Greetings, dear Bookworms! I am very excited to bring you the first book review of 2026. It is a well-known book that has even been adapted for film and television, and thanks to the latest Disney production, I have been inspired and motivated to start reading this famous series by author Rick Riordan. The book is The Lightning Thief, part of the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series.

¡Saludos, queridos Bookworms! Estoy muy entusiasmada por traerles la primera reseña literaria de 2026. Se trata de un libro muy conocido que incluso tiene adaptaciones audiovisuales y que, gracias a la última producción de Disney, he tenido el impulso y la motivación para empezar a leer esta conocida saga del autor Rick Riordan. Se trata de El Ladrón del Rayo, que forma parte de la saga Percy Jackson y los Olímpicos.
I had known about this series for many years; however, I had never been curious enough to start reading it because I thought it would be very childish. And although I don't feel so far removed from that thought at the moment, I don't think it's trivial to read any kind of story, without underestimating the audience it's aimed at.

Desde hace muchos años conocía de la existencia de esta saga; sin embargo, nunca me había nacido la curiosidad de empezar a leerlo porque me parecía que iba a encontrarme con algo muy infantil. Y aunque no me siento tan alejada de ese pensamiento en este momento, no me parece nada mínimo leer cualquier tipo de trama, sin menospreciar a la audiencia a la que está dirigido.
Percy is a 13-year-old teenager with adjustment problems. He has dyslexia, ADHD, suffers from bullying, and changes schools every year, which is normal for a boy his age (sarcasm). Until one day he realizes that these issues he has grown up with are tied to a secret he learns just before entering Camp Half-Blood: he is the son of a god, and not just any god, but one of the great gods of Olympus.
At Camp Half-Blood, a place where the teenage children of the gods go, he learns and practices about the whole new world that has just opened up to him. He sets out on a mission to find the thief of Zeus' lightning bolt before war breaks out between the gods. Together with Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Grover, a teenage satyr who is his best friend but also his designated guardian, they set off on an adventure that involves all the modernity of the new era. The current location of Olympus is the United States.
For purists of Greek mythology, I do not recommend this saga. I know you would find it an aberration that Mount Olympus is located in a New York skyscraper, or that Medusa cooks hamburgers in a restaurant on the side of an old highway. However, from a more relaxed point of view, I think the approach taken in writing it makes a lot of sense. That magical objects are things that are now used every day, such as a cap or a pen, that heroes travel in cars, buses, and trains instead of the ships of yesteryear.

Percy es un adolescente de 13 años con problemas de adaptación, tiene disléxica, TDAH, sufre de bullying y cambia de colegio cada año, lo normal para un chico de esa edad (es sarcasmo). Hasta que un día se da cuenta de que estos problemas con los que ha crecido están atados a un secreto que conoce justo antes de entrar en el campamento mestizo: es el hijo de un Dios, y no de cualquier Dios, uno de los grandes dioses del Olimpo.En el campamento mestizo, un lugar al que van los adolescentes hijos de los dioses, aprende y práctica acerca de todo el nuevo mundo que se le acaba de abrir, y parte en una misión para buscar al ladrón del rayo de Zeus, antes de que se desate la guerra entre los Dioses. Junto a Annabeth, hija de Atenea, y Grover, un sátiro adolescente que es su mejor amigo, pero además es el designado para ser su guardián, parten en una aventura que involucra toda la modernidad de la nueva época y la ubicación actual del Olimpo: EE. UU..
Para los puristas de la mitología griega, no les recomiendo esta saga. Sé que les parecería una aberración que el monte olimpo encuentre en un rascacielos de New York, o que Medusa cocina hamburguesas en un local a las orillas de una vieja carretera. Sin embargo, y desde un punto de vista más relajado, creo que tomó bastante sentido el enfoque con el que fue escrito. Que los objetos mágicos sean cosas que ahora se usen a diario como una gorra o un bolígrafo, que los héroes se muevan en carros, buses y trenes en vez de los barcos de antaño.
One of the things I liked most is that it's obvious that throughout the book, stories we know from Greek mythology are used as direct inspiration, including masterpieces such as The Iliad and The Odyssey. Stories and connotations that I have known throughout my life, without really knowing in depth all the madness that is the life of the great Greek gods. The wars, the loves, the deaths, the betrayals, and above all the crazy family dynamics that are the main focus of this saga.
It is a short book, with unfocused writing, quite easy to read. It is exactly what we expect from a young adult book, where the main purpose is to get young people reading. It has a golden trio (like a certain well-known saga) in which trust and familiarity develop. But I feel that there still needs to be more closeness between them and that they need to be much more united. This is what you would expect from young heroes who are going on a mission when they are only 13 years old. This will not stop me from wanting to read the next book the moment I finish writing this review.
I am grateful for all those book adaptations that always give me the push to read something new. May there always be opportunities to enjoy sagas like this one, which are already classics. Una de las cosas que más me gustó, es que es obvio que en todo el libro se utilizan como inspiración directa las historias que conocemos de la mitología griega, incluso obras maestras como La Ilíada y La Odisea. Historias y connotaciones que he conocido a lo largo de mi vida, sin realmente conocer a fondo toda la locura que es la vida de los grandes dioses griegos. Las guerras, los amores, las muertes, las traiciones, y sobre todo las locas dinámicas familiares que es el punto principal de esta saga.Es un libro corto, de escritura desenfocada, bastante sencillo de leer. Es exactamente lo que esperamos de un libro de literatura juvenil, en el que la finalidad principal es que los más jóvenes lean. Tiene un trío de oro, (como cierta saga conocida) en el que se va formando una confianza y familiaridad. Pero siento, que aún hace falta más cercanía entre ellos y que sean mucho más unidos, lo que se espera de jóvenes héroes que van a cumplir una misión cuando solo tienen 13 años. Esto no dejará de hacerme querer leerme el siguiente libro en el mismo instante en que deje de escribir esta reseña.
Le doy las gracias a todas esas adaptaciones de libros que siempre me dan el empujón para leerme algo nuevo, que nunca falten estas oportunidades para disfrutar de sagas que, como esta, ya son clásicos.
