Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing great. This time I want to share with you all, dear Hive Book Club community, I want to talk to you about this graphic novel. Wow! It left me impressed. Ever since I read it, I felt like I was transported to another world, a world that breaks your heart but at the same time gives you incredible hope, do you understand? "When the Stars Are Scattered" by Victoria Jamison and Omar Mohamed... and pay attention, because this is based on real life, it is the autobiography of Omar, a boy from Senegal who loses his mother and ends up living in a refugee camp... imagine, in addition to all the anguish of living in those conditions, the poor guy has to take care of his younger brother, Hassan, who does not speak and suffers from seizures. This reality hits you hard, it makes you feel all the pain and struggle that these children live through.

And speaking of the story, it has a great rhythm, it unfolds super naturally, combining drawings that leave you breathless, full of life, with a direct text that immerses you headlong into Omar's world... there's a kind of gentle vibe, you know? Quiet moments of thought, mixed with others full of energy and the solidarity of the people who help each other in the midst of all the chaos. This mix of drawings and letters makes every moment, no matter how hard it is, feel real, but without overwhelming you. But what touched my heart the most was how real the characters are. Omar is not just a victim, no, he is shown with such real complexity that you can't help but feel connected to him, even when everything seems to be against him. His relationship with Hassan is super moving, you can feel the enormous weight he has on his shoulders and the internal struggle he has between taking care of his brother and following his dream of going to school. It's a very hard decision that reflects the ugly things that many children have to live through in refugee camps.

Hola a todos, espero que estén genial, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir con todos ustedes, querida comunidad de Hive Book Club, les quiero hablar de esta novela gráfica, ¡uff!, me dejó impresionado, desde que la leí, sentí como si me transportara a otro mundo, un mundo que te parte el alma, pero a la vez te da una esperanza increíble, ¿me entienden? "When the Stars Are Scattered " de Victoria Jamison y Omar Mohamed... y atención, porque esto es basado en la vida real, es la autobiografía de Omar, un niño de Senegal que pierde a su mamá y termina viviendo en un campo de refugiados.. imagínense, además de toda la angustia de vivir en esas condiciones, el pobre tiene que cuidar a su hermano menor, Hassan, que no habla y sufre convulsiones, esta realidad te golpea fuertemente, te hace sentir todo el dolor y la lucha que viven estos niños.

Y hablando de la historia, tiene un ritmo genial, se va desenvolviendo súper natural, combinando dibujos que te dejan sin aliento, llenos de vida, con un texto directo que te mete de cabeza en el mundo de Omar.. hay como una onda suave, ¿saben? momentos tranquilos, de pensar, que se mezclan con otros llenos de energía y la solidaridad de la gente que se ayuda en medio de todo el caos, esta mezcla de dibujos y letras hace que cada momento, por más duro que sea, se sienta real, pero sin que te abrume. Pero lo que más, más, más me llegó al corazón fue lo reales que son los personajes, Omar no es solo una víctima, no, lo muestran con una complejidad tan real que no puedes evitar sentirte conectado con él, incluso cuando todo parece estar en su contra.. su relación con Hassan es súper conmovedora, se siente el peso enorme que tiene sobre sus hombros y la lucha interna que tiene entre cuidar a su hermano y seguir su sueño de ir a la escuela.. es una decisión durísima que refleja las cosas tan feas que tienen que vivir muchos niños en los campos de refugiados.

The themes they touch on are very powerful, they touch your heart and they deal with them in such depth that it leaves you thinking. They show you without mincing words what it is like to be a refugee and the enormous problems they face every day. Here they don’t hide the ugly side of life in the camp from you, but they also teach you that hope and kindness exist, and boy do they exist, because even though there is poverty and pain everywhere, the refugee camp becomes a community where people support each other and bonds are created like family, do you understand? And Fatuma, the lady who takes them in, is incredible, she is like a ray of light, that compassion and support that shows you that even in the worst situation someone can lend a hand… also, the memory of Omar’s mother is always present, showing how important women are in his life.

Another thing that made me think was how this book makes you appreciate how lucky many of us are, reading about a world where the most basic things are a luxury, makes you question everything we take for granted in our daily lives... it's like a gentle but powerful reminder that we can always help and that any little good thing we do counts, this story is not just for crying a little, but also for debating, for talking about empathy, hope and how important it is to be supportive when things get ugly. But it's not perfect either... there were times when I felt that the story was going a little slow, and in some parts I would have liked to know more about some characters, to get more into their heads... maybe if they had told a little more about their past, the story would have hit me even harder, but well, those little things don't take away from the good thing about the reading, at all.

Los temas que toca son ¡fuertísimos!, te llegan al alma, y los tratan con una profundidad que te deja pensando.. te muestran sin pelos en la lengua lo que es ser refugiado y los problemas gigantescos que enfrentan todos los días, y aquí no te esconden la parte fea de la vida en el campo, pero también te enseñan que la esperanza y la bondad existen, y vaya que existen, porque aunque hay pobreza y dolor por todos lados, el campo de refugiados se convierte en una comunidad donde la gente se apoya y se crean lazos como de familia, ¿me entienden? Y Fatuma, la señora que los acoge, es increíble, ella es como un rayito de luz, esa compasión y apoyo que te demuestran que hasta en la peor situación alguien te puede echar una mano.. además, el recuerdo de la mamá de Omar siempre está presente, mostrando lo importantes que son las mujeres en su vida.

Otra cosa que me dejó pensando fue cómo este libro te hace valorar lo afortunados que somos muchos, leer sobre un mundo donde lo más básico es un lujo, te hace cuestionarte todo lo que damos por sentado en nuestro día a día.. es como un recordatorio suave, pero potente, de que siempre podemos ayudar y que cualquier cosita buena que hagamos cuenta, esta historia no es solo para llorar un rato, sino también para debatir, para hablar de empatía, esperanza y lo importante que es ser solidarios cuando la cosa se pone fea. Pero tampoco es perfecto.. hubo momentos en que sentí que la historia iba un poco lenta, y en algunas partes me hubiera gustado saber más de algunos personajes, meterme más en su cabeza.. quizás si hubieran contado un poco más de su pasado, la historia me habría pegado aún más fuerte, pero bueno, esas cositas no le quitan lo bueno a la lectura, para nada.

If you like graphic novels, or if you are hooked on true stories that shake you up but also fill you with good vibes, this book is for you! It tells you things as they are, without sugar-coating anything, but at the same time it shows you how people find strength where they don't have it and how solidarity saves us. If you want to understand a little better what refugees go through, or if you like stories that make you think about hope, about putting yourself in someone else's shoes and how we can do things together, give it a chance. Whether you are young or an adult, here you will find a lesson on how, despite the tragedies, people can come together and take care of each other.

This book left me with a heavy heart, I swear, on the one hand, I felt enormous sadness thinking about what these children suffer, how hard their day to day is... but, on the other hand, it gave me an injection of hope, seeing how, even in the darkest, kindness and help from the community can change everything... it is a read that makes you look at your own life and think about how, with small gestures, we can make a better world together, it is a graphic gem that, although it shows you a very hard reality, leaves you with a nice feeling inside. I give it a rating of 4.5/5, it makes you value education, understand how important family and the people around you are, and realize that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference... it is a tribute to the strength of the human being and a reminder that, although sometimes everything looks ugly, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel... and well, I hope you liked this review, we will see you soon in another review, take care of yourselves! Si te gustan las novelas gráficas, o si te enganchan las historias reales que te sacuden, pero también te llenan de buena vibra, ¡este libro es para ti! Y es que te cuenta las cosas como son, sin endulzar nada, pero a la vez te muestra cómo la gente saca fuerzas de donde no las tiene y cómo la solidaridad nos salva, si quieres entender un poco mejor lo que viven los refugiados, o si te gustan las historias que te hacen pensar en la esperanza, en ponernos en los zapatos del otro y en cómo podemos hacer cosas juntos, dale una oportunidad, igual si eres joven o adulto, aquí vas a encontrar una lección de cómo, a pesar de las tragedias, la gente puede unirse y cuidarse entre sí.

A mí este libro me dejó con el corazón apretado, te lo juro, por un lado, sentí una tristeza enorme al pensar en lo que sufren estos niños, en lo duro que es su día a día.. pero, por otro lado, me dio una inyección de esperanza, ver cómo, incluso en lo más oscuro, la bondad y la ayuda de la comunidad pueden cambiarlo todo.. es una lectura que te hace mirar tu propia vida y pensar en cómo, con pequeños gestos, podemos hacer un mundo mejor entre todos, es una joyita gráfica que, aunque te muestra una realidad bien dura, te deja con una sensación bonita por dentro. Le doy una calificación de 4.5/5, te hace valorar la educación, entender lo importante que es la familia y la gente que te rodea, y darte cuenta de que hasta el acto más pequeño de bondad puede hacer la diferencia.. es un homenaje a la fuerza del ser humano y un recordatorio de que, aunque a veces todo pinte feo, siempre hay una luz al final del túnel.. y bueno, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña, nos veremos pronto en otra reseña, cuidense mucho!
