It is not just reading for the sake of reading... it is one of those that you feel with your skin, with your mind, with all your heart. Piedad Bonnett, a Colombian writer who knows a lot about philosophy and literature, put together a story that immerses you right into the life of Gabriel, a 32-year-old guy who ended up living on the streets, but be careful, it's not the typical story of a homeless man who becomes homeless... it's a journey through the head of someone who sent everything to hell, who was left alone, and who questions everything, but with a clarity that is scary... from the beginning, Gabriel feels like a weirdo, he doesn't fit in the world, it's that simple... and through how he himself tells you, you see how he sinks into a wave of total disconnection, leaving behind his family, what people expect of him, everything... it's not that he became homeless because of drugs or violence, no, no, Gabriel is like a philosopher, a guy who thinks and analyzes his own life while he walks around, on the fringes of everything, and that's what makes his story so brutal.

His philosopher's head doesn't make him a distant intellectual, but someone who has the tools to see reality in a different way, with a gaze that goes from total innocence to madness, just like that... the way the author writes, how beautiful! It's as if it flows, poetic, but without being heavy, with a wave that makes the story feel always in motion... and speaking of movement, the river is a symbol that hits you hard in the novel... it appears all the time, representing how life goes on, how experiences drag you along, the depth of emotions and, in the end, Gabriel's destiny... it's a detail that is perfect, that doesn't feel forced, and that gives incredible power to the story.

Hola a todos, queridos amigos lectores, espero que estén genial, n está ocasión, quiero hablarles de un libro que seguramente atrapará a más de uno, se traza de: "Donde nadie me espere".. es de esos libros que te llegan al corazón, no es solo leer por leer.. es de esos que sientes con la piel, con la mente, con todo el corazón. Piedad Bonnett, una escritora colombiana que sabe un montón de filosofía y literatura, se armó una historia que te sumerge de una en la vida de Gabriel, un tipo de 32 años que terminó viviendo en la calle, pero ojo, que no es la típica historia de un indigente que se vuelve toco.. es un viaje por la cabeza de alguien que mandó todo al carajo, que se quedó solo, y que se cuestiona todo, pero con una claridad que asusta.. desde el principio, Gabriel se siente como bicho raro, no encaja en el mundo, así de simple.. y a través de cómo él mismo te cuenta, vas viendo cómo se va hundiendo en una onda de desconexión total, dejando atrás a la familia, a lo que la gente espera de él, todo.. no es que se hizo indigente por drogas o violencia, no, no, Gabriel es como un filósofo, un tipo que piensa y analiza su propia vida mientras anda por ahí, al margen de todo, y eso es lo que hace que su historia sea tan brutal.

Su cabeza de filósofo no lo hace un intelectual lejano, sino alguien que tiene las herramientas para ver la realidad de otra manera, con una mirada que va de la inocencia total a la locura, así como así.. la forma en que escribe la autora, ¡qué belleza! Es como si fluyera, poética, pero sin ser pesada, con una onda que hace que la historia se sienta siempre en movimiento.. y hablando de movimiento, el río es un símbolo que te pega fuerte en la novela.. aparece a cada rato, representando cómo la vida sigue, cómo las experiencias te arrastran, la profundidad de las emociones y, al final, el destino de Gabriel.. es un detalle que queda perfecto, que no se siente forzado, y que le da un poder increíble a la historia.

Another theme explored in the book is how society looks at and judges people who live on the streets. A clear example is when Gabriel tries to return to society and is greeted with strange looks and rejection, as if living on the streets made him just another weirdo, and as if he didn't deserve any respect. Bonnett shows you that look full of prejudice, of false pity or total rejection, as readers, it puts you in an uncomfortable situation, it forces you to think about our own indifference, how we look the other way many times. How many times have we passed by someone on the street without even looking them in the eye? How many times have we thought that everyone has the same story?

There are no easy answers here, and that is precisely what makes this novel feel so real, so true, Gabriel also struggles with depression, something that society kind of ignores or downplays, right? His fight against the disease is quiet, almost no one notices it, but for him it is terrible. The book does not try to make suffering look nice, but rather it shows you raw, as it is. That is where disconnecting from everything and giving up on everything appear as life options.

Gabriel makes you think if we really need everything they tell us is important to be happy. What if sending everything to hell is also a valid way of living? Now, although I was fascinated by the book, there are some things that could have been better. The way the novel is put together is not linear, which makes it more interesting, but sometimes it feels a bit like it goes off on a tangent. Some people might be frustrated that there are no clear answers or that it is so inward-looking, so much thinking, but in the end, that is more a matter of taste than a real problem with the story.

Otro tema que se explora en el libro es cómo la sociedad mira y juzga a la gente que vive en la calle.. un ejemplo clarito es cuando Gabriel intenta volver a la sociedad y lo reciben con unas caras raras y un rechazo, como si por vivir en la calle ya fuera otro bicho raro, y como si no mereciera ningún respeto. Bonnett te muestra esa mirada llena de prejuicios, de lástima falsa o de rechazo total, como lectores, te pone en una situación incómoda, te obliga a pensar en nuestra propia indiferencia, en que miramos para otro lado muchas veces.. ¿Cuántas veces hemos pasado al lado de alguien en la calle sin ni siquiera mirarlo a los ojos? ¿Cuántas veces hemos pensado que todos tienen la misma historia

Acá no hay respuestas fáciles, y justo eso es lo que hace que esta novela se sienta tan real, tan de verdad, Gabriel también lucha con la depresión, algo que la sociedad como que ignora o le resta importancia, ¿no? su lucha contra la enfermedad es callada, casi nadie la nota, pero para él es terrible.. el libro no busca hacer ver el sufrimiento como algo lindo, sino que te lo muestra crudo, como es.. ahí es donde el desconectarse de todo y renunciar a todo aparece como opciones de vida.

Gabriel te hace pensar si de verdad necesitamos todo lo que nos dicen que es importante para ser felices. ¿Y si mandar todo al demonio es también una forma válida de vivir? Ahora, aunque el libro me fascinó, hay algunas cosillas que podrían haber estado mejor.. la forma en que está armada la novela no es lineal, lo que la hace más interesante, pero a veces se siente un poco como que se va por las ramas.. a algunos quizás les frustre que no haya respuestas claras o que sea tan metido para adentro, tan de pensar mucho, pero al final, eso ya es más cuestión de gustos que un problema real de la historia.

If you like books that leave you thinking for a while after finishing them, those that show you life as it is, without makeup or anything, this book is for you. I'm sure that with this one you're going to feel something similar, that deep and existential wave, do you understand me? If you like literature that plays with the line between sanity and madness, that talks about strong themes like pain, dignity and hopelessness, but without falling into cheap drama, "Donde nadie me espera" is your book. I'm going to give it a... 4.7 out of 5 stars... in the end, the title says it all, right? Si te gustan los libros que te dejan pensando un buen rato después de terminarlos, esos que te muestran la vida como es, sin maquillaje ni nada, este libro es para ti, seguro que con este vas a sentir algo parecido, esa onda profunda y existencial, ¿me entiendes? Si te gusta la literatura que juega con la línea entre la cordura y la locura, que habla de temas fuertes como el dolor, la dignidad y la desesperanza, pero sin caer en el drama barato, "Donde nadie me espere" es tu libro. Le voy a dar un... 4.7/5 estrellas.. al final, el título lo dice todo, ¿no?
