📚 My experience at the Buenos Aires International Book Fair + new books [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy me paso por acá para mostrarles un poco de lo que fue mi paso por la Feria Internacional del Libro de Buenos Aires de este año, en su edición número 50, y los últimos libros que adquirí allí.

Hello, readers! I’m stopping by today to share a little bit about my experience at this year’s Buenos Aires International Book Fair—its 50th edition—and the latest books I picked up there.

Bueno, para empezar la feria duró 3 semanas en total y yo habré ido unas 4 veces. La primera vez como parte de las Jornadas Profesionales donde el lugar todavía no está abierto al público general, solo para profesionales de la industria, prensa y creadores de contenido. Es genial porque hay charlas interesantes y encuentros con escritores y personas de la industria, además de que podes recorrer mejor los pasillos sin tanta gente. Es una de mis partes favoritas. Ese día compré 2 libros con promociones y ofertas.

Well, to start with, the fair lasted a total of three weeks, and I went about four times. The first time was during the Professional Days, when the venue isn’t yet open to the general public—only to industry professionals, the press, and content creators. It’s great because there are interesting talks and meet-and-greets with authors and industry insiders, plus you can explore the aisles more easily without so many people around. It’s one of my favorite parts. That day I bought two books on sale.

Faustine es el primer libro de una trilogía sobre romance histórico. Lo tengo en la mira hace un tiempo, lo único que me frenaba es que es una trilogía y ahora tendré que comprar los otros dos. Podría haberlos adquirido a todos, pero prefiero ver si me gusta antes de arriesgarme a comprarlos.

Faustine is the first book in a historical romance trilogy. I’ve had my eye on it for a while, but the only thing holding me back is that it’s a trilogy, and now I’ll have to buy the other two. I could have bought them all, but I’d rather see if I like it before taking a chance on buying them.

El otro fue totalmente impulsivo, justo estaba mirando una mesa de libros en oferta y me encontré con varios libros de esta serie de perros, me iba a comprar el primero, pero vi este y llamó mi atención porque hace unos años compré uno y pensé que este era el mismo con una portada diferente, y no, es la continuación de ese. Así que lo compré porque no sabía que tenía una segunda parte y quería leerla.

The other one was a total impulse buy. I was just browsing a table of books on sale when I came across several books in this series about dogs. I was going to buy the first one, but then I saw this one and it caught my eye because I’d bought one a few years ago and thought this was the same book with a different cover—but no, it’s the sequel to that one. So I bought it because I didn’t know there was a second book and I wanted to read it.

Después fui un sábado, ese día quería asistir a unas charlas que me llamaban la atención. Lo hice y, además, seguí recorriendo la feria y conociendo a personas que aman los libros tanto como yo. También compré un libro, esta edición integral de Narnia. Es decir, tiene todos los libros de la saga en uno solo y a precio casi regalado. Son 7 libros al precio de 1, una ganga en verdad. Era una de esas oportunidades de ahora o nunca, hice bien en comprarlo porque se agotó enseguida. La cuestión es si pensaba leer Narnia en algún momento de mi vida, bueno, no estaba en mis planes, pero ahora tendré que hacerlo.

Then I went on a Saturday; that day I wanted to attend some talks that caught my eye. I did just that, and I also kept wandering around the fair and meeting people who love books as much as I do. I also bought a book—this complete edition of The Chronicles of Narnia. I mean, it has all the books in the series in one volume, and at a price that’s practically a steal. It’s seven books for the price of one—a real bargain. It was one of those now-or-never opportunities; I was right to buy it because it sold out right away. The question is whether I ever planned to read Narnia at some point in my life—well, it wasn’t in my plans, but now I’ll have to.

Luego asistí un domingo, ese día no me encontraba muy bien, pero quise ir porque firmaba libros una escritora que quería conocer y me había invitado a que vaya. Por lo que no quise dejar de ir, así que lo hice. La conocí y me firmó uno de sus libros, un encanto de persona, solo la conocía por redes sociales, pero me reconoció enseguida cuando me vio y fue muy dulce. Espero comprar su último libro pronto. Ya que estaba allí, di algunas vueltas más y me metí a otra charla. Ese día no compré nada, pero igual la pasé bien pese al malestar.

Then I went one Sunday. I wasn’t feeling very well that day, but I wanted to go because an author I’d been wanting to meet was signing books, and she’d invited me to come. I didn’t want to miss it, so I went. I met her and she signed one of her books for me; she was such a lovely person. I only knew her from social media, but she recognized me right away when she saw me and was very sweet. I hope to buy her latest book soon. Since I was there, I walked around a bit more and stopped by another talk. I didn’t buy anything that day, but I still had a good time despite feeling under the weather.

Y, por último, fui un miércoles con amigos. Hasta ese entonces había ido sola, pero la verdad es que siempre se disfruta más en compañía. La pasé muy bien ese día, hice más que nada de guía porque yo sabía dónde estaba cada cosa al haber estado antes y mis amigos no. Casi me compro un par de libros más, pero al final me contuve, igual siempre me arrepiento después jajaja. Mi pasión son los libros y es como que no me di ese capricho, pero bueno, ya tenía muchos gastos y no es que estén precisamente baratos, aunque había muy buenas promociones este año, para otra oportunidad será. Mi amiga si adquirió un libro.

And finally, I went on a Wednesday with some friends. Up until then, I’d always gone alone, but honestly, it’s always more fun with company. I had a great time that day; I mostly acted as a guide since I knew where everything was—having been there before—and my friends didn’t. I almost bought a couple more books, but in the end I held back; I always end up regretting it later anyway, ha ha ha. Books are my passion, and I kind of didn’t treat myself, but well, I’d already spent a lot, and they aren’t exactly cheap—even though there were some great deals this year. Maybe next time. My friend did buy a book.

Bueno amigos, eso es todo lo que les quería compartir. Ahora tengo 3 libros nuevos y uno que cuenta x7 jajaja, sumado a los que tengo sin leer todavía. Así que hay para entretenerme, ya les iré trayendo mi opinión a medida que los vaya leyendo. Por lo pronto, les debo una reseña y ahora ando leyendo otros dos libros más.
