Last night I finished Au Crépuscule by Jaap Robben. It's the French translation of a Dutch book (original title Schemerleven). It's available in English under the title Afterlight. I really enjoyed it. It's the story of a woman in her eighties, just after the death of her husband, looking back on her first love (and it's consequences). I must admit to shedding a tear on reading the final paragraph.
Today I'm starting the short book The Murderess by the Greek author Alexandros Papadiamantis, translated by Peter Levi*.
I picked this book up at our local second hand shop (although most books there are in French, there is a reasonable sized English section). I don't know anything about it, or the author (other than what I read on the back cover)
Both pictures were taken by me, just now!
