Hi Hivers and Hive Book Club members. I'm just discovering this community and what better occasion to join than participating in the Hive Book Club Contest #3 All About Readers.
I like to read since I can remember. In my family, both my father and my mother were good readers and since I was l child I learned to love reading. When I was a teenager, I remember spending hours awake reading Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). At that time, my taste for Latin American literature grew and not only García Márquez, but also Vargas Llosa and Cortázar were among my favorite authors.
My fondness for reading hasn't waned. My husband is even more fond of books than I am. And I'm glad that my son, naturally, has also developed an interest in reading. And he by the way, has just finish reading Cien Años de Soledad.
I like to read suspense, mystery, and romance novels. But in general, any book with a good story is a book that I can read.
What is your favorite time or place to read?
I use to read at night. But I also like to read on Sundays in the morning if we stay at home. After my first cup of coffee of the day I like to lie on the sofa to read. And any time or place that leaves us the chance to read is welcome. For example, during the lockdown, I used to read at any time and I could finish reading a complete novel in just a couple of days.
What makes you enjoy a book?
I enjoy a book when I feel trapped by the story. Books with plots that catch us or that have surprising turns and leave us hooked until we reach the final outcome.
I also enjoy books that make me transport myself with my imagination to places I don't know. Lately, I've been hooked with historical romantic novels and I have realized that I like to imagine what life was like in other distant times.
Do you like to read outdoors, before bed, or on the bus on your way to work?
I use to read before bed. I work at home and when I get out I usually drive so I don't read on the way. But when I have the chance to read outdoor, I do it. I love to read at the beach. I love to sit on a lounger in the shade on a sunny day with the breeze and the smell of the sea while I read. I remember a summer vacation on Margarita Island, we spent much time at the beach and I read the whole novel 11 22 63 by Stephen King on those beach days.
Do you focus on character development, thoughtful messages, or the level of intrigue a plot generates in you?
I think that of these three aspects the one that hooks me the most is the level of intrigue that the plot awakens in me.
I adore those books that since you read the first pages keep you wanting to know what is going to happen. Those which can stay you awake reading until dawn because you need to know.
Although the construction of the characters is also important for me. There are characters in books that come to life in our imaginations that somehow it is as if we actually got to know them or wish to. After all, who doesn't love reading one of those books in which we end up in love with the main character and remains unforgettable in our memory.
I would like to invite my friends and
to join the contest.
If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading.
