This is my entry in the Shadow Hunters Contest Round 170 which is hosted by ! You can learn more about the Shadow Hunters Contest and how to enter HERE!
This first photo is my entry for the contest! I have a grouping of Spiderwort plants in a corner of my garden and the flowers just really started blooming in abundance this week.
The spot that they are growing in gets quite a bit of sunlight and my photos show the shadows cast from the stamens, anthers and filament hairs.
The Spiderwort is a perennial so it comes back every year. It is considered to be an invasive plant but (knock on wood) so far they've stayed fairly well contained to this one spot without spreading very much.
I've been pretty happy with the Spiderwort plant and where it is growing. It does add a nice bit of color as the little flowers start blooming in Spring and the plant will continue blooming through Summer. The flowers only last a day but new blooms are continually opening up. In addition, the Spiderwort plant doesn't seem to mind our weather here which can be very hot and humid during the Summer months. Usually, the bees love to gather on the flowers, especially, the little sweat bees, but we did have a cold spell the last couple of weeks so I didn't see any bees on them today but I'm sure they will show up any day now.
Thank you for the Shadow Hunters Contest and thank you also to all of the sponsors and guest judges!!
