Si sos amante de las conspiraciones religiosas este libro es un buen candidato para dejar atrás el presente y sumergirte en una historia que te va a dejar con la boca abierta. Realmente es extraordinaria y vale la pena leerla. Debido a que demasiados spoilers van a descubrir el corazón del libro, voy a tratar de presentarlo lo mejor posible sin incurrir en este pecado.
Good afternoon, Hive friends! If you love religious conspiracies, this book is a great choice for leaving the present behind and immersing yourself in a story that will leave you speechless. It really is extraordinary and well worth reading. Since too many spoilers would give away the heart of the book, I will try to present it as best I can without committing this sin.
La gloria del olivo (o El papa rojo) es una de las historias con trama religiosa que más me han gustado y la primera que leí y me llevó por el camino de conocer a otros autores, como Dan Brown. Sin embargo, en mi opinión, me parece que todos los libros de este autor quedan pequeños al lado de este. El libro cayó en mis manos desde la biblioteca familiar, herencia de mi mamá. Y me llamó mucho su sinopsis, yo tengo la edición de 1992 en castellano, que no era más que esta:
The Glory of the Olive Tree (or The Red Pope) is one of my favorite religious stories and the first one I read that led me down the path of discovering other authors, such as Dan Brown. However, in my opinion, I think all of this author's other books pale in comparison to this one. The book fell into my hands from the family library, a legacy from my mother. I was very drawn to its synopsis. I have the 1992 edition in Spanish, which was simply this:
"Sería un mal servicio al lector desvelar el argumento de La gloria del olivo, al igual que sucede con los Caballos de Troya y La rebelión de Lucifer, se nos antoja casi un sacrilegio. Do not look for a summary of the book that—apparently by chance—has fallen into your hands. Rome, Coimbra, Brighton, Paris, Geneva... these are some of the settings for what—at first glance—will seem to you to be the fruit of a prodigious imagination. Judge for yourself. Perhaps, in the end, you will no longer be so sure. What is certain is that the author—true to his peculiar style—went so far as to risk his own physical integrity, provoking his arrest by the Rome police... “for the sake of the script.” And one last observation. Con semejante sinopsis entenderán que la curiosidad de cualquiera se despierta. No me decepcionó, sino que lo estoy leyendo ya por tercera vez. A quien me conoce sabe que disfruto mucho releyendo libros, porque me parece que se entiende mejor con la segunda lectura, sobre todo en este tipo de trama tan compleja y extensa. Se descubre por primer vez miles de detalles y conexiones que al principio no se vieron y se puede analizar mejor la complejidad de la escritura del autor.
With such a synopsis, you can understand how anyone's curiosity would be piqued. I was not disappointed; in fact, I am reading it for the third time. Those who know me know that I really enjoy rereading books, because I find that you understand them better on a second reading, especially with such a complex and extensive plot. You discover thousands of details and connections that you didn't see at first, and you can better analyze the complexity of the author's writing.
La gloria del olivo es un libro escrito de manera minuciosa y con el perfeccionismo de un escritor que llega a obsesionarse con el libro, al punto de meterse él mismo en la trama como si fuera un personaje más. En la trama podemos ver dos historias paralelas, una dentro de la otra, comenzando con la primera en tiempo real en la cual narra la vida dentro del Vaticano y el descubrimiento del cuerpo del Papa en una capilla privada por parte de una monja. Casi de inmediato vemos las luchas internas, políticas y de poder que suceden en la Iglesia Romana, al descubrir ciertos “indicios” de que algo oscuro se oculta en aquellas paredes. Las primeras preguntas emergen a la luz: ¿muerte accidental o asesinato?
The Glory of the Olive Tree is a book written with the meticulousness and perfectionism of a writer who becomes obsessed with the book, to the point of inserting himself into the plot as if he were another character. In the plot, we see two parallel stories, one within the other, beginning with the first in real time, which narrates life inside the Vatican and the discovery of the Pope's body in a private chapel by a nun. Almost immediately, we see the internal, political, and power struggles that take place in the Roman Church, as certain “clues” are discovered that something dark is hidden within those walls. The first questions come to light: accidental death or murder?

The second story begins when the captain of Rome's Homicide Division finds a red diary under the body of the deceased Pope. This diary recounts a plot carried out by a secret organization called The Three Circles to bring about the Pope's resignation. Then “Gloria Olivae” is set in motion.
Desde este momento, un complejo grupo de hechos comienzas a mezclarse, donde varias historias se narran y comienzan a empujar la maquinaria vaticana para hacer que el Papa renuncie. Es un libro para leer con atención y paciencia, ya que el nivel de detalle es alto. Sin embargo, el final es monumental.
From this moment on, a complex series of events begins to unfold, with several stories being told and the Vatican machinery being set in motion to force the Pope to resign. This is a book to be read carefully and patiently, as it is highly detailed. However, the ending is monumental.
