I looked up the history for you
And added the source.
I have to advice when you visit Rotterdam go to the Kralingse bos and go see this beauty.
Even in a city we have mills.
Mill De Lelie is the smallest and the oldest mill at this Kralingse Bos. It dates way back from 1777. Molen De Ster is first mentioned in books and literature in 1830. For us People from Rotterdammere Kralingse bos is an important place to unwind, sport, walk the dogs and be joining family. Also restaurants are in the forest so I think there is nobody from my home city that doesn’t know the mills here. Also the restaurant besides the mill called “ the gardens “ is very well know for a outside lunch after walking the dogs or skating in my case. De Ster burned down in 1865 and 1962 and was completely rebuilt both times. The mills used to grind spices and tobacco and have been owned for more than a century by the Hioolen family, who lived on the complex and conducted their business there. In the Karottenfabriek connected to the mills, the tobacco leaves were pulled together into bundles (‘karots’), which were then finely chopped into snuff in the mills. The latter not for smoking, but to make it 'snuff'. In the nineteenth century, snuff was a widely used stimulant. Tobacco was finely chopped and mixed with spices and fragrances. You put a little bit of it on your fist, in the hollow between your thumb and forefinger, and sniffed it. It gave a refreshing, stimulating feeling. But snuff naturally also contained nicotine and could become addictive. Snuff is hardly used anymore in the Netherlands, but it is still used abroad.

I made the pictures during my birthday walk Sunday in the Kralingse bos forest with family and dogs. It’s always great to unwind and talk. Talk and walk , could be a new tag #talkandwalk . I love it and the kids , the dogs and we as a family love it. Two hours in the forest and your head is clear. Ready to start the week again.
For my loyal reader and the #zapfic240 zpfic true blog this week : This is not our ill Charlie, the jumping dog is Joe our second younger one.
