I begin by confessing that Gibran's work is not one of my favorites, with the exception of the centenary The Prophet. My mother, a fan of this author, owned all his books and used to reread them, I always told her that I thought his writing was gray and dark and she was not the only one who thought so, he has many detractors, but also many followers that even a hundred years after its publication, The Prophet continues to sell worldwide.
The work narrates the example of things that sometimes we would like a subject with sufficient affectivity to tell us in order to calm us down. In the troubled times we live in, perhaps we should consider the benefits of this book. It is a viable book to read, it is short, but this does not imply that it can be read quickly, because each part invites to a deep reflection, without fundamentalist inclinations, notwithstanding the Islamic origin of the author.
The Prophet shows the hidden form of the simple truths of life and that perhaps the human being in his complexity has made them feel tangled. The book clarifies in the book many of the uncertainties that accompany the human being in his journey through existence, it is a review, neatly written, of the purest human criteria, on elementary issues. Twenty-six poetic essays are enough to complete this work, the author raises issues through a dialogue in verse between a prophet and the inhabitants of his native place, dealing with love, eating and drinking, marriage, children, work, among others. Also noteworthy is the figure of the master as someone who is listened to, loved and who brings his knowledge of life to his fellow citizens.
