Hi Everyone,
Today I came to you with a post. Today I wanted to make a different post so I was looking for a different community so that I could post there and after searching I found it. I am going to post a community where you can give your opinion only on books. You can tell me about how the book is and its story here. The name of my book is The Elegant Universe This book is written by Brian Greene and this book was published in 2009. You can read this book if you want. I hope you will like today's post.
Book Story
Green brings us to the beginning of the 20 th century when the theory of relativity was found out by Einstein. This theory demonstrated that the bending of spacetime which leads to gravity is actually the result. Instead quantum mechanics describes the behaviour of small particles, e.g. electrons or photons. However, these two theories are impossible to merge. Therefore scientists needed something to go by where they would find a theory that would stand as the foundation of all. It is referred to as the Theory of Everything.
Green then describes the way the string theory works. In this theory, the smallest things in the universe are not dots, but, they are small vibrating strings or wires. As these wires vibrate differently, other particles are formed e.g. electrons vibrate differently to quarks. Even the way of the graviton can be explained by the theory, which indicates how to unite quantum mechanics and relativity. A key element in the case of the string theory is that it postulates six or even seven dimensions of light or extra dimensions besides the three that we are familiar with in space. These dimensions cannot be seen by our eyes since they are minute to a level that we are not able to touch.
The final section of the book tells how this theory emerged and what problems were experienced. String theory is also not demonstrated yet and this is due to failure in testing these dimensions. Nevertheless, its beauty, and the potential is so profound that many scientists perceive it as the most probable of the unified theories of everything, the so-called Theory of Everything. He also writes about one more theory denominated as M-theory which is expanded form of string theory. In this case it will be assumed that what plays a part in the structure of the world are not strings but also membranes or 2-dimensional surfaces.
My Explanation
The Elegant Universe written by Brian Greene aims at making the modern physics simple and understandable to a general audience it is a magnificent effort. The single strain in the book is string theory which tries to establish a bridge between quantum mechanics and theory of relativity created by Einstein. These two theories are what we base everything on understanding the universe but they have clashed all through the years. Greene also introduces the concept of the string theory which can be one of the keys to the solution of that conflict. The other unexpected detail of the book is extra dimension that the string theory demands. Besides the three local dimensions which we are aware of, the string theory has six or seven other dimensions but they are too small that we cannot see them. This is not only a science concept that is interesting but it also makes the reader imagine.
The language used by Green is simple and at times humorous. He does not leave the reader stranded by using formulas or equations. Instead he narrates to us the profound theories of science as a story. But there are rather difficult chapters in the middle of the book when the complicated properties of the string theory are explained. Overall, The Elegant Universe is a great piece of beauty and science potential. It is not a simple brochure about string theory, it is a tremendous picture of science, where human desire to know, imagination and history of experiments unite. This book will amaze you as long as you need to know a bit more about science. it will tell how mysterious is it and how "elegant" our universe is - with indescribable beauty being locked in each and every level of it.
That's it for today!I appreciate your time and attention. At the end of this post, you can comment and let me know how you liked my post and if you have any questions, I will try to answer them inshaAllah. I hope you like it. See you soon..
