Hola amigos amantes de la literatura y los libros, espero se encuentren bien ☺️. Tenía más de un mes intentando leer el libro que les recomendaré hoy y termine más de la mitad en un día, así de buenos son los libros de Gillian Flynn quien no solo me atrapó con su historia de Gone Girl y también Sharp Objet, si no que también encontré otra joya de libro de su autoría llamado: Lugares Oscuros. En este libro nos adentramos a una historia verdaderamente triste, traumática, dolorosa y llena de cabos que debemos atar para poder entender de que va la historia.

I had more than a month trying to read the book that I will recommend today and I finished more than half of it in one day, that's how good are the books of Gillian Flynn who not only caught me with her story of Gone Girl and Sharp Objet, but I also found another gem of a book of her authorship called: Dark Places. In this book we get into a truly sad, traumatic, painful story, full of threads that we must tie up in order to understand what the story is about.
Lugares Oscuros es un libro de género thriller psicólogico, misterio y drama familiar, una novela que cuenta la historia de una joven llamada Libby Day la mas joven de la familia modesta de los Day, ella creció siendo la menor de tres hermanos: Ben, Michelle y Debby quienes viven juntos en una granja familiar en Kinnakee - Kansas, son una familia unida a pesar de que el padre de los niños de Patty la madre de los cuatro fue abandonada por su esposo Runner Day quien era un hombre violento, con problemas de alcoholismo y que le gustaba pedir dinero prestado debiendole una gran cantidad de dinero a cantinas y personas del pueblo.
Dark Places is a psychological thriller, mystery and family drama, a novel that tells the story of a young girl named Libby Day the youngest of the Day's modest family, she grew up as the youngest of three siblings: Ben, Michelle and Debby who live together on a family farm in Kinnakee - Kansas, they are a united family despite the fact that the father of Patty's children the mother of the four was abandoned by her husband Runner Day who was a violent man, with alcoholism problems and who liked to borrow money owing a large amount of money to bars and people in town.

Aunque sentía que algo iba mal pensaba que solo eran cosas de adolescente, pero las cosas se vuelven turbias cuando comienzan a haber rumores turbios que involucran a Ben en pactos diabólicos y hasta abuso de menores.
The Day family lives from day to day with just enough, they don't have enough money to survive so they are very modest and have to be somewhat content with their reality since Patty must take care of her children who are still minors and who each have their own problems and personalities. But Patty's biggest concern is her son Ben who has been showing strange behavior by locking himself in his room, wearing black clothes and even changing the color of his natural hair from reddish to black. Although she felt something was wrong she thought it was just teenage stuff, but things get murky when there start to be shady rumors involving Ben in diabolical pacts and even child molestation.

One day Ben disappears, things at home are not going well so Patty decides to call her sister Diane who has always been looking out for the family and especially for her sister and nephews whom she considers her own children and for whom she would do anything. Patty tells her that Ben is missing and that there are very dark rumors about things they say Ben has done to little girls in town, both decide to go out to look for him but it is impossible to find him, Ben's old friends have not heard from him for a long time and the only thing they can tell her is that Ben is in some kind of sect where they worship the devil.

The story takes an unexpected turn one night in January 1985, the bodies of Patty, Michelle and Debby are found brutally murdered in the Day's house. There is no sense of who could have committed such a crime and everything points to Ben as the only one to blame, since he was missing all day and is the only person in the family who had been behaving strangely. Ben is imprisoned and the years go by, leaving only one survivor of that massacre: Libby Day. Libby survived in an almost miraculous way and grew up under the darkness of a past that haunts her to this day.

Libby had never wanted to know anything more about the day her family was destroyed, she had a lot of hatred for her brother Ben and she herself stated as best she could at her young age that he was the culprit although she wasn't sure what she was saying but she felt pressured by the shock of losing her family and having to give a statement that was real or true. More than twenty years passed and Libby lived on what she could steal on the sly from the places she visited and also from the money she got from a book she decided to publish about her story.

Then a man named Lyle Wirth unexpectedly appears in her life and explains to her that he is part of a club called Kill Club where people are in charge of collecting evidence or samples of what was the case that shocked the town, the murder became very famous and although Libby was aware that there were people curious about her story, she had no idea that there was a club about people looking for evidence or even things that Libby had to be sold as if it were an heirloom. This overwhelmed her but she needed the money and what she didn't know was that her life and the idea of what she believed to be the truth would change forever.
Tenía altas expectativas con este libro, después de leer y ver la serie de Sharp Objects que me fascinó quise buscar sobre la escritora quien tiene ideas extraordinarias para plasmar en sus libros, sobre todo de índole de drama psicológico y misterio, me encanta su forma de contar las historias y de cómo cuando piensas que ya todo está dicho sigue algo que te sorprende aún más. Lugares Oscuros es un libro que se puede leer en un mes como también en días, te atrapa de tal manera que necesitas saber la verdad aunque tengas que repasar está historia tan traumática y de cómo una familia se destroza de tal manera que es difícil no sentirse agobiado por tantas injusticias y mentiras, es increíble la forma en la que los personajes hace que los ames o los odies - no hay punto medio.
I had high expectations with this book, after reading and watching the Sharp Objects series that fascinated me I wanted to search about the writer who has extraordinary ideas to capture in her books, especially of psychological drama and mystery nature, I love her way of telling stories and how when you think everything is already said there is something that surprises you even more. Dark Places is a book that can be read in a month as well as in days, it grabs you in such a way that you need to know the truth even if you have to go through this traumatic story and how a family is torn apart in such a way that it is difficult not to feel overwhelmed by so many injustices and lies, it is incredible the way the characters make you love them or hate them - there is no middle ground.
Me gustan las historias de drama psicológico y está juega muy bien con el género, comenzando por contar la historia desde el punto de vista de los personajes y saber cómo se sentían en ciertas situaciones hace que sea más duro de leer, además de que el libro cuenta la historia de manera -presente y pasado- por lo que puedes ir atando cabos y intentando entender que es lo que pudo ocurrir para que la familia Day fuera tan desafortunada y terminara de esa manera. Todos quisieron dar lo mejor de si pero supongo que en ocasiones las cosas no salen como esperabas y la desgracia te persigue hasta encontrarte y acabar con lo que conocías como vida.
I like psychological drama stories and this one plays very well with the genre, starting by telling the story from the point of view of the characters and knowing how they felt in certain situations makes it harder to read, plus the book tells the story in a way -present and past- so you can go tying up ends and trying to understand what could have happened for the Day family to be so unfortunate and end up that way. Everyone wanted to do their best but I guess sometimes things don't turn out the way you expected and misfortune follows you until it finds you and ends what you knew as life.
Sentí tanta rabia por ciertos personajes que condujeron de alguna manera a que la desgracia ocurriera, siento que podemos encontrar personas que acaben con lo que conocemos como una vida tranquila, existe la maldad y también el deseo de egoísmo sin importar si tienes que terminar con la vida de alguien, así de fríos son algunos personajes y me queda esa sensación de que la familia Day no se merecía lo que les sucedió, siento que fueron muy despreciados y desafortunados, estuvieron en el momento y en el lugar equivocado pero es lo que hace que este libro se sienta más realista y que me guste más la escritora, sin duda tengo que buscar más libros de su autoría porque tanto como Sharp Objects y Gone Girl son historias increíbles e intrigantes por lo que no dejaría pasar la oportunidad de leer algo más.
I felt so much anger for certain characters that somehow led to the misfortune to happen, I feel that we can find people to end what we know as a peaceful life, there is evil and also the desire for selfishness no matter if you have to end someone's life, that's how cold some characters are and I am left with that feeling that the Day family didn't deserve what happened to them, I feel they were very despised and unfortunate, they were at the wrong time and in the wrong place but that's what makes this book feel more realistic and I like the writer more, I definitely have to look for more books by her because both Sharp Objects and Gone Girl are amazing and intriguing stories so I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to read something else.
