Desde el capítulo 3 quedé enganchada. Los capítulos son, en su mayoría, cortos, por eso desde el tercer capítulo no pude dejar de leer.
La trama de este libro es sencilla, podría decirse, pero bastante asombrosa.
La historia es narrada en pasado por Yunjae. Comienza desde que era un pequeño y se van mostrando en párrafos y capítulos cortos mucho de lo que ha vivido el personaje. Se nota de manera increíble en la narración el tono serio e inexpresivo del protagonista.
Pienso que este es un libro para tomarse un tiempo y leerlo despacio, así lo hice yo. Aunque es una novela corta, duré un poco más de tiempo del que creí leyéndola, porque es necesario leer entre líneas en cada una de las escenas y pensamientos que se presentan a través de la trama, porque ahí están los sentimientos escondidos a plena vista. Eso es otra cosa que me gustó bastante, que el protagonista no puede sentir ni distinguir emociones, pero en cada línea las emociones se dejan entrever, por más que sea una narrativa bastante inexpresiva.
En los diálogos, escenas, pensamientos, son muy claros los mensajes y significados ocultos dentro de la narración; donde se supone que debe ir un sentimiento, se nota.
A medida que uno va avanzando en la trama se da cuenta de que muchos de los acontecimientos que sucedieron pudo haberlos evitado el protagonista, pero he ahí el conflicto: ¿cómo Yunjae podía detener una bola de nieve que iba agarrando más impulso, e incluso teniendo la clave frente a él, si le es imposible distinguir la manera de hacerlo gracias a su amígdala más pequeña que una almendra?
Me encantan los libros y las premisas que me hacen adentrar en un mar de pensamientos, y este fue perfecto para eso.
From chapter 3 I was hooked. The chapters are, for the most part, short, so from the third chapter I couldn't stop reading.
The plot of this book is simple, you could say, but quite amazing.
The story is narrated in the past tense by Yunjae. It starts from when he was a little boy and a lot of what the character has lived through is shown in short paragraphs and chapters. The serious and inexpressive tone of the protagonist is incredibly noticeable in the narration.
I think this is a book to take your time and read it slowly, which is what I did. Even though it is a short novel, I lasted a little longer than I thought I would, because you need to read between the lines in each of the scenes and thoughts that are presented throughout the plot, because there are the feelings hidden in plain sight. That's another thing I quite liked, that the protagonist can't feel or distinguish emotions, but in every line the emotions are glimpsed, even though it's a rather inexpressive narrative.
In the dialogues, scenes, thoughts, the hidden messages and meanings within the narrative are very clear; where a feeling is supposed to go, it shows.
As one moves through the plot one realizes that many of the events that happened could have been avoided by the protagonist, but therein lies the conflict: how could Yunjae stop a snowball that was gaining more momentum, and even having the key in front of him, if it is impossible for him to discern the way to do so thanks to his amygdala smaller than an almond?
I love books and premises that draw me into a sea of thoughts, and this one was perfect for that.
Yunjae. Algo que me gustó mucho sobre este personaje es que es “normal”, en el sentido de que se suele ver en otras historias o hasta en la vida real que personas con padecimientos o enfermedades son genios y que todo lo demás no los incapacita porque nacen con mucho talento; en esta historia no sucede así. Yunjae no es superdotado, pero es perspicaz (por más que no pueda reconocer las emociones y sentimientos), es curioso, obediente, fiel y aunque no se dé cuenta, ayuda a personas a su alrededor con sus actos, palabras o preguntas.
En la trama se presentan más personajes alrededor de Yunjae. Personas con historias de vida con la que cualquiera se puede identificar, algo triviales de algún modo, pero sorprendentes y muy reales; personas con sentimientos desbordados que más bien desearían ser como Yunjae; personas que lo perdieron todo, pero que en una jugada de la vida en último momento su panorama se vio claro por lo que desearon siempre; también personas que tomaron malas decisiones.
No importa la situación ni el contexto en el que están desarrollados los personajes que aparecen en la historia, se nota que existe un más allá de lo bueno y lo malo. Cada uno lleva una realidad con la que se puede empatizar, sin necesidad de justificar, lo importante es eso: a través de los personajes se ve lo gris que es la línea de nuestras vidas, da para pensar en mucho y la empatía es el sentimiento en el que acaban esos pensamientos, al menos así me sucedió a mí.
Yunjae. Something I really liked about this character is that he's "normal", in the sense that you usually see in other stories or even in real life that people with ailments or illnesses are geniuses and everything else doesn't disable them because they're born with a lot of talent; in this story that's not the case. Yunjae is not gifted, but he is perceptive (even though he cannot recognize emotions and feelings), he is curious, obedient, faithful and even if he does not realize it, he helps people around him with his actions, words or questions.
In the plot, more characters are introduced around Yunjae. People with life stories that anyone can identify with, somewhat trivial in a way, but surprising and very real; people with overflowing feelings who would rather wish to be like Yunjae; people who lost everything, but in a play of life at the last moment their outlook became clear for what they always wished for; also people who made bad decisions.
No matter the situation or the context in which the characters that appear in the story are developed, it is clear that there is a beyond the good and the bad. Each one carries a reality with which you can empathize, without the need to justify, the important thing is that: through the characters you see how gray is the line of our lives, it gives to think about a lot and empathy is the feeling in which those thoughts end up, at least that's how it happened to me.
Además de la historia, algo que destacó mucho para mí es que mientras leía me di cuenta de que es un buen libro para que leamos los escritores noveles. La escritura me parece increíble, sobre todo la forma en la que las descripciones son cortas, pero hechas de una manera en la que se forman las imágenes en la mente a la perfección, destacando lo más esencial a la perspectiva del narrador y lo que le hace bien a la historia.
A partir de la página 200, más o menos, fui un mar de lágrimas. La manera tan delicada y hermosa en la que es tratada la vida en este libro a través de los sentimientos es fantástica. Siento que refleja el cómo todos, sin importar nada, nos hacemos nosotros mismos paso en este mundo, frente a las adversidades y los momentos de júbilo, con o sin sentimientos, afrontamos la vida tal y como viene… y en la medida que podemos sentirla.
Besides the story, something that stood out a lot for me is that while reading I realized that this is a good book for us novice writers to read. I find the writing amazing, especially the way the descriptions are short, but done in a way that forms the images in the mind perfectly, highlighting what is most essential to the narrator's perspective and what does the story good.
From page 200 or so on, I was a sea of tears. The delicate and beautiful way in which life is treated in this book through feelings is fantastic. I feel it reflects how we all, no matter what, make our own way in this world, in the face of adversity and moments of joy, with or without feelings, we face life as it comes... and to the extent that we can feel it.
Este es uno de esos libros que recomiendo a todos, aunque agridulce de cierta forma, refleja esperanza, lucha y nos ayuda a reflexionar en cómo los sentimientos nos forjan y marcan la diferencia en nuestro día a día. Al acabar de leerlo supe que tenía un nuevo libro favorito entre mis manos.
Me parece que todos deberían leerlo alguna vez, sin dudas.

This is one of those books that I recommend to everyone, although bittersweet in a way, it reflects hope, struggle and helps us reflect on how feelings shape us and make a difference in our day to day lives. When I finished reading it I knew I had a new favorite book on my hands.
It seems to me that everyone should read it sometime, without a doubt.
