"Understanding the madman.*
I recently had the opportunity to read one of the better 2020/2021 comics, from the world of Batman. A story devoid of Batman(he only appears for a fraction to do something bad) and all the super hero powers, and focusing on solving a mystery.
Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity by Kami Garcia is an engaging and gripping Psychological Thriller.
Harley Quinzell is repositioned in this story as a police profiler who is able to get inside the mind of a murderer and tries to solve the mystery.
Each issue shows the journey of our Harley through pure madness.
The comic takes a lot of inspiration from Hannibal or Mr. Mercedes, but it also tries to add a lot of its own, creating a unique combination.
It's a story that makes it clear from the first pages of the comic that it's going to be a tough puzzle for the heroine when it turns out that a maniac is killing and laying out Harley's friend in the bathroom.
Joker, as he gets his nickname, is a madman who, on the one hand, wants to escape from the guilt his father burdened him with, on the other, his twisted psyche creates a character from which he cannot free himself. In this version Joker is not bad from the beginning, it is the accidental accident and then his father that slowly create a madman. It is the ridicule at school and the teasing that add to his incendiary factor. He is not immediately evil many years must pass before he commits murder.
The comic is divided into several stages. The Joker's gaze is always in full color with many details so that the reader can fully absorb the madness that surrounds him.
Harley's perspective as a profiler, on the other hand, is in shades of black and white, almost like a noir story, a dark search for a maniacal killer who commits another crime every night.
They are connected by scenes in color from the past where certain stages in their lives are quite similar and they are in full color.
Joker throughout the comic is manipulating, but also trying to charm Harley or show that evil is in everyone just this one impulse.
Harley will have to stop a madman who decided to do an extreme overkill at a concert.
Two very different characters, from different homes, have one thing in common: violence. Both characters have been severely abused, though each to a different degree it reflects on the future which makes this crazy relationship between them, so strangely adjacent to each other.
As far as the murders are concerned, the authors did their best and in quite an interesting way, we have references to the works of Salvadore Dali, but also Leonardo Da Vinci, or the Russian ballet, or even Houidini and his most famous number. Each crime brings our heroine closer to finding the madman and learning his identity.
The finale of the story is a bit limp, although the last frames strongly stirs the viewer's mind, as Joker wins to some extent.
This is not a comic for everyone, there are some pretty strong crime scenes shown as well as the whole investigation, more for an older reader who likes crime fiction.
I liked the comic very much, you can see that the creator, inspired by great works of culture, tries to set the pace so that the reader was surprised at the end.
There is also a subtle reference to the familiar appearance of Harley, but in this story it is shown in such an interesting way that the reader immediately recognizes the familiar costume.
It's a shame that the story is only 8 issues long because it is one of the most interesting comics that give the reader an interesting story of the characters and a great and chilling mystery.
I heartily recommend this comic book to me as perfect 9/10
Zrozumieć szaleńca.
W ostatnim czasie miałem możliwość przeczytać jeden z lepszych komiksów 2020/2021, ze świata Batmana. Historie pozbawiona Batmana(pojawia się tylko na ułamek by dokonać czegoś złego) i wszystkich super bohaterskich mocy, a skupiający się na rozwiązaniu zagadki.
Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity autorstwa Kami Garcia to wciągały i trzymający w napięciu Thriller psychologiczny.
Harley Quinzell jest w tej historii przestawiona jako policyjna profiler, która potrafi wniknąć w umysł mordercy i stara się rozwikłać zagadkę.
Każdy zeszyt pokazuje drogę naszej Harley przez czyste szaleństwo.
Komiks czerpie garściami z Hannibala czy z Pana Mercedesa, choć stara się tez wiele dodać od siebie tworząc niezwykle połączenie.
To historia, która od pierwszych stron komiksu daje do zrozumienia, ze będzie to trudna zagadka dla bohaterki, kiedy okazuje się, ze maniak zabija i układa w łazience przyjaciółkę Harley.
Joker bo taki dostaje przydomek to szaleniec, który z jednej strony chce uciec od winy jaka obarczał go ojciec, z drugiej ciagle zwichrowana psychika tworzy postać od której nie potrafi się uwolnić. W tej wersji Joker nie jest zły od początku to przypadkowy wypadek, a później ojciec tworzą powoli szaleńca. To wyśmiewanie w szkole i dokuczanie dodają mu czynnik zapalający. Nie od razu jest zły wiele lat musi minąć nim dokonuje mordu.
Komiks dzieli się na kilka etapów. Spojrzenie Jokera, zawsze jest w pełnym kolorze z wieloma szczegółami tak by czytelnik mógł wchłonąć w pełni szaleństwo jakie go otacza.
Z koleji zaś spojrzenie Harley jako profilerki jest w odcieniach czerni i bieli, wręcz niczym opowieść noir, mroczne poszukiwanie maniakalnego mordercy, który co noc dokonuje kolejnej zbrodni.
Łącza ich sceny w kolorze z przeszłości gdzie pewne etapy w życiu maja dość podobne i to one są w pełnym kolorze.
Joker przez cały komiks manipuluje, ale i stara się zauroczyć Harley bądź ukazać, ze zło jest w każdym wystarczy ten jeden impuls.
Harley będzie musiała powstrzymać szaleńca, który postanowił zrobić niezwykle przestawienie na koncercie.
Dwie skrajnie różne postacie, z różnych domow łączy jedno przemoc. Jedna i druga postać mocno były wykorzystywane, choć każda w innym stopniu odbija się to na przyszłości przez co ta szalona relacja między nimi, jest tak dziwnie przylegająca do siebie.
Jeśli chodzi o zabójstwa to autorzy postarali się i to w dość ciekawy sposób mamy nawiązania do dzieł Salvadore Dali, ale i Leonardo Da Vinci, czy tez do Rosyjskiego baletu, czy nawet Houidiniego i jego najsłynniejszy numer. Każda zbrodnia przybliża nasza bohaterkę do odnalezienia szaleńca i poznania jego tożsamości.
Finał opowieści lekko kuleje, choć ostatnie kadry mocno mieszaja widzowi w umyśle, gdyż Joker w pewnym stopniu wygrywa.
To nie komiks dla każdego, są pokazane dość mocne sceny zbrodni, jak i całe śledztwo, raczej dla starszego czytelnika, lubiącego kryminał.
Komiks bardzo mi się podobał, widać, ze twórca inspirując się wielkimi dziełami kultury stara się nadać tempo tak by czytelnik był zaskoczony na końcu.
Jest tez subtelne nawiązanie do znanego nam wyglądu Harley, jednak w tej historii jest to na tyle ciekawie pokazane, ze czytelnik od razu wyłapie znany strój.
Szkoda, ze opowieść ma tylko 8 zeszytów, bo to jeden z ciekawszych komiksów, które dają czytelnikowi ciekawa historie bohaterów oraz świetna i mrożąca krew w żyłach zagadkę.
