hi book club,
One of my goals is to read 50 books a year which I hardly ever reach, but I am trying my best to get to that goal as close as possible. Also, I don't normally just read books because I am bored or just to accomplish a certain amount, I genuinely read them to learn.
The first Books I read this year is the trilogy: MARCH, by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

These Books are a three-part graphic novel that tells the life of politician, civil rights activist, and leader John lewis. He was from rural Alabama and started his career in public speaking activities as a young boy by gathering the family's chickens in the yard and preaching to them from the bible. Later he became one of the driving forces behind the Nashville student movement, organising sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, and therefore forcing them to start serving black citizens. He also was one of the original 13 Freedom riders, a group of 7 black and 6 white students attempting to take ride interstate buses from Washington DC to new Orleans, challenging the segregation policies in the states they were crossing.
He also fought tirelessly for Black Americans' rights to be able to vote.
John Lewis got arrested over 40 times and always said he'd risk going to jail again if necessary since he only got into good trouble.
Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America. -John Lewis
I was motivated to read these books after the documentary: GOOD TROUBLE was released after his death earlier this year!
I hope this will give you some inspiration to learn more about John Lewis, one of my greatest heroes!
