Sometime late last year, I signed up to become a member of the Hobeck Advanced Readers Team. As a result, I have been sent a variety of books to read and provide an honest review for. One such book was, Over Her Dead Body (The Quirk Files Book 1), by AB Morgan.
Gabby Dixon is dead. That’s news to her…
The reader is quickly brought into Gabby’s world as it crumbles around her, sharing her confusion and desperation at what can have gone so wrong for her to be officially declared dead! After that, a puzzle ensues to figure out who did what and why, who can or cannot be trusted, and where on earth this is all leading.
I was particularly drawn to Over Her Dead Body, knowing that this is the first book of a series featuring husband and wife Private Investigators, Peddyr and Connie Quirk, whose skills and expertise are called upon to help Gabby get to the bottom of her predicament. As a former PI myself, I am aware that the job is often unrealistically portrayed in fiction but, here, it is no less entertaining in its realism, and these are characters I will be keen to follow in future books.
Just halfway into 'Over Her Dead Body,' I was already looking forward to more in the series. These are terrifically fun and interesting characters. The book is well-researched, as evidenced by what I would consider an entirely plausible plot, along with the author's experience of working in mental health services. This might be one of those scenarios that seem rather far-fetched, yet could conceivably happen to somebody. I wonder, would others have made the same choices that Gabby makes later in the book? Perhaps yes. I am trying not to give away too much because the twists are lovely, and I want you to enjoy them!
