I have to admit that when I first read it, I really disliked Harry because he complained about everything and everyone and was always so angry, but now I see him in a different light—first, because I understand his situation, and second, because I’m going through a pretty tough time in my own life. He’s a very brave boy for standing firm in his truth, even if it means facing Umbridge’s punishments. That woman really is such a detestable character.

This book is packed with detail and features so many scenes where, as you read, you genuinely feel like our protagonists are in mortal danger. There are so many details you wouldn’t have imagined, and overall, I think it’s a good book that explores how Harry is moving more toward adolescence and has all these questions that no one seems willing to answer. One of the things I like most about this series is that all the characters are gray—some with darker shades of gray than others—but, in the end, they’re all gray. I really like the fact that we don’t have a 100% good and upright protagonist like we saw in the movies, but rather a person who feels anger and asks questions—and throws tantrums, if you will—and I think this makes Harry feel human.
En este libro hay muchísimo detalle y muchísimos escenarios en los que a medida que vas leyendo, en serio sientes que nuestros protagonistas están en peligro mortal. Hay mucho detalle que uno no se hubiera imaginado y en general, me parece un buen libro en el que se explora como Harry va pasando mas hacia la adolescencia y tiene todas estas preguntan que al parecer nadie quiere responderle. Una de las cosas que mas me gustan de esta saga es que, todos los personajes son grises, unos con unos grises mas oscuros que otros pero, al final, son grises. Me gusta mucho el hecho de que no tenemos un protagonista 100% bueno y recto como vimos en las películas, sino que es una persona que siente rabia y hace preguntas, y berrinches si lo queremos llamar así, creo que este hecho hace que Harry se sienta humano.
I also really like the part where Harry sees Snape’s past and realizes that his father wasn’t the hero he always thought he was; he starts to feel empathy for Snape (though I have my reservations about this character—I’ll talk more about that later) even as he hates him, and he sets out to find answers as to why his father behaved the way he did.
