Hello everyone, I wanted to share that a few days ago, while chatting with one of my sister's friends, I started noticing the various books my father usually reads in the afternoons and evenings. To my surprise, I came across one that caught my eye. Since I'd previously written a short review of another book by the same author, I must say I felt a bit nostalgic for my fondness for books with that vintage look, and also excited because I couldn't find another copy of it at home. So, taking this opportunity, I'll tell you a little about "The Door of Destiny" by Agatha Christie.
Hola a todos, les comento que hace unos días, mientras estaba hablando con uno de los amigos de mi hermana, me puse curiosamente a percatarme de los diversos libros que suele leer mi padre en las tardes y noches y, para mi sorpresa, me encontré con uno que llamó mi atención. Puesto que en anteriores posts había realizado una breve reseña acerca de otro ejemplar de la misma autora, debo decir que sentí un poco de nostalgia por mi gusto a los libros con esa apariencia antigua y también emoción porque no encontré otro ejemplar de estos en mi casa, por lo que, aprovechando la oportunidad, les mostraré un poco sobre "La puerta del destino" de Agatha Christie.
This book, curiously the last novel written by Agatha Christie, and belonging to the familiar genre of detective fiction, was published in 1963, marking the end of the adventures of detectives Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. I must say that, although my edition is from the Molino publishing house and printed in Spain, I find the cover design, by Margaret Murray, quite beautiful—one of those images that conveys a stately yet elegant feel, perfectly suited to the theme and the era in which it was published. Furthermore, the back cover makes a reference to the works of Martha Grimes, suggesting a similar setting to this world of detective novels.
Este ejemplar, siendo curiosamente la última novela escrita por la escritora Agatha Christie, y con el tan acostumbrado género de novela policial y ficción de detectives, fue publicado en el año 1963, siendo esta el final de las aventuras de los detectives Tommy y Tuppence Beresford. Debo decir que, aunque esta edición que tengo es por parte de la editorial Molino e impresa en España, su diseño en la portada, el cual es por Margaret Murray, siento que a mi vista se me hizo algo lindo, de esas imágenes que transmiten algo señorial pero elegante y que siento va muy bien con la temática, así como de los años en los que se publicó. Así mismo, en la parte de atrás hace una mención a obras de la escritora Martha Grimes a modo de que encontremos un escenario similar a lo que es este mundo de novelas de detectives.
It also has an internal page dedicated to all the works of Agatha Christie, which I must say is excellent. I'm surprised by the sheer number of novels, and it serves as a guide for learning more about them and, of course, placing them more easily. It's also a great reader's guide to avoid getting lost in curious or unfamiliar terms. Although I've been reading it little by little, mainly because my father hasn't finished it yet so he can dedicate the time it deserves, this book is simply invaluable. Just knowing it's the author's last novel gives me that feeling of wanting to get the others. Of course, this is from my perspective as someone who enjoys collecting books, and these cases and mysteries are simply a source of reading fascination.
También internamente tiene una página dedicada a todas las obras de la escritora Agatha Christie, que debo decir me es muy buena, ya que me sorprende la cantidad de novelas y así me es como una guía para saber más de estas y, por supuesto, ubicarlas mejor, así como también una gran guía del lector para no perdernos en términos curiosos o poco conocidos. Y es que, aunque como tal lo he leído de a poco, más que todo porque mi padre aún no lo termina de leer para que así pueda dedicarle el tiempo que se merece, este libro simplemente es muy valioso porque, al simplemente saber que es el último de la autora, hace como esa sensación de querer conseguir los demás, claro, desde mi punto de vista de que me gusta coleccionar y estos casos y misterios son simplemente fascinación lectora.
I really like the premise of this story, because it's all about the "how." Even though they're retired, the detectives are drawn back into action, not out of obligation, but simply out of a thirst for knowledge and a desire to investigate. And, more than anything, in this case, it's to uncover a murder connected to the owner of their new home. It's like wanting to know what happened before they moved in, even though it's not strictly necessary, but as detectives, they can't ignore it. So, I'll gradually reveal this plot as you read on. Me gusta mucho la idea de esta historia, ya que es en sí el cómo, ya que, aunque estuvieran retirados, los detectives vuelven a la acción y no por una obligación, sino por el simple sentido del saber y buscar y, más que todo, en este caso, por descubrir un asesinato que tiene que ver con quién era el dueño de su reciente hogar. Es como querer saber qué pasó antes de que llegaran a habitarla, aun cuando en sí no es necesario, pero como detectives no pueden dejarlo de lado. Así que, bueno, mientras iré poco a poco develando con la lectura esta trama, así que sin más y esperando sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
