Hello Hello Community! ✨, In the world of reading, there are skills that develop over the years, many of which I greatly admire, either because I have not managed to acquire them or because I have not even tried. One of these is the ability to read more than one book at a time without confusing the stories. For me, until today, it had been unthinkable to achieve such a feat, and the truth is that I had not tried because of this. However, I am currently reading a rather painful story that is overwhelming me a little, so to cleanse my cognitive palate a bit, I decided to read another book alongside the current one. That is why today we will talk about The Right Move (Windy City Series Book 2).

Ryan Shay is a famous basketball player who now faces a task more complicated than just playing well: being captain and making his team trust him. It is no longer enough for him to achieve the perfection and commitment expected of him in order to succeed; now he has to ensure that his team does too. But it seems that in order to achieve this, he has to convince the press and his manager that he can be more than just a self-centred basketball player, because even though he is not self-centred, that is the image he conveys.

Indigo (Indy) Ivers has just ended a six-year relationship. Finding your partner cheating on you in your own home is not something you get over quickly, and although her plans were not to return to Chicago, her job as a flight attendant for a hockey team has just improved. She has nowhere to live, so her best friend offers to let her share a flat with her brother, at least until she can save up enough money for her own place. Although neither of them was happy with this decision at first, as they are forced to live together, they discover that they can be good companions.

She needed a place to live, he needed to convince others that he was a good leader. How did that end up as a fake relationship, or not so fake?

This is my first time reading this author, and I must say that it has left a favourable first impression. Furthermore, this book belongs to a series of stories called Windy City Series, specifically the second in the series. When I downloaded the book and started reading it, I wasn't aware of this fact, and the truth is that I did get spoilers from the first story, because the sister of the male protagonist of this book (who is also the best friend of the female protagonist) is herself the protagonist of the first book, and here there are references to events that occur in that story. So if I decide to read that book, I would already know some things about the plot.

Now, speaking of this book in particular (which is why we are here), it is important for me to mention what I was looking for in this story. As I said at the beginning of the post, I needed something to cleanse me of the other book I am reading, so it had to be an easy-to-read, fairly romantic story that would hook me from page one. And I am very happy to say that this book fulfilled everything I was looking for.

It is not a profound story, although it does touch on important themes, such as the search for external approval, self-imposed perfection, fame as a golden cage, and the desire to be a mother with fertility issues, among others. So, even though it is a book with simple narration and a story that seems to be ‘very rosy,’ the reality is that it successfully introduces us to questioning certain issues, not only from Ryan's perspective, as an excessively famous player with a lot of media pressure, but also from Indy's, who seeks ‘more everyday’ goals and lives with difficulties that we can all identify with.

I think the author very subtly manages to capture how a woman in her late twenties who wants to be a mother feels when she has just ended a relationship with someone with whom she envisioned the future she so longs for, and how these events lead her to question whether she will really be able to achieve that goal, or if she does achieve it, whether she will be alone. I think at least 60% of women in the world could connect with that narrative, even saying ‘I went through the same thing,’ and that seems to me to be a huge success for a book that, at first glance, seems less profound.

I also love that the personality roles have been reversed. Yes, we have a famous, millionaire player who is introverted and enjoys a completely silent house more than a huge party surrounded by other famous people. On the other hand, we have a simple flight attendant with a stable job that doesn't provide too many luxuries, who is the life of the party, extroverted and overwhelmingly eloquent. These are two ‘personality types’ that are frequently used in romantic literature, but they are always portrayed in opposite ways, so it was nice to see that change.

We get the perspective of both characters, and in this case, I think it's a good move, not only allowing us to get to know both protagonists in a more specific way, but also giving us the chance to interact with other characters. Sometimes, the romantic genre tends to be very limiting, focusing too much on the main couple, and although this is not a bad thing, it makes it difficult to connect with other characters who may be very important in the protagonists' lives.

Both Ryan and Indy seem to me to be very well developed characters. From the very first minute, you can see their chemistry and how much they both want the best for each other. Ryan wants Indy to care more about herself and less about others, putting herself first in her life. Meanwhile, Indy wants to see Ryan enjoy his life more, be less isolated, and connect more with family and friends. From my perspective, the author shows us a fairly healthy couple, or rather, she shows us how a relationship should be a team effort.

I laughed a lot with both characters; if one of them blushed, I blushed with them, and in the end, the development of their romance made me think about why I like these stories so much. It's not the best couple I've ever read about in a book, but I would dare to say that it's quite memorable. I wouldn't read it again, but if I continue with the series, I would like to know what has happened to them. I should mention, though, that I didn't like the epilogue so much, because I think it answers a question that could have been revealed in a future book, since the following stories are connected in some way, so I think they could have played with that intrigue. It's not a bad epilogue, but it wasted some potential.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, en el mundo de la lectura, hay habilidades que se van desarrollando con los años, muchas de esas son de mi total admiración, bien sea porque no he logrado adquirirlas o porque ni siquiera he intentado, una de ellas es la capacidad de leer más de un libro en simultáneo, y no confundir las historias. Para mi, hasta al sol de hoy había sido impensable lograr tal hazaña, y la verdad es que por eso no lo había intentado. Sin embargo, actualmente me encuentro leyendo una historia bastante dolorosa que me está abrumado un poco, así que para limpiar un poco mi paladar cognitivo, decidí leer otro libro a la par del actual, es por esa razón que hoy hablaremos sobre Jugando Fuerte (La Ciudad de los Vientos 2).

Ryan Shay es un famoso jugador de baloncesto, que ahora se enfrenta a una tarea más complicada que solo jugar bien: ser capitán y hacer que su equipo confíe en él. Ya no solo basta con que él alcance la perfección y el compromiso esperado para triunfar, ahora tiene que garantizar que su equipo también lo logre, pero parece que para lograr eso tiene que convencer a la prensa y a su manager, de que puede ser algo más que un simple jugador egocéntrico de baloncesto, porque aunque no sea egocéntrico, esa la imagen que transmite.

Índigo (Indy) Ivers acaba de terminar una relación de 6 años, encontrar a tu pareja siendo infiel en tu propia casa no es algo que se supere rápido, y aunque sus planes eran no regresar a Chicago, su trabajo como azafata de un equipo de Hockey acaba de mejorar. No tiene donde vivir, así que su mejor amiga le ofrece compartir apartamento con su hermano, al menos mientras puede reunir dinero para algo propio, y aunque al inicio ninguno de los dos estaba contento con esa decisión, en el camino de la convivencia forzada, encuentran que pueden ser buenos compañeros.

Ella necesitaba un lugar en donde vivir, él necesitaba convencer a los demás de ser un buen líder, ¿Cómo acabó eso es una relación falsa, no tan falsa?

Esta es mi primera lectura de esta autora y la verdad es que me ha dejado una buena primera impresión, además este libro pertenece a una serie de historias llamada La Ciudad de los Vientos, siendo específicamente el segundo de dicha serie. Cuando yo descargue el libro y comencé a leerlo no era consciente de este dato, y la verdad es que si me lleve spoilers de la primera historia, porque la hermana del protagonista masculino de este libro (quien también es la mejor amiga de la protagonista femenina), es en sí misma, la protagonista del primer libro, y aquí se hace mención de datos que ocurren en esa historia. Así que si me decido a leer ese libro, pues ya sabría algunas cosas de la trama.

Ahora bien, hablando de este libro en concreto (que es por lo que estamos aquí), es importante para mi mencionar qué estaba buscando de esta historia, como bien dije al inicio del post, necesitaba algo que me limpiara de la otra lectura que estoy haciendo, asi que debia ser una historia fácil de leer, bastante romántica y que me atrapara desde la página uno. Y debo decir con mucha alegría, que este libro cumplió con todo lo que buscaba.

No es una historia profunda, aunque sí toca temas importantes, como ejemplo la búsqueda de aprobación externa, la perfección autoimpuesta, la fama como una jaula de oro, el deseo de ser madre con dificultades de fertilidad, entre otros. Así que, aunque sea un libro con una narración sencilla y una historia que pinta a ser “muy rosa”, la realidad es que nos introduce con éxito a cuestionarnos sobre ciertos temas, no solo desde la perspectiva de Ryan, siendo un jugador excesivamente famoso y con mucha presión mediática, sino también desde Indy, quien busca metas “más cotidianas” y que vive con dificultades con las que todas podemos identificarnos.

Me parece que la autora, muy sutilmente, logra capturar como se siente una mujer, de casi 30 años, que desea ser madre, pero que acaba de terminar una relacion con alguien con quien visualizó ese futuro que tanto añora, y cómo estos hechos llevan a que se cuestione si realmente podrá alcanzar ese objetivo, o si de alcanzarlo sería sola. Creo que al menos un 60% de mujeres en el mundo podría conectar con esa narrativa, incluso decir “yo pase por lo mismo”, y eso me parece un acierto gigante para un libro que , a simple vista, parece menos profundo.

Me encanta además, que los roles de personalidad se hayan intercambiado. Sí, tenemos a un jugador famoso y millonario, que es introvertido y disfruta más una casa en completo silencio, que una fiesta enorme rodeado de más personas famosas. Mientras que por el otro lado, tenemos a una simple azafata, con trabajo estable pero que tampoco proporciona demasiados lujos, siendo el alma de la fiesta, extrovertida y arrolladoramente elocuente. Dos “tipos de personalidad”, que son frecuentemente usados en la literatura romántica, pero que siempre se muestran de manera contraria, así que ver ese cambio fue agradable.

Se cuenta con la perspectiva de ambos personajes, y en este caso me parece que es un acierto, no solo nos permite conocer a ambos protagonistas de una manera más específica, sino que también nos da la posibilidad de interactuar con otros personajes. A veces, el género romántico tiende a ser muy limitante, se enfoca demasiado en la pareja protagónica, y aunque no está mal, te dificulta conectar con otros personajes que pueden ser de mucha relevancia en la vida de los protagonistas.

Tanto Ryan como Indy, me parece que tienen un desarrollo muy bien trabajado, desde el minuto uno se nota su química, y las ganas que tienen ambos de ver al otro bien. Ryan quiere ver a una Indy que se preocupe más por ella misma, y no tanto por los demás, dándose a ella el primer lugar en su vida. Mientras que Indy, quiere ver a un Ryan que disfrute más de la vida que tiene, menos aislado y más conectado con familia y amigos. Desde mi perspectiva, la autora nos muestra una pareja bastante sana, o mejor dicho, nos muestra como una relación debe ser un equipo.

Me reí un montón con ambos personajes, si alguno se sonrojaba, yo me sonrojaba con ellos, y al final el desenvolvimiento de su romance me llevó a pensar por qué me gustan tanto estas historias. No es en sí misma la mejor pareja que he leído de un libro, pero si me atrevería a decir que es bastante memorable, no la leería de nuevo, pero si continuo con la serie me gustaría saber qué ha ocurrido con ellos. Aunque he de mencionar, que el epílogo no me gusto tanto, porque creo que responde a una pregunta que se pudo develar en un futuro libro, porque de alguna forma las siguientes historias están conectadas, así que considero que se pudo jugar con esa intriga, no es un mal epílogo, pero se desaprovechó cierto potencial.
