Antes de empezar a hacer esta reseña, es muy propicio darles mi felicidades por el Día del Lector, a todos los que hacen vida en esta hermosa comunidad. Es genial formar parte de un grupo tan bonito como lo es el de los que leen, los que se recrean en otros mundos a través de páginas y letras.
Now I do. I have a lot of things to say about this book. And I have to say that I read it because it was recommended on a TikTok I saw, and it always pops up over there. Although I guess it doesn't have much Hype because it's a few years old now. But good thing I found it and started reading it, because it just entered my top 5 Fantasy sagas I've read. It has been my biggest discovery this year. It is Six of Crows, a Biology that is part of the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo and I already want to finish this review to go with the next book now!
Ahora sí. Tengo muchas cosas que decir de este libro. Y debo decir que lo leí porque lo recomendaron en un TikTok que ví y siempre aparece por allí, aunque supongo que no tiene mucho Hype porque ya tiene algunos años. Pero que bueno que lo encontré y empecé a leerlo, porque acaba de entrar en mi top 5 de sagas de Fantasía que he leído. Ha sido mi mayor descubrimiento este año. Se trata de Seis de Cuervos, una Biología que forma parte del Grishaverse de Leigh Bardugo y ya quiero terminar esta reseña para ir con el siguiente libro ¡ya!
This book is the sequel to the Shadow and Bone saga, of which I have already reviewed each of the installments. This book is set a few years after the Ravka civil war, in a city called Ketterdam located on the other side of the sea. Ketterdam is a big place with a lot of vice, I feel it is inspired by Victorian London, with bars, dens, whores and a lot of vice.
We will be located in The Barrel, an area of Ketterdam run by criminal gangs and clans. The crows, who are led by Kaz Bekker, are part of the gang Los Despojos. So they all belong to something and in turn, they belong to another larger group. Kaz is one of the most ruthless and brilliant thieves in El Barril, so when a terrible drug invades the city, he is called in to do a job. He accepts and hires 5 more people to help him with the job. From then on, we have some of the best adventures I've ever read.
Este libro es la secuela de la saga Sombra y Hueso, de la que ya les hice una reseña anteriormente a cada una de las entregas. Este libro se sitúa unos años después de la guerra civil de Ravka, en un ciudad llamada Ketterdam ubicada al otro lado del mar. Ketterdam es un sitio grande y con muchos vicios, siento que está inspirada en el Londres victoriano, con bares, antros, prostitutas y mucho vicio.
Nos ubicaremos en El Barril, una zona de Ketterdam manejada por bandas criminales y clanes. Los cuervos, quiénes están liderados por Kaz Bekker, forman parte de la banda Los Despojos. Así que todos pertenecen a algo y a su vez, estos a otro grupo más grande. Kaz es uno de los ladrones más despiadados y brillantes de El Barril, así que cuando una droga terrible invade la ciudad, es llamado para que haga un trabajo. Él lo acepta y contrata a 5 personas más para que lo ayuden con el encargo. A partir de ese momento tendremos de las mejores aventuras que me he leído.
The book has as Cliché the “Found Family”, almost all the characters have points of view, but in spite of being 6 main characters, only 5 have points of view, I would love to introduce you to each of them:
El libro tiene como Cliché la “Familia encontrada”, casi todos los personajes tienen puntos de vista, pero a pesar de ser 6 personajes principales, solo 5 tienen puntos de vista, Me encantaría presentarles a cada uno de ellos:
Kaz Bekker
The leader. Dirty Hands, as he is known in the Barrel. He is 19 years old and since he was 14 years old he has not been imprisoned again, but not precisely because he has stopped stealing, but because he became excellent at it. He always wears gloves and is accompanied by a cane with a crow's head on which he leans due to a limp he has, which makes him a very eccentric character. Furthermore, he also has a very dark past that you will be dying to decipher when you finish reading the book.
El líder. Manos Sucias, como lo conocen en El Barril. Tiene 19 años y desde los 14 años no lo volvieron a encarcelar, pero no precisamente porque haya dejado de robar, sino porque se volvió excelente en eso. Siempre usa guantes y va acompañado de un bastón con cabeza de cuervo en donde se apoya por una cojera que tiene, esto lo hace un personaje bastante excéntrico. Además, guarda un pasado muy oscuro que te morirás por descifrar cuando termines de leer el libro.
Inej Ghafa
The Spectre. A Zuli who was kidnapped and enslaved in a brothel. Having high skills to go unnoticed and to get secrets, she starts to be part of the team with Kaz and the others to serve as a spider. She comes from a family of acrobats, that's why she is flexible and goes where no one else goes. She can climb everywhere and is deadly with the six daggers she hides all over her body.
El Espectro. Una Zuli que fue raptada y esclavizada en un burdel. Al tener altos dotes para pasar desapercibida y conseguir secretos, empieza a formar parte del equipo con Kaz y los demás para servir de araña. Viene de una familia de acróbatas, es por eso que es flexible y llega a donde nadie más llega. Puede trepar por todos lados y es mortal con las seis dagas que esconde por todo su cuerpo.
Nina Zenik
The Spy. She is a Grisha of Ravka, a mortifier. She can slow the heartbeat of others just by moving her hands, and yes, she can also murder them. Likewise, she left Ravka to look for other Grisha after almost all of them were annihilated. He enters The Spoils in order to get someone out of jail, he can't return to Ravka until he resolves that issue and Kaz offers him ways to do so.
La Espía. Es una Grisha de Ravka, mortificadora. Puede ralentizar los latidos de los demás solo moviendo sus manos, y sí, también puede asesinarlos. Salió de Ravka para buscar a otros Grisha luego de que fueron aniquilados casi todos. Ingresa a Los Despojos para poder sacar a alguien de la cárcel, no puede volver a Ravka hasta que resuelva ese asunto y Kaz le ofrece las maneras de hacerlo.
Jesper Fahey
The shooter. Perfect marksmanship, he doesn't like to part with his guns, they're his babies. He has a weakness for gambling, so he goes around owing everyone. He had no choice but to join the job in order to pay off his debts.
El tirador. Puntería perfecta, no le gusta separarse de sus pistolas, son sus bebés. Tiene una gran debilidad por las apuestas, así que anda por allí debiéndole a todo el mundo. No tuvo otra opción que unirse al trabajo para poder saldar sus deudas.
Mattias Helvar
Ex-convict and Ex-Drüskelle of Fjerda, they hunt the Grishas to make them pay for their crimes, (just being different). He hates the Grishas. It is paramount for the job he has to do, and he will get a very good reward for taking the job. So he joins despite his hatred of Nina, with whom he must work side by side to accomplish the mission.
Ex convicto y Ex Drüskelle de Fjerda, estos cazan a los Grishas para hacerles pagar por sus crímenes, (simplemente ser diferentes). Odia a los Grishas. Es primordial para el trabajo que debe hacer y tendrá una muy buena recompensa por aceptar el trabajo. Así que se une pese al odio que le tiene a Nina, con quien debe trabajar codo a codo para poder cumplir con la misión.
Wylan Van Eck
The explosives expert. The youngest of the group, but very knowledgeable and deadly with explosives. He is very bright. He has a big secret.
El experto en explosivos. El menor del grupo, pero con grandes conocimientos y es mortal con los explosivos. Es muy brillante. Tiene un gran secreto.
Now to what I came for. To be happy and tell you why I liked it so much. First, it's a book you can read in a day. The events happen one after the other. It is very well written, although at the beginning it did cost me a little because I didn't understand what was going on, and I didn't recognize the characters. Then, when I understand that the first chapter just shows us what is happening and introduces us to the plot. The chemistry between the characters is perfect, each one has their own personal story, which makes them very well-built characters.
Everyone's favorite is Kaz, the tough guy with a dark past, but I love Inej. The fights, the robberies, the infiltrations, everything is perfect and leaves no loose ends. Best of all, it has no filler. Although we are shown the characters and their pasts, it doesn't become incessant. Romance? Just a little, just enough for there to be some curiosity and some drive, but it's not the focal point of the story.
When I started reading Shadow and Bone, I found it very hard not to compare it to the Netflix series. I didn't understand why it had such a high score, and I understood that people love is these characters, and they had to get them into the story anyway. I already know that the next season will be just the story that we are presented in these books (and a little more).
Anyway, I recommend you, if you are lovers of the fantastic world, to read Six of Crows. It is a wonderful book. Although it is only two books, the author is creating a third book, but it will be told many years later. So I know I'll be looking forward to this third book. Thank you all for reading this far. Ahora a lo que vine. A ser feliz y hablarles de por qué me gustó tanto. Primero, es un libro que puedes leer en un día. Los acontecimientos pasan uno detrás del otro. Está muy bien escrito, aunque al principio sí que me costó un poco porque no entendía qué ocurría y no reconocía a los personajes. Luego, cuando entiendo que el primer capítulo solo nos muestra lo que está ocurriendo y nos introduce en la trama. La química entre los personajes está perfecta, cada uno tiene su historia personal, lo que los hace unos personajes muy bien construidos.
El favorito de todos es Kaz, el chico rudo con un pasado oscuro, pero a mí me encanta Inej. Las peleas, los robos, las infiltraciones, todo está perfecto y no deja cabos sueltos. Lo mejor de todo es que no tiene relleno. Aunque nos muestran a los personajes y sus pasados, no se hace algo incesante. ¿Romance? Solo un poco, lo necesario para que exista alguna curiosidad y algún impulso, pero no es el punto focal de la historia.
Cuando empecé a leer Sombra y Hueso, se me hizo muy difícil no compararlo con la serie de Netflix. No entendía por qué tenía tanta puntuación, y entendí que la gente ama es a estos personajes y tuvieron que meterlos de cualquier manera en la historia. Ya sé que la próxima temporada será justamente la historia que nos presentan en estos libros (y un poco más).
En fin, les recomiendo, si son amantes del mundo fantástico, que lean Six of Crows. Es un libro maravilloso. Aunque son solo dos libros, la autora está creando un tercer libro, pero estará relatado muchos años después. Así que sé que estaré muy pendiente de este tercer libro.
