Many months ago I shared on the platform a review of this story, but in series format, many may not know that "The Bridgertons" is based on a saga of books by Julia Queen and has 8 books that tells the story of each member of an aristocratic family of the nineteenth century and their way to the altar; the truth is that after watching the two seasons on Netflix, I did not want to wait to know more of the history of the Bridgertons, so I looked for the books and that same day I started reading.
Today I will share with you my general opinion of this saga (although I didn't finish all the books) and I will try not to leave spoilers in case any of you feel like reading it.

Daphne is the fourth sister and the first daughter of the Bridgerton couple to make her debut in society, with the support of her mom her goal is to find the best suitor to ask for her hand, but despite being one of the most desired women of the season, some obstacles make no man get too close to her, until she meets her brother's best friend, the Duke of Hastings and Daphne offers a plan that will benefit them mutually: They will pretend to court each other for a while to make Daphne seem eligible again for other men and in turn, scare off the bunch of mothers desperate for the duke to marry their daughters. Nothing could go wrong: Daphne would find herself getting married by the end of the season, and the duke would keep his promise to lead a bachelor's life ... but no one had in mind that feelings for each other might come up in between, but a series of events compromises them and makes them, one way or another, have to decide whether or not to formalize their relationship.
This is a charming novel, to tell the truth, I liked the book more than the first season of the series, there are some details and certain information that are better explained. Other than that, thanks to this first book, I started to get interested in the period romance variant of books and looked for some books by other authors to add to my list.

In this novel the protagonist is Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest brother and head of the family, with 31 years old he feels it is time to find a wife and make his own life, and for this he only has two requirements: that she is beautiful and with good motherly skills to raise their future children. When Anthony meets the jewel of the season: Edwina Sheffield, he sees that she is the right woman to take to the altar, but a stone crosses his path: her older sister Kate Sheffield. This pair of characters tend to have a kind of rivalry, Kate knows that Anthony will not love her sister as she deserves and will do everything to prevent that marriage, however, Anthony will not let go of his goals and will circumvent very well the challenges imposed by Edwina's older sister.
They say that opposites attract, but Anthony and Kate have such similar personalities, that in a way they understand each other very well, since I started reading this book I knew that they should end up together, there is a lot of chemistry between them and it is inevitable that they try to deny it. Compared to the series, I liked both formats in equal parts (although the series changes many things from the book, it manages to keep the essence), there are things that in the series makes the plot more entertaining, but the book reveals things that makes you empathize more with the characters, but overall it is a very fun story.

Benedict is forced to attend a masked ball organized by one of the most sociable women in London: his mother, who is hoping that her second eldest son will finally meet the woman he will marry. Benedict usually tries to run away from the balls, but as fate would have it, he ends up dancing several pieces with a woman with whom he has an immediate connection, but before he can ask her name, she runs away from the ball as the clock strikes 12, just like in the Cinderella story. Benedict, not knowing anything about her (nor her face covered by a mask), spends years and years thinking about finding her again.
When I started reading this novel I was very excited about what would happen, thanks to the series on Netflix Benedict's character makes more acts of presence than in the first books, so I could say that of my favorite characters in this story: attractive, with a good sense of humor and love for art (don't blame me if I feel melted by him), of course, we will know more in depth about his inner world, his longings and fears, however, this story for me was predictable in many aspects, although I enjoyed it and it has a very nice denouement, I started to doubt if the rest of the books of the saga would apply the same cliché formulas.

Penelope Fethearington is Eloise Bridgerton's best friend, she is very intelligent but her shyness kept her in the shadows for many years, she is now 28 and is considered an old maid with no illusion of ever being able to marry; however, Colin Bridgerton arrives in town, Eloise's older brother and the man Penelope has been in love for years and years, the two have always had a nice friendship, but Colin has never considered her anything more than a friend... until now. A kind of complicity unites them and makes their meetings more and more often, but Penelope keeps a secret that could ruin her reputation forever and also her relationship with Colin.
This was another of the stories I was most looking forward to learning about. Colin and Penelope seem to me two extremely tender characters, Penelope has always had a very sweet aura and I like that she is an intellectual and astute woman and there is a development in her character that makes her have conviction, while Colin is afraid to make a decision about what to dedicate his life to, besides traveling and remaining single... If I put on a scale the things I liked and disliked, I think the scale would lean towards the things I didn't like. On the one hand, I really like the character development there is, but, on the other hand, this book again falls into the pit of things that are predictable and make the ending lose total excitement or intrigue. Given Penelope's secret, this story contains a bit more drama, but I didn't really like the way this fact was addressed, so the story ended up disappointing me.

I read more than half of the books, but I decided not to continue with the saga, not for now at least, I inadvertently got a spoiler of the next book and I did not like at all the direction of that story that precisely had the protagonist of another of my favorite characters in the series, so I'll leave this review until here.
As you may have noticed, it is a romance saga set in a time where one of the most important things to belong to society (especially if you are a woman) is to marry a wealthy man and start a family; although I really enjoy romance novels, there came a certain point where the stories became predictable and ended up boring me, so that was another reason why I left the rest of the books aside. The positive side of this saga is that you get attached to the characters, they all have a unique personality and once you finish a book you want to read the next one and see what life will bring for the next sibling, I like that we get to know about each one's childhood in each book and how it impacts their family dynamics.

Esta es una novela encantadora, a decir verdad, el libro me gustó más que la primera temporada de la serie, hay algunos detalles y cierta información que son mejor explicados. Fuera de eso, gracias a este primer libro, me empecé a interesar en la variante de libros románticos de época y busqué algunos libros de otros autores para añadir a mi lista.

Cuando Anthony conoce a la joya de la temporada: Edwina Sheffield, ve que es la mujer indicada para llevar al altar, pero una piedra se cruza una piedra en su camino: su hermana mayor Kate Sheffield. Este par de personajes tienden a tener una especie de rivalidad, Kate sabe que Anthony no amará a su hermana como ella se lo merece y hará todo por impedir ese casamiento, sin embargo, Anthony no dejará de lado sus objetivos y sorteará muy bien los desafíos impuestos por la hermana mayor de Edwina.
Dicen que los polos opuestos se atraen, pero Anthony y Kate tienen personalidades tan parecidas, que de cierta manera se entienden muy bien, desde que empecé a leer este libro sabía que ambos debían terminar juntos, hay mucha química entre los dos y es inevitable que intenten negarlo. En comparación con la serie, ambos formatos me gustaron en partes iguales (aunque la serie cambia muchas cosas del libro, logra mantener la esencia), hay cosas que en la serie hace que la trama se vuelva más entretenida, pero el libro revela cosas que hace que empatices más con los personajes, pero en general es una historia muy divertida.

Benedict asiste a la fuerza a un baile de máscaras organizado por una de las mujeres más sociables de Londres: su madre, quien tiene la ilusión que su segundo hijo mayor por fin conozca a la mujer con la que se casará. Benedict usualmente trata de huir de los bailes, pero por obra del destino termina bailando varias piezas con una mujer con la que genera una conexión inmediata, pero antes que pueda preguntarle su nombre, ella corre y huye del baile en tanto el reloj marca las 12, igual que en el cuento de cenicienta. Benedict, sin saber nada de ella (ni su rostro cubierto por una máscara), pasa años y años pensando en volver a encontrarla.
Cuando empecé a leer esta novela me sentía muy emocionada por lo que pasaría, gracias a la serie en Netflix el personaje de Benedict hace más actos de presencia que en los primeros libros, así que podía decir que de mis personajes favoritos de esta historia: atractivo, con buen sentido del humor y amor por el arte (no me culpen si me siento derretida por él), por supuesto, conoceremos más a fondo de su mundo interior, sus anhelos y miedos, sin embargo, esta historia para mí fue predecible en muchos aspectos, aunque la disfruté y tiene un desenlace muy bonito, empecé a poner en duda si el resto de los libros de la saga aplicaría las mismas fórmulas cliché.

Penélope Fethearington es la mejor amiga de Eloise Bridgerton, es muy inteligente pero su timidez la mantuvo en la sombra durante muchos años, ahora tiene 28 y es considerada una solterona sin ilusión de poder casarse nunca; sin embargo, llega a la ciudad Colin Bridgerton, hermano mayor de Eloise y el hombre por el que Penélope ha estado enamorada años y años, los dos siempre han tenido una linda amistad, pero Colin nunca la ha considerado algo más allá que una amiga… hasta ahora. Una especie de complicidad los une y hace que sus encuentros sean cada vez más seguidos, pero Penelope guarda un secreto que podría arruinar su reputación eternamente y también su relación con Colin.
Esta era otra de las historias que más esperaba conocer. Colin y Penélope se me hacen dos personajes sumamente tiernos, Penélope siempre ha tenido un aura muy dulce y me agrada que sea una mujer intelectual y astuta y hay un desarrollo en su personaje que la hace tener convicción, en tanto Colin, siente miedo en tomar una decisión de a qué dedicar su vida, además de viajar y seguir soltero… Si pongo en una balanza las cosas que me gustaron y disgustaron, creo que la balanza se inclinaría por las cosas que no me gustaron. Por un lado, me gusta mucho el desarrollo de personajes que hay, pero, por otro lado, este libro cae otra vez en el hoyo de las cosas predecibles y que hacen que el final pierda total emoción o intriga. Dado el secreto de Penélope, esta historia contiene un poco más de drama, pero no me gustó mucho la manera en cómo fue abordado este hecho, así que la historia me terminó desilusionando.

Leí más de la mitad de los libros, pero decidí no continuar con la saga, no por ahora al menos, sin querer me llegó un spoiler del siguiente libro y no me gustó para nada el rumbo de esa historia que precisamente contaba con el protagonismo de otro de mis personajes favoritos de la serie, así que dejaré hasta acá esta reseña.
Como pudieron notar, es una saga de romance ambientado en una época donde una de las cosas más importantes para pertenecer a la sociedad (especialmente si eres mujer) es casarte con un hombre adinerado y formar una familia; aunque yo disfrute mucho de las novelas románticas, llegó cierto punto donde las historias se volvieron predecibles y terminó por aburrirme, así que ese fue otro motivo por el que dejé de lado el resto de los libros. El lado positivo de esta saga es que te encariñas con los personajes, todos tienen una personalidad única y una vez terminas un libro quieres leer el siguiente y ver qué deparará la vida para el siguiente hermano, me gusta que podamos conocer de la infancia de cada uno en cada libro y cómo repercute en su dinámica familiar.
