Hello everyone!
Three days ago, I attended a winter book event where, in addition to the book fair, there were interesting meetings with Ukrainian writers and a cosplay show.
Kyiv Book Weekend was held under the slogan 'Read, Restore, Grow'.
I visited this book fair to familiarize myself with novelty books and to buy Christmas presents for kids. I think you will agree with me that a book is always a great gift.
A festive New Year's atmosphere prevailed at every book stand. Many publishing houses placed large banners for the photo zone.
On one of the banners was a recognizable illustration from the cover of the book 'The Snow Queen' by Hans Christian Andersen from the leading Ukrainian children's publishing house, A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA.
This book is like a visiting card for A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA Publishing House in the international book world. It was illustrated by the famous Ukrainian book graphic artist Vladyslav Yerko. In 2006, the Andersen House Foundation (USA) recognized the Ukrainian edition of 'The Snow Queen' as the best children's book of the year.
I flipped through children's books on the Christmas theme with incredible enthusiasm. They are all so bright, with incredibly warm stories and cute illustrations. I chose as a gift the novelty book of December 2023, a children's book dedicated to the most famous Ukrainian folk song, 'Shchedryk'. It is known in the world as 'Carol of the Bells'. 'Shchedryk' was first performed at Carnegie Hall on October 5, 1922. I will write a small review of this book here soon.
So, I bought five children's books at the Kyiv Book Weekend. I hope young readers will enjoy them.
The festive mood at the Kyiv Book Weekend was also created by cosplayers in costumes of favorite comic characters who participated in the cosplay show. I managed to take a few shots of some of them. I am glad that Ukrainian teenagers have the opportunity to realize themselves creatively, uniting around their favorite books and comics. It is great!
Even though a full-scale war has been going on in my country for the second year in a row, we continue to publish and read books. Because knowledge fills people with goodness and light.
Thanks for your support. Stay with Ukraine.
