Are You a Bookworm?

I grew up reading every day of my life. Truth was, I didn't fancy reading, it was a compulsory sport organized daily by my mother. "Hey Sam, You have to read your Bible now", "Hey Sam, That Novel teaches forgiveness, Go read it"... And on and on and on, I kept on reading till it became a habit. I read and consume every piece of information I saw, from billboards to newspapers, to storybooks in the hands of a friend.

It is a situation of me having to like reading because I was forced to at a young age. I didn't even notice when I started to enjoy it, I started to take books everywhere I go, I wanted to consume as many stories as I possibly could. At that point in my life, I became a bookworm. While I know my love for books has drastically reduced, it is an interesting topic as to who a bookworm is.

Are you a Bookworm?

Book worms are people who love reading. I can imagine that everyone who reads a lot has been called that at least once in their lifetime. I for one think that the term is usually thrown out "easily". Not everyone who reads enjoys reading.

Leigh Bardugo an Israel-American writer once said;

"I remember only how I fell into books, never to rise from their pages, how I was never truly awake until I began to dream of other worlds”.

Being a bibliophile means you love and collect books. It is not just a case of reading for fun, But understanding the author's mind and putting your ability to translate the words with different imaginations.

You might ask, how can I know a bookworm? The answer is pretty simple, Their day-to-day life revolves around books.

Characteristics of a Bookworm

• Their Break Time = Reading Time :

When I started getting addicted to reading all sorts of books, I was a student. I didn't have the luxury of reading for 24hrs and I got a lot of books seized by my teachers. So all I did was waited for break time or lunchtime to read my novels.

I always couldn't wait till I figured out what the next chapter was about. I was excited about every break or free time I can get in school as that translates to reading time.

So yeah, I think Bookworms are always excited about their free time.

• A Book is never far Away :

I don't think anyone should be called a bookworm if books are far away from them. Book worms always have at least one book in their luggage at all times. Books are part of their lives and they always have one to turn to at all times.

• They reference Books a lot:

Bookworms are always talking about books and referencing them to people. Sometimes these people haven't even read the book. They have this strong tendency to pitch in their favorite book and author even when the audience is lost.

• Download an E-book app but still carries a hardcopy :

Most bookworms still carry or prefer to read hardcopy books. Yes, they download reading apps however, many still read hard copy books.

This is the characteristic of a bookworm from my perspective. Some people generally believe bookworms have traits like loyalty, introverted tendencies, and all. However, I don't agree as I believe different books impact differently. You can be a bookworm and still be disloyal or still be loud in public.
