Every hunter here definitely knows that there are times to hunt. Judging from the type of shadow, you should know that this picture was taken around 1 pm today. Barefooted and with a bit of desperation, I decided to take photographs of different shadows.
In the farm, there are beautiful shadows that make a lot of sense. However, with the intense heat of the sun at such peak hours, one has no choice but to run away after taking such shadows. This is because getting a sun tan has little to no importance for a Black man like me.
Also, one can see different plant leaves with beautiful shadows all around. I remembered how I got scared of a banana plant shadow one night. I thought someone was holding a machete. That day, I jumped up shouting for help, but none came. Lo and behold, after a while I didn't see anyone — just a scary shadow. It wasn't funny at all. It tells us that shadows could be misrepresented.
My grandma told me the story of a young girl whose shadow no longer matched her movement. It waves when she keeps her hand down. It points when she stands still. One night, she follows it — and discovers her shadow has been trying to lead her to something hidden beneath her house.
I learnt that shadows point us to our worries, past, and hidden secrets — good and bad memories. Grandma always told us to face the light and leave our shadows behind.
