Have you ever been so infatuated with fiction that you almost equated it with everyday life? Making fanfiction from your favorite characters, buying lots of accessories themed for the fictional story, to creating a world that has a different storyline from the original story? This is what Cath does all the time.
Being a teenager who just entered the world of campus is certainly not easy. She is shy and has only one person to trust: Wren, her twin sister. But it turns out that Wren chose to "split" with Cath while on campus.
Cath didn't know what to do without Wren. But slowly he has a friend who is willing to accept all her oddities.
She's a fictional maniac. Especially the story about Simon Snow which has 7 series from the author. And will end in the eighth series. Cath wants her to make the eighth series ending in her fanfiction before the original author finishes the story.
Writing fanfiction is a part of her life. Simon and Baz are two characters who become the axis of her life. Unfortunately, no one knows that Cath is a famous fanfiction writer. Somehow I like it because it reminds me of one of the famous fantasy novels of all time: Harry Potter.
Like most translated novels, Fangirl also provides a lot of narratives. Although it looks boring at first (as evidenced by the fact that it took me a long time to read this and I was wondering where the story was going). However, the story starts to get cool when Cath meets Levi.
This Levi was the boyfriend—or ex-boyfriend—of Cath's roommate, Reagan. The relationship between the three of them eventually became close. Especially when Levi is interested in Cath and asks Cath to read her fanfiction story.
The scene reading this in my opinion is very cheesy, but sweet. I think Levi is dyslexic, that's why he can't read Cath's stories—not even college books—in person. That's why he always asked Reagan (who was the same age as him) to help him study.
The conflict between Cath-Wren and her father is also very obvious. Family conflicts are very familiar but still touch my heart. It's a very touching part when his two children are grown up, and their father has to live alone after getting a divorce from their mother.
As far as reading this book to the end, I've always wanted to be like Cath for who she really is. Not adventurous, and have good writing skills. Regarding Levi, what makes the saga like his character is that he doesn't take things lightly. He knew there was another side to someone to be proud of.
For example, when Cath said her fanfiction stuck at one point and looked unattractive, Levi would listen to the end and say it was interesting. And about Levi's vintage but a cool old car for me. Levi's taste is pretty good. Hahaha.
In this book, you will like to read two stories. The story of Cath and his daily life, and fragments of Cath's fanfiction or excerpts from Simon Snow's original book.
And the most interesting thing about the cover is that it looks simple. As for the title, it's true that Cath is a fangirl of Simon Snow.
So, have you read it? Do you like it?
Happy reading! 😍
