometros de Ciudad Bolívar y une a los estados Anzoategui y Bolívar.

Dicha estructura se empezó a construir en diciembre de 1962 y fué culminada en el año 1967, inagurado por el Presidente de esa epoca Raul Leoni, se dice que su costo aproximado en ese tiempo fue de unos 177 millones de bolívares. El Puente de angostura fué construido y diseñado por una empresa estadounidense llamada United Status steel International Ltd. en conjunto con el Consorcio Puente Orinoco conformado por la empresa venezolana Comprimido C.A. pero bajo la supervisión del Ingeniero Paul lustgarten, nacido en ciudad Bolivar y trabajador del Ministerio de Obras Publicas, encaragado de las obras de infraestructura en el pais.
Fué bautizado Angostura por ubicarse en el tramo mas estrecho del Rio Orinoco, entre los sectores de Punta Chacón en el estado bolivar y Paya blanca en el Estado Anzoategui.
Este puente es considerado una joya de la ingenieria en Venezuela, ya que su estructura es bastante compleja. Es un puente colgante de 16,6 metros de ancho con una longitud de 1.678 metros de los cuales, 1.272 representa su plataforma central colgante, está sostenido por dos torres de acero de 119 metros de altura y está conformado por cuatro canales de circulación.
Su altura maxima sobre el Rio orinoco es de 57 metros en verano y de 41 metros en epoca de lluvias, respetando así las normas internacionales para el transito naviero bajo la estructura. En este año cumplió en enero, 54 años de fundado.

Metodo de construcción y materiales utilizados:
Para su construcción se utilizó concreto armado para las fundaciones y los anclajes. Se utilizó acero para el parte colgante, para los tableros y los pilones.Los puentes de acceso son de vigas de cajón en concreto postensado.
Rehabilitación de la obra:
En el año 2006 el Gobierno inció un proyecto de reavilitación de esta obra a fin de recuperar las principales estructuras, el sistema electrico y los accesos, alargando la vida del mismo por al menos aproximadamente unos 50 años.
Volviendo a mi niñez:
De niña viví hasta los 9 años en Ciudad Bolívar, cuando saliamos de viaje a otra ciudad, incluso de regreso a Ciudad Bolívar, lo que mas recuerdo de esos viajes era la emoción por verlo y cruzarlo, para mi que era tan pequeña, era algo asombroso y fascinante cruzar un puente que colgaba sobre un rio que intimidaba por su grandeza y color. Al pasar por la parte mas alta y atravesar sus imponentes arcos, me sentía como en el cielo, como si volara.
