Para considerarme amante de la lectura debo confesar que tenía mucho tiempo sin comprarme un libro. Hoy por la mañana me encontraba haciendo unas diligencias, preguntando por algunas cosas por el centro de Barquisimeto y justo pasé frente a una de las librerías más longevas de la ciudad, de hecho, es una de las pocas librerías que quedan. Entré a ver un poco sus estantes, mirar a ver si podría encontrar un libro de filosofía, ese siempre es mi objetivo.
Hace años leí un artículo que enunciaba las ciudades con más librerías por habitante en el mundo, y también mencionaba que gentilicios leen más libros por año. Venezuela no estaba en los índices mencionados por el artículo, en realidad no era algo que me asombrara demasiado, pero si es un poco decepcionante. En mi ciudad, ubicada al centro occidente del país, y que en teoría es una de las ciudades principales de la nación, no hay demasiadas librerías, cada vez hay menos.
To consider myself a lover of reading, I must confess that I had a long time without buying a book. Today in the morning I was running some errands, asking for some things in downtown Barquisimeto and I just passed in front of one of the oldest bookstores in the city, in fact, it is one of the few bookstores left. Years ago I read an article that listed the cities with the most bookstores per inhabitant in the world, and also mentioned which cities read the most books per year. Venezuela was not in the indexes mentioned by the article, actually it was not something that amazed me too much, but it is a little disappointing. In my city, located in the center west of the country, and which in theory is one of the main cities of the nation, there are not too many bookstores, there are less and less.
Creo que no sobrepasamos las 10 librerías en la ciudad y eso me hace pensar en la poca cultura que hay en torno a la lectura. Pero eso es tema de otra ocasión. En esta oportunidad quiero contarles que visité una librería ubicada en el centro de la ciudad. Aunque deseaba un libro de filosofía, terminé comprando una novela de Miguel de Unamuno, quizá no estoy muy alejado de la filosofía ya que este autor español se dedicó a la escritura en una amplia variedad de matices, no se quedó en un solo género.
Escribió poesía, ensayos, teatro y novelas. No es la primera vez que leo a Unamuno, de hecho, me gusta la literatura española de los siglos XIX y XX, pero, no había leído esta novela. Que lleva por título “Niebla”. Apenas terminé de leer este texto, se los comentaré por aquí, eso no lo pongan en duda.

Tenía meses sin echarle un vistazo a la librería España, que realmente me gusta porque puedes encontrar textos recién publicados como ediciones antiguas, puedes encontrar libros nuevos o usados, en esta librería he encontrado promociones que en verdad no me lo creo. Hace unos años compré un diccionario de griego antiguo que andaba buscando por tan solo unos 2 dólares al cambio en mi moneda nacional, era usado pero estaba en muy buen estado. Siempre he pensado que cuando menos te lo esperas puedes encontrarte joyas literarias.
Esta novela que compré hoy es un texto cuya edición fue impreso por la editorial “Sarpe” en el año 1984 es decir que este texto es más viejo que yo, sus hojas ya de un color amarillento típico de libros viejos, pero, estaba en su empaque plástico como si nunca hubiese sido leído y tan solo me costó $1 al cambio en mi moneda nacional.

This novel that I bought today is a text whose edition was printed by the publishing house "Sarpe" in 1984, that is to say that this text is older than me, its pages already of a yellowish color typical of old books, but, it was in its plastic packaging as if it had never been read and it only cost me $1 at the exchange rate in my national currency.

Pienso que la cantidad de librerías nos puede dar un indicio de lo mucho o poco que lean las personas de la zona, aunque no es algo con una relación directa ya que es algo más especulativo, creo que es un factor importante que debemos considerar, o por lo menos es algo que me gusta pensar, creo que soy un adicto a las librerías.
