There are many biographies that have generated controversy, but few have managed to create as much excitement as Spare, the memoirs of Prince Harry of England. Here is a review of this and other memoirs.
Biographies of historical figures have always been very interesting and enlightening. I have always found the genre exciting and I count myself among the millions of fans who, through the lines of a good book, know the details of the lives of those we admire. Now, however, celebrities and society figures are the ones who want to tell their story or their memories through autobiographies.
These biographies always have some sordid detail that creates some sort of controversy and no matter how hard we try, it is always these parts that get all our attention. For example, the latest such controversy has been created by Prince Harry's biography. Written entirely by J. R. Moehringer, a writer who made a name for himself with his autobiography, ever since it was announced that the prince was going to publish his memoirs, we knew we were going to have a lot of drama in the British royal household.
The controversy was not long in coming. Details about the fights with his brother Prince William, the death of his mother, all the harassment he suffered with his wife Meghan in the UK, and the disagreements with his stepmother Camilla Parker Bowles, flood the pages of his biography. More than a few people criticized his memoirs. And the fact is that the Prince, who for years felt like the spare or the second in line to the throne, seems to be far removed from the problems of us mortals. The latter has not seemed to matter to the public.
The anger towards Prince Harry comes down to this…

It is not the King who is man enough to protect his wife & family at all costs.
It is not the future King.
But rather the Spare who is man enough to fight for his country, his wife, his freedom.

'Spare', has managed to become number 1 in sales, thanks to a host of hitherto unknown details of the life of Lady Diana's son. He did it after almost three decades since his mother published her memoirs in the controversial 'Diana: Her True Story' written by Andrew Morton and that, at that time, in 1992, made the royals reel with the details of her relationship with the now king, Prince Charles. The formula seems inexhaustible, you say you are going to write your biography, you reveal little by little the most interesting details that you know will be talked about and you sit back and wait for your book to sell like hotcakes.
But it's not just royalty who have things to tell. Woody Allen also gave a lot to talk about after he announced he was going to publish his memoirs. However, although he waited 6 years to do so after his daughter accused him of sexual abuse and his publisher refused to publish his book, 'Apropos of Nothing' saw the light on the market in 2020. His candor, cynicism, and narrative made this a great biography.
Matthew Perry, the unforgettable Chandler from Friends, also wanted to publish his memoirs through a biography that promised to cause a stir. Friend, lovers and the big terrible thing' is the title of the book about his life where, among other things, he talked about his addiction problems, his most stormy relationships, and his dramatic weight gain, through black, sincere, and quiet entertaining humor.
Someone should gift this book to #شيرين_عبدالوهاب so she can fully understand the power of addictions. A raw and honest biography of the man that made us laugh but was struggling with addictions. @MatthewPerry thank you for the laughs & thank u for sharing your journey with us. pic.twitter.com/mxkTaeEyOG

In sports, there are also shocking biographies that raised a flood of controversy. André Agassi, the American tennis legend, earned the criticism of the greats of the sport after revealing in his biography 'Open' that he had consumed methamphetamines during a tournament in 1997. However, his memoirs have aged well since their publication in 2009, becoming an inspiring book that promises to take us into a universe of conflict and self-destructive attitudes. Having been practically forced to play tennis since he was a child is the main ingredient for this bombshell of contemporary literature.
Pamela Anderson will also present her biography entitled 'Love, Pamela' in which Sylvester Stallone and Jack Nicholson come off badly. The sexy blonde and sex symbol of the eighties and nineties has given so much to talk about that this book is expected to pass the sales of Prince Harry's 'Spare'. This accompanied by a documentary soon to be released by Netflix, are the prelude to what is perhaps the most anticipated book of the year.
Whatever these celebrities tell, (of which I'm sure I've fallen short in naming all the celebrity biographies), there will always be an audience with a voracious hunger to know the details of the lives of those who are surrounded by luxury and live lives out of the ordinary.
