One of the most famous poets in Ukraine is Taras Shevchenko. His work is being studied at school, songs are written on his poems, streets and cities are named after him. His book "Kobzar" is a collection of his poetry, poems and other works in one edition. But can we call Taras Shevchenko an author that children can read? I don't know the answer to this question yet. And the Ukrainian publishing house "Stary Lev Publishing House" published Taras Shevchenko's "Kobzar" for children.
This book was published in 2015. When I saw it, I immediately wanted to buy it for my children. But I can't say that they became fans of this edition. We studied a few poems with the children, and no more. Although my children know that they have a special, "children's" "Kobzar". It's just that the poetry there is not childish, everything is the same as in the regular edition of "Kobzar", it's just very nicely illustrated.
And the illustrator of "Child Kobzar" is Maryna Mykhailoshina. Compiled by Zirka Menzatyuk.
This book contains 20 works. These are both complete poems and excerpts from poems. For example, Taras Shevchenko has a poem "Thoughts, My Thoughts". This book contains only an excerpt from this poem of 24 lines. Perhaps it is good to introduce a child to an outstanding poet, but it seems to me that children's perception does not understand adult poetry.
However, I liked the selection of works. Here are the most important and interesting passages and poems. And beautiful illustrations complement the pages of the book, making it seem like a fairy tale. And what else do children need? Open the book and immerse yourself in the fairy tale.
I invite you to open some pages of the book with me.
Excerpt from the poem "Kateryna".
Lines from poetry that even hang on the walls of Ukrainian schools: "Study, read, and learn from others, and do not shy away from your own."
Poem "Dream"
Excerpts from the works "To Osnovyanenko" and "Night of Taras".
Content
The works of Taras Shevchenko bring the history, culture, and spirit of Ukrainians to the reader. And although the poet lived several centuries ago (1814-1861), his words are still interpreted as prophetic.
It is interesting to know if any of you have heard of Taras Shevchenko as a Ukrainian poet?
Thank you for your attention, I wish everyone the best books and exciting reading. 💗
