This year I decided to set myself a challenge to read at least one book a month, and I'm very happy that I've more than met it. Reading is one of the biggest passions I've developed since I was a teenager, but I've also had bumps in the road where no book has grabbed me, however, once I start one I always force myself to finish it, no matter how long it takes.
But this 2023 I decided it was time to get back into a good reading rhythm, when I was fifteen, reading a 600 page book in one night was a piece of cake, but now, sometimes it takes me up to a whole month, and it's a bit disappointing. However, lately I have picked up my courage and this month that just ended I was able to read two books, although only one of them is perfect to tell you about and recommend it.
Today I am going to review you about a work that blew me away, it caught me with ease and got me into a vortex of feelings, especially the bad ones, the spiteful and scornful ones that drive you to detest a character or their actions. Meet: Daisy Jones & The Six.
Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, this is a novel that tells the story of a 1970's rock band called The Six, and their attachment to a rising artist, Daisy Jones. Through an interview format, the book delves into the world of music and shows the ups and downs of fame, love and success.
You won't believe how cheated I felt when I investigated and found out that those musicians, that band that immersed me in a certain fanatic disdain, is fictitious. Sure, it is inspired by bands of the time, but in reality, The Six and Daisy Jones did not exist. So after getting past my stupor of disappointment, I admired the writer's ability to create a story full of real and sincere feelings.
The story begins by introducing Daisy Jones, a young and talented singer who dreams of making it in the music industry. Daisy is charismatic, beautiful, interesting but also rebellious and self-destructive. On the other hand, we have The Six, a successful band led by Billy Dunne, an egocentric and fascinating authoritarian leader. Although both have different musical styles, their paths cross when they are pushed to join forces to create music together.
The narrative of the book is immersive, as it is composed of a series of interviews with the band members and people close to them, who bring from each perspective more realism and stupor, it is magical. Through these interviews, we get to know the thoughts and feelings of each character, as well as the conflicts and tensions that arise between them, in a chronological way that makes you feel trapped in all their experiences and problems. This narrative structure gives the book a sense of authenticity and allows us to get to know each character in depth, it is just what immerses you in that lie of a reality that did not exist.
One of the highlights of Daisy Jones & The Six is the way the author portrays life in the 1970s music industry. There's no denying it, she manages to capture the essence of that era, showing the drug excess, rampant sex and inflated egos that characterized many artists of the time, and which to this day has been a legacy, only more camouflaged. Through the story of Daisy Jones & The Six, Reid shows how success can be fleeting and how personal relationships can be affected by the world of fame, worse yet, how relationships that are not separated from work can wipe out all the effort.
The characters in the novel are complex and realistic. Daisy Jones is an enigmatic character whose personality captivates everyone around her, although at times she generated more pity than anything else for me. Her relationship with Billy Dunne is intense and full of ups and downs, which adds tension to the plot. But I'll be honest, I hated and still hate Billy, despite being a leading character and being charming to the outside eye, his attitude and actions left a bad taste in my mouth, for me he's the kind of person who doesn't deserve so many chances in life.
The other characters who are members of the gang also have their own personal stories and conflicts, which gives them depth and makes them more interesting. I really liked the side stories, and I feel that they keep the essence alive outside of the toxic picture camouflaged with "love" which is the main thing in the story.
Other than that, Taylor Jenkins Reid's writing is fluid and emotive. Her descriptions are vivid and transport you to the concerts and recording studios of the 70's, at least I felt like I was part of the era for those moments. In addition, the author uses simple but effective language, which makes for an easy and addictive read.
Throughout the novel, Reid also touches on themes such as love, friendship and self-improvement. Through the characters, he shows how success can affect relationships and how one can learn to forgive and move on, although I feel he pushed forgiveness over the edge, at least mine.
My favorite characters were Karen Sirko and Simone Jackson who really are women who know what they want and go for it, as much as they tried to make Daisy outshine the reader as well, to me they were more special than Daisy. And let's not even talk about how perfect Camila Alvarez is! It's just that her essence was tainted by being so kind to Billy, she deserved more and that's why she doesn't make my top.
The book teaches the importance of being authentic and true to ourselves, even in a world full of falsehoods and appearances, that's the highlight, but there are little lines here and there that really got to me.
In short, Everybody Loves Daisy Jones is a captivating novel that combines music, love and fame in an exciting story. If you are a lover of music and captivating stories, this book is definitely for you.
As a side note, the book has a series that I haven't seen, watching it could either solidify my opinion or completely destroy my perspective of a character 😂

Este año decidí ponerme un reto de leer mínimo un libro por mes, y me mantiene muy contenta que lo he cumplido con creces. Leer es una de la mayores pasiones que he desarrollado desde la adolescencia, pero también he tenido baches de bloqueos en dónde ningún libro me ha atrapado, sin embargo, una vez que comienzo alguno siempre me obligo a terminarlo, independientemente de lo que tarde.
Pero este 2023 decidí que era momento de retomar un buen ritmo de lector, a mis quince, leer un libro de 600 páginas en una noche era pan comido, pero ahora, en ocasiones me cuesta hasta un mes entero, y es un poco decepcionante. Aunque, últimamente he agarrado ánimo y este mes que acaba de terminar pude leer dos libros, aunque solo uno de ellos es perfecto para hablarles y recomendarlo.
Hoy les voy a reseñar sobre una obra que me dejó flipando, me atrapó con facilidad y me metió en un vortice de sentimientos, sobretodo de los malos, los rencorosos y desdeñosos que te impulsan a detestar a un personaje o sus acciones. Les presento a: Todos quieren a Daisy Jones.
Escrito por Taylor Jenkins Reid, es una novela que narra la historia de una banda de rock de los años 70 llamada The Six, y su unión a una artista en ascenso, Daisy Jones. A través de un formato de entrevistas, la obra sumerge en el mundo de la música y muestra los altibajos de la fama, el amor y el éxito.
No se van a creer lo estafada que me sentí cuando investigué y me enteré que aquellos músicos, esa banda que me sumergió en cierto desden de fanatismo, es ficticia. Claro que, es inspirada en bandas de la época, pero en realidad, The Six y Daisy Jones no existieron. Así que luego de pasar mi estupor de decepción, admiré la habilidad de la escritora en crear una historia repleta de sensaciones reales y sinceras.
La historia comienza presentando a Daisy Jones, una joven y talentosa cantante que sueña con triunfar en la industria musical. Daisy es carismática, hermosa, interesante pero también es rebelde y autodestructiva. Por otro lado, tenemos a The Six, una exitosa banda liderada por Billy Dunne, un egocéntrico y fascinante líder autoritario. Aunque ambos tienen estilos musicales diferentes, sus caminos se cruzan cuando son empujados a unir fuerzas para crear música juntos.
La narrativa del libro es envolvente, ya que está compuesta por una serie de entrevistas a los miembros de la banda y a las personas cercanas a ellos, quienes aportan desde cada perspectiva más realismo y estupor, es mágico. Uno de los aspectos más destacados de Todos quieren a Daisy Jones es la forma en que la autora retrata la vida en la industria musical de los años 70. No hay que negarlo, ella logra capturar la esencia de esa época, mostrando el exceso de drogas, el sexo desenfrenado y los egos inflados que caracterizaban a muchos artistas de la época, y que a día de hoy ha sido una herencia, solo que más camuflajeada. A través de la historia de Daisy Jones & The Six, Reid muestra cómo el éxito puede ser fugaz y cómo las relaciones personales pueden verse afectadas por el mundo de la fama, peor aún, como las relaciones que no se separan del trabajo pueden acabar con todo el esfuerzo.
Los personajes de la novela son complejos y realistas. Daisy Jones es un personaje enigmático, cuya personalidad cautiva a todos los que la rodean, aunque en ocasiones me generó más lastima que cualquier cosa. Su relación con Billy Dunne es intensa y llena de altibajos, lo que añade tensión a la trama. Pero seré sincera, odié y sigo odiando a Billy, a pesar de ser un personaje protagónico y que es encantador a ojos externos, su actitud y acciones me dejaron un mal sabor de boca, para mí es el tipo de persona que no merece tantas oportunidades en la vida.
Los otros personajes que son miembros de la banda también tienen sus propias historias y conflictos personales, lo que les da profundidad y los hace más interesantes. A mí me gustaron muchísimo las historias secundarias, y siento que mantienen viva la esencia fuera del cuadro tóxico camuflejeado con "amor" que es lo principal en la historia.
Fuera de eso, la escritura de Taylor Jenkins Reid es fluida y emotiva. Sus descripciones son vívidas y transportan a los conciertos y estudios de grabación de los años 70, por lo menos yo sentí como si fuera sido parte de la época por esos instantes. Además, la autora utiliza un lenguaje sencillo pero efectivo, lo que hace que la lectura sea fácil y adictiva.
A lo largo de la novela, Reid también aborda temas como el amor, la amistad y la superación personal. A través de los personajes, muestra cómo el éxito puede afectar las relaciones y cómo se puede aprender a perdonar y seguir adelante, aunque siento que llevó el perdón más allá del límite, por lo menos el mío.
Mis personajes preferidos fueron Karen Sirko y Simone Jackson, que realmente son mujeres que saben lo que quieren y van por ello, por más que hayan intentado que Daisy también eclipsara al lector, a mí parecer ellas fueron más especiales que Daisy. ¡Y ni hablemos de lo perfecta que es Camila Alvarez! Solo que su esencia fue manchada por ser tan bondadosa con Billy, ella merecía más y por eso no entra en mi top.
El libro enseña la importancia de ser auténticos y fieles a nosotros mismos, incluso en un mundo lleno de falsedades y apariencias, eso es lo más destacable, pero hay pequeñas líneas por allí y por acá que me llegaron al fondo.
En resumen, Todos quieren a Daisy Jones es una novela cautivadora que combina música, amor y fama en una historia emocionante. Si eres amante de la música y las historias cautivadoras, este libro es definitivamente para ti.
Como nota adicional, el libro tiene una serie que no he visto, verla podría afianzar mi opinión o destruir por completo mi perspectiva de un personaje 😂
