The nicer weather marks the start of outdoor markets, flea markets, and swap meets. I was going to do a flea market table last weekend to get rid of some of my "dead pile" from winter eBay sales. Instead, I just went to see how things were going. It's still really early and the spring weather has been unseasonably cold, rainy, and unpredictable.
My cousin had a table and was selling this first-edition Star Wars book. I find a lot of first-editions at flea markets and thrift stores. As soon as I picked it up my cousin told me to take it if I wanted it. I told her I'd borrow it, and give it back to her to sell after I read it. 🤣
I've been using my Kindle for most of my reading lately. This was the first printed book I've read in a while. Considering how many first editions I keep coming by, I'm debating whether or not I want to start another book collection of just first-edition finds.
Anyway, the first night I started reading this, I shut off the bedroom light and climbed into bed, only to realize, BOOKS don't light up like a Kindle. 🤣 It took me a really long time to adopt Kindle and e-reading and now I'm completely hooked. I love reading in the dark in bed!
OK, maybe I should talk a little about this book.
Star Wars Moving Target A Princess Leia Adventure
This was the first time reading any of the Star Wars books. I do love the franchise but really wouldn't consider myself to be a Star Wars nerd. For the most part, though, I found the story easy to follow. There were a lot of characters I wasn't familiar with, but it was still easy to follow along.
This is a book series and I'm pretty sure there are two other adventures in it. One for Han Solo, and another for Luke Skywalker. This story was set between The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi. We learn that Han is still alive and encased in carbonite in Jabba the Huts Lair. So that gives us a basic time frame of what's going on.
Princess Leia Organa is on a mission to trick the Empire into following her around the galaxy as they recruit for the next big mission. They've discovered the Empire is building a new death star, and they're trying to build an armada for another attack.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A lot more than I thought I would. It was well-written and very entertaining. The book was only 231 pages long and I read it in 3 sittings. The first day, I read it about halfway through.
This book was a collaboration written by Cecil Castellucci, Jason Fry, and Phil Noto. As I said earlier, I'm not a huge Star Wars nerd, so I don't know who the normal writers are. It appears that each book in this series is written by different writers.
After reading this book, I would definitely purchase other books from the Star Wars franchise now and would definitely like to check out other books from this series.
I think the book gave Princess Leia a new dynamic. We learn a little about her growing up as a Princess in the House of Organa. She's not particularly comfortable with her role as Princess or as a leader of the resistance. We learn a little more about her relationship and feelings toward Han Solo.
I've always liked Princess Leia's character because she really was one of the first really powerful mainstream female protagonists in sci-fi. This book only builds on her badassery!
I wonder if the series will make it onto the big screen. It was certainly entertaining enough for a full-length film. I'm not sure how Star Wars fanboys felt about the series, but I really enjoyed it and would read more from this series.
If you're looking for a good read from the Star Wars franchise, this was pretty good!
