I recently discovered this book, published in 1996, written by David Foster Wallace, with the original title Infinite Jest and translated into Portuguese as Graça Infinita. In short, the book tells the story of a family in a world where the USA and Canada (plus Greenland perhaps?) have become a country called the Organization of North American Nations (O.N.A.N.).
What caught my attention most in the book plot is the existence of a film that, once you start watching it, you can't plug it off, remaining entertained until you die. This work within the work explains the book's title. The topic has resurfaced precisely because of our behavior in relation to social media and its endless timelines.

In addition to the major platforms moving in this direction – Google announced Project Genie too – other initiatives such as Dreamrunner, Pixverse, Odyssey, Wordlabs and Peerchance also offer technology that attempts to reproduce virtual, fantasy, simulated, immersive worlds, built in real time and supposedly never shutting down.
By following along on X, it's possible to find samples of videos generated using Chinese AI, such as Ling-Bot-World, Alibaba Wan and Tencent Hi-world. Given the quality of this new type of entertainment, which mixes games, RPGs, reality shows, and social networks, and is arriving at this speed, I hope reading the book will help me understand, or at least not scare me, with the idea of being entertained until the death.

Recentemente descobri este livro lançado em 1996, escrito por David Foster Wallace, com o título original Infinite Jest e traduzido para o português como Graça Infinita. Resumindo, o livro conta a história de uma família em um mundo onde EUA e Canadá (mais Groenlândia talvez?), viraram um país chamado Organization of North American Nations (O.N.A.N.), ou Organização de Nações Norte-Americanas na edição brasileira.
O que mais me chamou a atenção é a existência de um filme que quem começa a assistir não consegue largar, ficando entretido até morrer. Essa obra dentro da obra explica o nome do livro. O tema justamente voltou a tona por causa do nosso comportamento diante das redes sociais e suas timelines infinitas.
Fiquei sabendo do livro no Instagram do @felipether, pesquisando descobri um post no blog Herena Sapiens - Is AI going to create Infinite Jest? - que faz referência ao avanço da IA e dos algoritmos de captura de atenção, principalmente no TikTok.
Além das grandes plataformas avançam nesta direção - o Google anunciou o Project Genie tb - outras iniciativas como Dreamrunner, Pixverse, Odyssey, Wordlabs e Peerchance também oferecem tecnologia que tentam reproduzir mundos virtuais, de fantasia, simulados, imersivos, construídos em tempo real e que supostamente nunca desligam.
Acompanhando no X, é possível encontrar amostras de videos gerados usando IA chinesas, como a Ling-Bot-World, Alibaba Wan e Tencent Hi-world. Pela qualidade deste novo tipo de entretenimento, que mistura game, rpg, reality show e redes sociais, chegando nesta velocidade, espero que ler o livro ajude a entender, ou pelo menos não me assustar, com a ideia de ficar entretido até morrer.
