The Sisterhood / La Cofradía [Eng - Spa]

The old people say that the ugly women of the town that year formed a sisterhood. It was an innocent group to help each other find a boyfriend and look a little better when going out.

They learned to cook with their grandmothers, El ""asado negro"" and the appetizing hallaca, the bienmesabes and alfandoques, the pretty ones didn't have time to learn that and they spent their time getting their nails done and reading novels by Corin Tellado.

The ugly ones also learned poetry and knew how to build. from a sonnet to a glose; They read Becquer, Buesa and Dario.

They secretly asked for advice on love matters from Calpurnia, one of the prostitutes of the club that was leaving for the neighboring town. Step by step the ugly ones got married and many of the pretty ones in the town went to other parts or stayed "to dress saints".

Cuentan los viejos que las feas del pueblo ese año formaron una cofradía. Era un grupo inocente para ayudarse a encontrar novio y a lucir un poquito mejor a la hora de salir a la calle. Aprendieron a cocinar con las abuelas el asado negro y la apetitosa hallaca, losbbienmesabes y alfandoques; las bonitas no tenían tiempo para aprender eso ya quea que se pasaban el tiempo el tiempo arreglándose las uñas y leyendo novelitas de Corin Tellado.

Tambien las feas aprendieron poesía y sabían construir desde un soneto hasta una glosa ; leían a Becquer,, a Buesa y a Dario. Pedían en secreto los consejos en materia amorosa de Calpurnia,, una de las meretrices del antro que quedaba saliendo hacia el pueblo vecino .

Poco a poco se fueron casando las feas y muchas de las bonitas del pueblo se fueron a otras partes o se quedaron para vestir santos.

De aquellas feas nacieron hijas bonitas pero enseñadas desde niñas en las artes de la cocina las letras y el amor. Ahora lo que escasea en el pueblo son los solteros y desde otros pueblos vienen a buscar novia o compañera.

Las feas cambiaron la historia y por eso es que dicen "Que no hay mujer fea sino mal aprendida" y "El que agarra feas agarra mas " por no decir otra cosa.
