There were about twenty-eight novels that were recommended to us in college to read and we are to analyse every one of them. Questions relating to the novels are going to come out when it’s time for us to do a literature examination. I will say right now I have up to 10 novels to read as I have read the others online and read hard copies of some of them. Okay, today I read an interesting Novel and decide to share the review here. There might be someone that will like to read it after reading the review I will be dropping about it.
One of the novels I read as I haven’t finished every one of them is Everyman. The novel “Everyman” is an anonymous novel. This means
the name of the writer is unknown and we don’t know if it’s a man or a woman that writes it because the gender is not revealed. I know when you first read or see the title of the novel you will be surprised and yes I was too when I first get a hold of the Novel. What’s Everyman? As we all know Everyman means everyone, like me, you, and everyone living in the world.
The theme in the Novel “Everyman” is death, the main character of the novel is Everyman and it’s a drama novel that teaches a lesson about how Christians should live their life and what they must do to live a worthy life.
The characters in the Novels are
God, Messenger, Death, Everyman, Fellowship, Kindred, Cousin, Good-deeds, knowledge, confession, Beauty, strength, Discretion, five wits, engel and doctor.
The novel begins when God sends death to Everyman on earth so the setting of the novel was in heaven and earth. Everyman neglected his spiritual life and was living a life that was not worth living on earth that’s why God asks death to summon him so that he can give an account of his bad and good deeds on earth.
After this, Everyman tries to get another allegorical character like material things and characters like fellowship, Beauty, strengths and a lot more of them with him but they all let him know they are of no help to him and he should follow death alone.
The only person that gives Everyman advice is knowledge and he tells him to make a confession which he did and he gains forgiveness from God.
And yes, at the end of the Novel the only person left with Everyman after all the acquaintances and people he begged for help was only his Good-deeds and he help him to get to Heaven.
The lesson that the novel teaches
One cannot enter Heaven with earthy goods when one dies, they have no value and are left behind which means only good deeds and God’s grace can provide salvation.
In the novel, I read that a time will come when every person will undertake a final journey and give an account of the way he lives his life on earth to God.
All the pictures I make use of are captured by me, so they all belong to me.
Thank you for reading
