Hello Hello Community! ✨, it's incredible how I don't even know where to start this review, but what better way than saying that these books, because there are two but today I will only talk about the first one, became my obsession last week, you really can't imagine everything that these books made me feel, to the point that when I finished the second one I was left with an absolute feeling of emptiness and needing answers, because although I said that there are two of them, the reality is that it is a saga, only that so far only the first two have been published, so you can imagine a little of where my desire to get answers comes from 🤣, so as the title says, today we will talk about The King's Perfume 🤴🏻💕.
🤴🏻 SYNOPSIS 💕
Emily Malhore is a young commoner of 18 years old, daughter of the most famous perfumers of the kingdom of Mishnock, who all her life has been under the overprotection of her parents leading a quiet life with her sisters and her best friend, being her biggest dream to have a flower shop. However, her whole life changes the day she meets prince Stefan Denavrizt, because although she never even imagined it, now it seems that the prince has fixed all his attention on her, making her the focal point of the whole kingdom and of all his enemies.
Because if there is something that has been a constant in all the inhabitants of Mishnock, it has been the hard and lamentable war they have with the neighbouring kingdom Lacrontte, led by an egocentric man, feared and hated by all, who has been responsible for the suffering of an entire people and with whom Emily definitely does not want to cross paths, although fate wants completely different things for her, because now she is trapped in a game of powers, where she will have to learn to fight or be undermined.
🤴🏻 BETWEEN POWER AND LOVE THERE IS A DANGEROUS LINE 💕
The King's Perfume is the first book of the Saga King by author Karine Bernal Lobo, who had her beginnings on the Wattpad platform with just this story, which began as a trilogy but now it is confirmed by the author herself that it will be a saga of 4 books. The story became so popular on the platform, that in 2023 it was published in physical form by Editorial Planeta Colombia, and since then its popularity has been increasing. I had been hearing about this story for a while, but as I knew that not all the books were published yet, I was putting off reading it, until the tik tok edits made it impossible for me to ignore it and I fell into the hands of this incredible book 💖.
This first book is narrated exclusively from Emily's perspective, which I don't dislike this time because as it is the introduction to the story, I understand that it is better to do it from the main protagonist, because in a way she is also introducing herself to what will be her own story. I have to say that I don't really know how this book is classified, because some people classify it as fantasy, but I didn't feel that way, I mean I understand that it's a world created by the author, with its own time system (although it's explained from the beginning I didn't understand it 🤣), but I feel that there are many elements that take away that touch of fantasy, that or maybe I'm used to another kind of fantasy 🤣.
Now, I won't go on to talk directly about the characters, because I have something to say about many of them and because I think that will be a section with spoilers, so I prefer to leave it last and focus a little on telling the plot. To begin with we must know that we are facing a story of monarchies, there are not only the ones I mentioned before but there are others, so a theme that is often talked about is that of alliances, therefore it is easy to understand that in a world of this type, the biggest element of alliance that exists is that of arranged marriages, and that's important to understand because it's talked about and hinted at a lot of times, and it's actually an aspect that as a reader you question many times, precisely because of the relationship that Emily and Stefan forge, because she's a commoner and therefore has no place in that world.
And as governments are made of injustices, something that I loved about this book and that doesn't make me get over it because I feel it came at the moment I needed it the most, is that the author talks about and reflects throughout the story, the presence of oppressive governments, and I really take my hat off to the way she reflects it. Yes this is a romance book, but it is also a clear criticism of governmental systems, where we can find judicial injustices and how women are only heard if they have the support of powerful men; we see social inequalities, classism and racism, and understand how the economic issue can drive a person to do things they never imagined they would do, and all this from an excellent narration.
The pace of the story seems to me to be very appropriate, I do feel that there are things that happen very quickly, such as the romance between Emily and Stefan, but I understand that this is how it should be written first because we are talking about the Insta Love cliché (which I have never liked) and second, that we are dealing with an extremely innocent female character, so innocent and noble that she falls badly (really 🤦🏻♀️) and that she was before her first great love, so even if it feels rushed, it shows that it is well narrated. There are parts of the story that you see coming from the beginning, or in the flow of the reading, which isn't a bad thing because it's offset by other parts that take you completely by surprise.
There are details in the writing that I can't overlook, because at the beginning of the book you do feel that the author comes from Wattpad, there is a noticeable overuse of descriptions, and I understand that this is important and especially in fantasy, but when from the first chapter they fill you with them, you can get to feel the story heavy, I feel that there are many important descriptions that can be introduced creatively throughout the chapters, if they are of beginning they can go in the first chapters, but not all almost in the first paragraph of the book, and that detail unfortunately is seen in this first book and although as the story unfolds it becomes more fluid, it is still something that for me did not go unnoticed.
🤴🏻 CHARACTERS: THE LOVED AND THE HATED (spoilers, read at your own risk) 💕
Emily Malhore: What can I say about our female protagonist, the truth is that it bothers me how innocent and clumsy she can be, in general it always bothers me when they put the female protagonist as someone clumsy, I like it better when they are characters with more temperament. However, don't think that I don't like Emily because of this, because on the contrary, in many ways I could see myself reflected in her and that made me have a lot of empathy for her, I feel that she is a character that lacks character and to know how to say enough is enough, at least in this book, and that's exactly why she suffers the way she does. I feel that she is a character with a lot of resilience, who overcomes adversity and always sees the glass half full, which I myself identify with a lot, she has a lot of potential and I hope the author knows how to take advantage of it 💖.
Prince Stefan Denavrizt: And he is the one with whom the spoiler comes, because I baptized him as "The poop", I started the book knowing that I should not trust him, I took the spoiler of a certain conversation he has with Emily and that was my warning, even so I must say that he is a very well written character, because with all that in many occasions I found him tender. Stefan is the clear example of a character whose strength was killed, he has a hard and sad personal history, that explains the obsession he generates for Emily, he made me question myself a lot about the thin line between a great love and a great obsession, he is not the villain, but he is someone who does bad things covered in a false goodness that is not entirely sincere 🤷🏻♀️, besides he lacks trousers.
Rose Alfort: Typical best friend who turns out to be more enemy than friend 🤦🏻♀️, there's really no way I like this woman, from chapter 1 I knew she'd be a rock in my shoe, she's also a character with a tough story, she confronts the classism and racism of an unfair society, but none of this justifies what a lousy person she is, she tries to invalidate Emily's emotions and circumstances under the premise of "that's nothing compared to what I've been through", and in short she's an envious person who doesn't really look out for her friend's wellbeing, and basically everything Emily was exposed to was Rose's fault.
Nahomi: "On August 15th the love of your life will finally see your eyes", and there I knew that this character would have relevance in the whole story, and I wasn't wrong, if there's something I love about Nahomi is that Emily describes her as their grandmother, that person who is always there taking care of them but also being an accomplice of small misdeeds 🤣, I still don't know if she has visions or not, but what is certain is that you always have to take her words with care and analysis, and I love what that represents 🤭.
Lizzie and Mia Malhore: Emily's older sister and younger sister, I don't really have much to say about Lizzie, I find her exasperating in a way, very stubborn and she gets her family in trouble because of her own stubbornness, I don't like her at all 🤷🏻♀️... Now Mia is my favourite character of all, she's Emily's true support even though she's several years younger than her, she's funny, tenacious, with pretty high life aspirations 🤣, and a great emotional support for her sister, and honestly she's the only one who dotted the i's and crossed the t's in that house 🤣.
King Magnus Lacrontte: I left this character last for the simple fact that I want to extend myself by describing the love of the life of all of us who read this saga 💕. King Magnus VI Lacrontte Hefferline is THE CHARACTER, enigmatic, sarcastic, self-centred, and cruel who only allows himself one smile a month but she has already stolen two 🤭. The only one who doesn't underestimate Emily and has the trousers to declare war on anyone, a leader who looks out for the safety of his entire nation and army, and who hates commoners, especially a certain brown-eyed Mishnian pleyeba who is completely unpleasant to look at 🤭. So is this really an enemies to lovers, yes, and it's very well done, because the two of them really hate each other 💕🤣.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, es increíble como ni siquiera sé por dónde comenzar ésta reseña, pero que mejor forma que diciendo que estos libros, porque son dos pero hoy solo hablaré del primero, se convirtieron en mi obsesión de la semana pasada, de verdad ustedes no se llegan a imaginar todo lo que éstos libros me hicieron sentir, a tal punto que cuando acabé el segundo quedé con una absoluta sensación de vacío y con necesidad de respuestas, porque aunque dije que son dos, la realidad es que se trata de una saga, solo que hasta el momento se han publicaciones nada más los dos primeros, así que se podrán imaginar un poco de donde vienen mis ganas de obtener respuestas 🤣, así que como dice el título, hoy hablaremos sobre El Perfume del Rey 🤴🏻💕.
🤴🏻 SINOPSIS 💕
Emily Malhore es una jóven plebeya de 18 años, hija de los más famosos perfumistas del reino de Mishnock, quien toda su vida ha estado bajo la sobreprotección de sus padres llevando una vida tranquila al lado de sus hermanas y su mejor amiga, siendo su mayor sueño tener una floristería. Sin embargo, toda su vida cambia el día en que conoce al príncipe Stefan Denavrizt, porque aunque ella nunca siquiera lo imaginó, ahora parece que el príncipe ha fijado toda su atención en ella, convirtiéndola en el punto focal de todo el reino y de todos sus enemigos.
Porque si hay algo que ha sido una constante en todos los habitantes de Mishnock, ha sido la dura y lamentable guerra que éstos tienen con el reino vecino Lacrontte, dirigido por un hombre egocéntrico, temido y odiado por todos, que ha sido el responsable del sufrimiento de todo un pueblo y con quien definitivamente Emily no quiere cruzar su camino, aunque el destino quiera cosas completamente diferentes para ella, porque ahora se encuentra atrapada en un juego de poderes, donde tendrá que aprender a luchar o dejarse socavar.
🤴🏻 ENTRE EL PODER Y EL AMOR HAY UNA LÍNEA PELIGROSA 💕
El Perfume del Rey es el primer libro de la Saga Rey de la autora Karine Bernal Lobo, quien tuvo sus inicios en la plataforma Wattpad justamente con ésta historia, la cual comenzó siendo una trilogía pero que ahora está confirmado por la misma autora que se tratará de una saga de 4 libros. La historia se hizo tan popular en dicha plataforma, que en el año 2023 se publicó en físico por la Editorial Planeta Colombia, y desde entonces su popularidad ha ido en aumento. Yo llevaba tiempo escuchando sobre ésta historia, pero como sabía que aún no estaban publicados todos los libros, estaba dándole largas a su lectura, hasta que los edits de tik tok me hicieron imposible seguir ignorándola y caí en las manos de éste increíble libro 💖.
Éste primer libro está narrado exclusivamente desde la perspectiva de Emily, lo cual no me desagrada ésta vez porque al ser la introducción a la historia, entiendo que resulta mejor hacerlo desde la protagonista principal, porque de alguna forma ella también está introduciéndose a lo que será su propia historia. He de decir que no sé muy bien cómo está clasificado éste libro, porque hay quienes lo catalogan como fantasía, pero yo no lo sentí así, o sea entiendo que es un mundo creado por la autora, con su propio sistema temporal (que aunque es explica desde el inicio yo no lo logré entender 🤣), pero siento que hay muchos elementos que le quitan ese toque de fantasía, eso o quizás yo estoy acostumbrada a otro tipo de fantasía 🤣.
Ahora bien, no me pasaré a hablar directamente de los personajes, porque tengo algo que decir de muchos de ellos y porque creo que esa será una sección con spoilers, así que prefiero dejarla de último y centrarme un poco en contar la trama. Para empezar debemos saber que estamos ante una historia de monarquías, no solo existen las que ya mencioné anteriormente sino que existen otras más, por lo que un tema del cual se habla con frecuencia, es el de las alianzas, por ende es fácil entender que en un mundo de éste tipo, el mayor elemento de alianza que existe es el de matrimonios arreglados, y eso es importante entenderlo porque se habla y se insinúa éste tema un montón de veces, y es de hecho un aspecto que como lector te cuestionas muchas veces, justamente por la relación que forjan Emily y Stefan, porque ella es una plebeya y por ende no pinta nada en ese mundo.
Y como de injusticias están hechos los gobiernos, algo que me encantó de éste libro y que no me hace superarlo porque siento que llegó en el momento que más lo necesitaba, es que la autora habla y refleja a lo largo de toda la historia, la presencia de gobiernos opresores, y de verdad me quito el sombrero ante la forma en cómo lo refleja. Sí ésto es un libro de romance, pero también es una clara crítica a los sistemas gubernamentales, en donde podemos encontrar injusticias judiciales y como las mujeres sólo son escuchadas si cuentan con el apoyo de hombres de poder; vemos las desigualdades sociales, el clasismo y el racismo, y entender cómo el tema económico puede orillar a una persona a hacer cosas que jamás imaginó que llegaría a hacer, y todo ésto desde una excelente narración.
El ritmo de la historia me parece super acorde, sí siento que hay cosas que pasan muy apresuradamente, como por ejemplo el romance entre Emily y Stefan, pero entiendo que así debe ser escrito primero porque hablamos del cliché de Insta Love (el cual nunca me ha gustado) y segundo, que estamos ante un personaje femenino sumamente inocente, tan inocente y noble que cae mal (de verdad 🤦🏻♀️) y que estaba ante su primer gran amor, así que aunque se llegue a sentir apresurado, eso demuestra que está bien narrado. Hay partes de la historia que ves venir desde el inicio, o en el transitar de la lectura, lo cual no está mal porque se compensa con otras partes que te agarran completamente de sorpresa.
Hay detalles en la escritura que no puedo dejar pasar por alto, porque al inicio del libro sí se siente que la autora viene de Wattpad, hay un notable uso excesivo de las descripciones, y yo entiendo que ésto es importante y sobre todo en la fantasía, pero cuando desde el primer capítulo te llenan de ellas, puedes llegar a sentir la historia pesada, yo siento que hay muchas descripciones importantes que se pueden ir introduciendo de forma creativa a lo largo de los capítulos, si son de inicio pueden ir en los primeros capítulos, pero no todas casi que en el primer párrafo del libro, y ese detalle lastimosamente de ve en éste primer libro y aunque a medida que se desenvuelve la historia se torna más fluido, igual es algo que para mí no pasó desapercibido.
🤴🏻 PERSONAJES: LOS QUERIDOS Y LOS ODIADOS (con spoiler, leer bajo su propio riesgo) 💕
Emily Malhore: Que puedo decir de nuestra protagonista femenina, la verdad me molesta lo inocente y torpe que puede llegar a ser, en general siempre me molesta cuando ponen a la protagonista femenina como alguien torpe, me gusta más cuando son personajes con mayor temple. Sin embargo, no crean que por esto Emily me cae mal porque al contrario, de muchas formas pude verme reflejada en ella y eso me hizo tenerle mucha empatía, siento que es un personaje al que le falta carácter y saber decir ya basta, al menos en éste libro, y justamente por eso sufre de la manera en que lo hace. Siento que es un personaje con mucha resiliencia, que se sobrepone a las adversidades y que siempre ve el vaso medio lleno, con lo que yo misma me identifico bastante, tiene mucho potencial y espero la autora lo sepa aprovechar 💖.
Príncipe Stefan Denavrizt: Y con él es con quien viene el spoiler, porque yo lo bautice como “El cacas”, yo comencé el libro sabiendo que no debía confiar en el, me lleve el spoiler de cierta conversación que tiene con Emily y que era mi advertencia, aún así debo decir que es un personaje muy bien escrito, porque con todo eso en muchas ocasiones me resultó tierno. Stefan es el claro ejemplo de un personaje a quien le mataron su fortaleza, tiene una historia personal dura y triste, que explica la obsesión que genera por Emily, él me hizo cuestionarme mucho sobre la delgada línea entre un gran amor y una gran obsesión, no es el villano, pero si es alguien que hace cosas malas encubiertas en una falsa bondad que no es del todo sincera 🤷🏻♀️, aparte le faltan pantalones.
Rose Alfort: La típica mejor amiga que resulta mas enemiga que amiga 🤦🏻♀️, de verdad no hay forma en que ésta mujer a mi me agrade, desde el capítulo 1 yo sabía que sería una piedra en el zapato, es también un personaje con una historia dura, se enfrenta al clasismo y al racismo de una sociedad injusta, pero nada de ésto justifica la pésima persona que es, intenta invalidar las emociones y circunstancias por las que vive Emily bajo la premisa de “eso es nada comparado con lo que yo he vivido”, y en resumen es una persona envidiosa que realmente no busca el bienestar de su amiga, y es que básicamente todo a lo que Emily estuvo expuesta fue por culpa de Rose.
Nahomi: “El 15 de Agosto el amor de tu vida te verá a los ojos finalmente”, y allí supe que este personaje tendría relevancia en toda la historia, y no me equivoqué, si hay algo que me encanta de Nahomi es que Emily la describe como su abuela, esa persona que siempre está allí cuidandolas pero también siendo cómplice de pequeñas fechorías 🤣, aún no tengo del todo claro si ella tiene o no visiones, pero lo que sí es cierto es que siempre hay que tomarse sus palabras con detenimiento y análisis, y me encanta lo que eso representa 🤭.
Lizzie y Mía Malhore: La hermana mayor y la hermana menor de Emily, la verdad de Lizzie no tengo mayor cosa que decir, me parece alguien exasperante en cierto sentido, muy testaruda y que mete a su familia en cierto problema por culpa de su misma terquedad, no me cae del todo bien 🤷🏻♀️.. Ahora Mia es mi personaje favorito de todos, es el verdadero soporte de Emily incluso aunque sea varios años menor que ella, es divertida, tenaz, con aspiraciones de vida bastante elevadas 🤣, y un gran apoyo emocional para su hermana, y sinceramente es la única que pone los puntos sobre las ies en esa casa 🤣.
Rey Magnus Lacrontte: Dejé de último éste personaje por el simple hecho de que me quiero extender describiendo al amor de la vida de todas las que leemos ésta saga 💕. El Rey Magnus VI Lacrontte Hefferline es EL PERSONAJE, enigmático, sarcástico, egocéntrico, y cruel que solo se permite una sonrisa al mes pero ella ya se ha robado dos 🤭. El único que no subestima a Emily y tiene los pantalones necesarios para declararle la guerra al que sea, un líder que vela por la seguridad de toda su nación y su ejército, y que odia a los plebeyos, sobre todo a cierta pleyeba mishniana de ojos café y completamente desagradable a la vista 🤭. Así que ¿Es esto en realidad un enemies to lovers?, pues sí y además está muy bien hecho, porque ellos dos en serio se odian 💕🤣.
