Huge golf ball stands still,
Lush greenery brings bright smiles,
Nature's heart in play.
Since today is an important day worldwide, I am sharing my humble Haiku entry as the world celebrates International Haiku Poetry Day with the quarter shadow of a huge golf ball.
Happy International Haiku Poetry Day!
Tripping down memory lane, one afternoon, I went to Del Monte Golf Course in my hometown. It is a popular spot with a golf club and a fine dining restaurant.
I went to the place not to play golf but to eat my ever-favorite steak, spaghetti, clubhouse sandwich, and blueberry cheesecake.
Before I explored the lush greenery and beautiful surroundings at the main entrance, I was amazed at the huge golf ball casting a rare shadow.
Perhaps I am calling it a rare shadow because, typically, a shadow of an object has a size that is directly proportional to its actual size, but it demonstrated a quarter shadow only.
There is much to explain regarding Science, as I discuss reflection in my Physics class. Indeed, it has something to do with the light source and the angle of light at which it is striking. So, it is all about the light source relative to the object that casts the shadow, which determines its shape and size.
And, concerning the shadows of a golf ball that I have captured, it has a quarter shadow only because the source of light coming from a certain angle was almost perpendicular to the ground from which it was standing, which makes the shadow cast directly beneath the huge golf ball.
However, as I bring out the little kid in me, I am still amazed how a huge golf ball cast a small size not proportional to its actual appearance regardless of the scientific facts.
And it was a fantastic day because the surroundings were so relaxing, the weather was beautiful, and I was so satisfied with my favorite foods at the Del Monte Golf Club and Restaurant.
