Yesterday, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a reel advert for an app. I was interested in it because it was about books. I quickly downloaded it to check it out, and I totally don’t regret it. Usually, I’d just scroll past like other ads I see, but this one caught my eye because it was about books. If you’ve been following my posts in the community, you know I’ve always wanted to grow my reading habits, and I just felt this app was something I’d appreciate – and I really do.
Thanks to this app, I read a summary of a book by Brené Brown titled DARE TO LEAD, and I’m going to share my thoughts on the book with you too. I’m more into self-help books because I believe I’m at that point in my life when I need all the common-sense kind of knowledge I can get. There are so many things I face daily that I’m sure aren’t new to someone out there, and that’s why these books are always my go-to.
Dare to Lead is a book that talks about some key things that can help us navigate leadership and become better leaders. I particularly like this book because it stresses something I have always believed, but no one around me seems to completely buy into the idea – and that is how vulnerability builds trust. This book explains exhaustively how we can build trust by being vulnerable and how trust, in turn, makes us vulnerable. It shows how the two work hand in hand to bring out the best in us, even though on the surface it doesn’t seem that way.
Usually, we’d rather hide away in the face of difficulties, disappointment, and fear. But Brown, in her book, tells us how we can overcome that fear with courage. She explains that courage isn’t hiding our fears but acknowledging them and still showing up anyway. Often, as leaders, when we face tough times, we think hiding in our shells or staying in our comfort zones is best, but that’s just the easy way out. Choosing the hard way is what courage is really about.
This is a book I think everyone should read because I believe we are all leaders in one way or another. We don’t have to own a big company or be the best at everything to be leaders. In our daily lives, we constantly find ourselves in positions where we have to act as leaders, and this book gives you just the right insight for those situations.
I’ll give this book a 4.8/5 rating, and that’s because it kept me hooked from start to end despite the distractions around me while I was reading it.
Let me know if you’ve also read the book or would love to add it to your reading list!
Thank you for reading through. 💜
