Hello everyone, friends of the Hive Book Club, I hope you're doing great today. On this occasion, I want to talk about a book that was recommended to me a lot—like, a lot—so I was hesitant. I'm sure some of you get a little suspicious, right? Like... is it really all that? I kept seeing all the hype for the next book in this series and realized I hadn't even read the first one. So, the other day I saw When in Rome by Sarah Adams at the bookstore and just said, "that's it," I gave in. My plan was to give it a little taste, and if I liked it, I'd let myself get excited about what was to come. Well, people... I have to tell you, this book completely won me over. I mean, it's a real gem. Okay, let's start with the plot, because it's pure romantic comedy gold. We have Amelia, who is a pop megastar—think someone on Taylor Swift's level.

The thing is, she's completely exhausted, without a drop of inspiration, and, in short, burned out by her career and the horrible relationship she has with her mom, who is also her manager. In the midst of her crisis, she remembers her favorite movie, Roman Holiday, and a lightbulb goes off: she needs to escape. But since going to Italy is a bit complicated, she gets in her car and drives to the closest thing she can find: Rome, Kentucky. Obviously, in pure Saturday afternoon movie fashion, her car breaks down right on the outskirts of town... and guess where? In the front yard of a handsome baker named Noah. And that, folks, is where it all begins. Look, the first thing that hits you about this book is how cozy it is.

Sarah Adams' writing is... wow, so smooth; you get lost in the story without even realizing it. It's funny, it's sweet, it has heart, and everything flows so well that before you know it, you've read a hundred pages in one go. The whole book leaves you with that "sweet as a little dessert" feeling, which is also perfect because Noah, our leading man, owns a bakery! The story is filled with delicious references to his cakes, his pancakes... which only makes everything feel even more cozy and heartwarming. It's one of those books you want to read with a coffee, snuggled under a blanket on a cool day. It truly leaves your heart happy.

Hola a todos, amigos de Hive Book Club, espero que les estén super bien hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero hablar de un libro que me recomendaron mucho, pero mucho, y entonces estaba dudando.. seguro una parte de ustedes se pone medio desconfiada, ¿no? Como que... ¿será para tanto? seguía viendo todo el hype por el siguiente libro de esta saga y caí en cuenta de que ni siquiera había leído el primero.. así que nada, el otro día vi When in Rome de Sarah Adams en la librería y dije: "ya fue", me rendí.. mi plan era darle una probadita y, si me gustaba, pues ya me dejaba emocionar con lo que viniera. Bueno, gente... les tengo que decir que este libro me compró por completo.. o sea, una joyita.

A ver, empecemos con la trama, porque es que es oro puro de comedia romántica, tenemos a Amelia, que es una megaestrella de pop, piensen en alguien nivel Taylor Swift.. la cosa es que está agotadísima, sin una gota de inspiración y, para resumir, quemadísima por su carrera y la relación horrible que tiene con su mamá, que también es su mánager, en medio de su crisis, se acuerda de su peli favorita, Vacaciones en Roma, y se le prende el foco: necesita escaparse. Pero como irse a Italia está un poquito complicado, se monta en su carro y maneja a lo más parecido que encuentra: Rome, en Kentucky.. obvio, en el más puro estilo de peli de sábado por la tarde, el carro se le daña justo a las afueras del pueblo... y adivinen dónde, pues en el jardín de un panadero guapísimo que se llama Noah.. ahí, señores, arranca todo.. miren, lo primero que te pega de este libro es lo acogedor que es.

La forma en que escribe Sarah Adams es... uff, súper fluida, te pierdes en la historia sin darte cuenta, es divertida, es tierna, tiene corazón, y todo fluye tan bien que cuando ves, ya te leíste cien páginas de un tirón.. todo el libro te deja esa sensación de "dulce como un postrecito", que además le va perfecto porque Noah, nuestro prota, ¡es dueño de una pastelería! La historia está llena de referencias deliciosas a sus pasteles, sus panqueques... que solo hacen que todo se sienta todavía más cozy y apapachable, es de esos libros que quieres leer con un cafecito, tapado con una manta en un día medio fresco.. de verdad, te deja el corazón contento.

And now, let's get to the characters, who, I swear, are the heart and soul of this book. Here we have the classic, the famous grumpy-sunshine trope—and it's executed to PER-FEC-TION. Noah is our grump, but mind you, he's not a jerk or a creep, which is sometimes the easy trap in these kinds of stories. He's more of a reserved guy, very much his own person, who deeply loves his quiet life, his town, and his family. On the outside, he seems a bit dry, but on the inside, he's a total sweetheart, truly. Then there's Amelia, who is pure light, a walking ray of sunshine. She's super cheerful, optimistic, and kind, but she's not a flat character at all. The girl is dealing with some serious burnout and is in the middle of a journey of self-discovery, beyond her fame. Seeing these two, who are polar opposites, together... it's just so endearing, you know?

And the best part is that the book is told from both of their points of view, so you get to see beyond the surface and get to know the real, vulnerable people underneath. Look, if there's one thing Sarah Adams does wonderfully, it's the slow burn. If you're looking for a book with explicit scenes, with smut, I'm letting you know this isn't it. It's a "closed-door" romance, meaning what happens, happens off-screen. BUT, let me tell you, the chemistry between them... wow, it leaps off the page! This woman is a queen at building that emotional connection and a tension you can almost touch, without having to show you anything. I'm one of those people who LOVE it when the relationship simmers slowly, when the whole journey is worth it. You know? When you're 200 pages in and suddenly one of them notices the color of the other's eyes for the first time, you feel like they've truly earned that relationship. They start as forced-proximity roommates, then "just friends," and from there, slowly and beautifully, they fall in love. What matters here is the emotional connection, and watching it blossom is, truly, a delight.

Y ahora sí, vamos a los personajes, que les juro, son el corazón y el alma de este libro.. aquí tenemos el clásico, el famosísimo cliché del grumpy sunshine —o sea, el amargado y la chica que es un rayo de sol— y está ejecutado a la PER-FEC-CIÓN, Noah es nuestro gruñón, pero ojo, no es un cretino ni un patán, que a veces es la trampa fácil de este tipo de historias. Él es, más bien, un tipo reservado, muy suyo, que ama con locura su vida tranquila, su pueblo y su familia.. por fuera se ve medio seco, pero por dentro es un pan de Dios, de verdad, luego está Amelia, que es pura luz, un solecito andante.. es súper alegre, optimista, buena onda, pero no es un personaje plano, para nada. La chica está lidiando con un burnout de los feos y está en plena búsqueda de sí misma, más allá de la fama.. ver a estos dos, que son polos opuestos, juntos... es que es una ternura, me entienden.

Y lo mejor es que el libro te lo cuentan los dos, desde sus puntos de vista, así que logras ver más allá de las apariencias y conoces a las personas reales y vulnerables que hay debajo, miren, si hay algo que Sarah Adams hace de maravilla es el slow burn, el romance a fuego lento.. si andan buscando un libro con escenas explícitas, con smut, les aviso que este no es.. es un romance de "puerta cerrada", o sea, lo que pasa, pasa detrás de cámaras. PERO, déjenme decirles que la química entre ellos... ¡ufff, se sale de las páginas! Esta mujer es una reina construyendo esa conexión emocional y una tensión que casi puedes tocar, sin tener que mostrarte nada.. yo soy de esos que AMAN cuando la relación se va cocinando poquito a poco, cuando todo ese camino vale la pena. ¿Saben? Cuando ya llevas 200 páginas y de repente uno de ellos se fija por primera vez en el color de sus ojos, sientes que esa relación se la ganaron.. empiezan como roomies a la fuerza, luego que "solo amigos", y de ahí, lenta y hermosamente, se enamoran.. aquí lo que importa es la conexión emocional, y ver cómo va naciendo es, de verdad, una delicia.

Okay, if I have to find one "but," just one, it's that I wish it were longer! It's just over 300 pages; I devoured it in no time and was left desperately wanting more of Amelia, Noah, and the whole world of Rome, Kentucky, which is a charming little town. But, get this! That's when I found out the best news of all: this is the first book in a four-part series! The other three will focus on Noah's sisters, which means we get to stay a little longer in this incredible place with these characters that, by this point, we already love. The fact that each book is inspired by a different Audrey Hepburn movie is, let's say, the cherry on top. So, who is this book for? Look, honestly, it's for almost everyone. If you love small-town romances, found family stories, the grumpy-falls-for-the-sunshine trope, or you simply want to read something well-written that will leave you feeling happy and with a warm heart, you have to read it.

It's perfect for fans of authors like Emily Henry or for anyone who loves that super cozy, community vibe of a series like Gilmore Girls. For me, it easily got 4.7/5 stars. The characters feel real, you'll get attached to them instantly, the romance is a masterclass in how to build slow-burn tension, and the author's writing is a delight. It's one of those stories that feels like a hug in book form. Seriously, do yourself a favor and get it. I promise you'll finish it with a smile from ear to ear. A ver, si le tengo que poner un "pero", uno solito, ¡es que ojalá fuera más largo! Es que tiene poco más de 300 páginas, me lo devoré en nada y me quedé con unas ganas tremendas de más de Amelia, de Noah y de todo el mundo de Rome, Kentucky, que es un pueblito encantador, pero, ¡agárrense!, porque ahí me enteré de la mejor noticia de todas: ¡este es el primer libro de una saga de cuatro! Los otros tres se van a enfocar en las hermanas de Noah, lo que significa que nos vamos a poder quedar un ratito más en este lugar increíble con estos personajes que ya, para este punto, amamos.. el hecho de que cada libro esté inspirado en una peli diferente de Audrey Hepburn es, digamos, la cereza del pastel.. entonces, ¿para quién es este libro? Miren, la neta, es para casi todo el mundo, si a ustedes les encantan los romances que pasan en pueblitos, las historias de found family o familia encontrada, el cliché del gruñón que se enamora del rayo de sol, o simplemente quieren leer algo bien escrito que los deje sintiéndose felices y con el corazón calientito, tienen que leerlo.

Es perfecto para los fans de autoras como Emily Henry o para cualquiera que ame esa vibra súper acogedora y de comunidad que tiene una serie como Gilmore Girls.. para mí, se llevó un 4.7/5 estrellas, facilito. Los personajes se sienten reales, te encariñas con ellos al toque, el romance es una clase maestra de cómo crear tensión a fuego lento y la pluma de la autora es una delicia, es una de esas historias que se sienten como un abrazo en forma de libro.. en serio, háganse un favor y consíganlo.. les prometo que van a terminar de leerlo con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja.. y hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, cuidense mucho!
